I love Garden Patch and have been shopping here for years! They always have rare finds, my favorite being Ice Cream for Bears. They were the first in the area (and still may be the only?) to stock it. Ray is always open to suggestions and will often order in products that are requested which is really great. 03/21/20 and into the Coronavirus pandemic, Ray and his great Garden Patch staff are doing all they can to keep the shelves stocked and making sure everybody finds what they need. This is a gem of a natural and "health food" store in the best of times. Now with this pandemic to deal with, it shows how wonderful they truly are. They're not the size nor hipster look of Whole Paycheck, er ah, "Foods" , which is literally just around the block, yet my wife and I always start at the Garden Patch first, then go to the Amazon Grocery store, or the local Meijer or Martins to touch up anything we missed. The Garden Patch is a natural-foods/health-food store that is worth visiting for its selection and charm. If you're used to fancy, image-conscious places like Whole Foods or even humbler, homier places like Trader Joe's, you'll be skeptical of The Garden Patch at first. Its interior design and layout seem like afterthoughts, but once you've visited a few times, you'll realize that they have a pretty large selection despite their small size. Unassuming, to put it politely, but filled with organic treasures. Pricey in all the ways you might expect, like frozen meats, but many good finds particularly in herbs and spices. They even carry DMSO (look it up) though only in liquid form. Didn't see anything fresh, so check out Saigon Market in downtown SB on Fridays for the fresh and exotic veggies and of course the Farmers'. The staff are very knowledgeable and seem to have been in the business for a while at least. Nice source for you health fix. As for friendliness, I find it is returned in proportion to how it is given. read more

We went here yesterday and LOVED it. Since I am an avid popcorn eater, the organic popcorn here is definitely cheaper than what you would find at Whole Foods. Also, I was impressed with the organic milk. The milk here contains no preservatives, hormones, GMOs, AND the cows that produce the milk are not fed GMO feed. At Meijer, however, their organic milk does not make the same claim about the feed for the cows. I will be getting my milk here from now on. Though I will only drink it sparingly, I will have it on hand for oatmeal and cereal. I am so glad I found out about this place. read more

I went to Garden Patch for the first time yesterday. What a little gem! I can't believed I've lived a few blocks away, and hadn't tried this store until now. I was particularly impressed by the customer service! It was a hot day, so Ray gave us a bottle of water on our way out, and let us pick out a free cloth bag for being First-Time customers. This is an excellent health-food store that carries a wide variety of products--many grocery items that are hard to find elsewhere, plus laundry and dish detergents, eco-friendly garbage bags, cosmetics, toiletries, herbs, bulk grains and dried legumes, books, frozen foods, essential oils, greeting cards, vitamins and supplements. Everything is reasonably-priced and the store is always clean. Previous reviews seem to question the layout and size of the store. To that I say, "Who cares?" I shop there to buy things that I need that I can't find elsewhere for decent prices. Also, concerning the friendliness of the staff, they're perfectly nice and will answer any questions that you have. I enjoy my visits there. read more

Lovely locally owned and operated health food store with a variety of natural foods, vitamins, body care products, and specialty items. Ray, the store's owner, is incredibly inviting and gracious and makes each customer feel genuinely valued. The excellent customer service alone is enough reason to shop here. You know you're not contributing your money to a giant corrupt corporation, as this is a single privately-owned local business that really cares about the community. There's an annual customer appreciation cookout that offers FREE delicious grilled burgers (veggie, organic beef, and bison) and all-natural hotdogs (and veggie dogs) along with sides and beverages. Super cute little market. Love the local meats and cheeses. Lots if gluten free, organic options as well as a great selection of sulfate free dried fruit. My personal favorite is the wide selection of ginger ales are root beers. Every time I go in I find something new and fantastic. read more

I get the worst customer service at this place. The old couple that run it are terrible. If i don't get good customer service no matter the price & variety of goods, I don't return. I gave them more than one try and I'm done. This is based on my most recent experience. I was purchasing a bottle of shampoo. They had some sales tag posted. When I went up front it was priced different so I inquired. Old man check the price and comes back and asks me where did I see the sale price because this one isn't on sale. I made a mistake and told him it probably was a different shampoo then and apologized. He made some smirk comment to the next person in line as I left out the door and laughed at me. He acted like I was trying to rob the place. Yeah for a dollar...give me a break. This is a prime example of why people use the internet to shop. Well if Whole Foods doesn't have what I need, I'll order it online. B&M businesses are losing so much to the digital world. Apparently this store doesn't recognize it. We'll see how long they last. You won't be getting my hard earned cash anymore! read more

They have a large selection of options when it comes to grains, spices, vitamins, supplements, and diet-specific needs like gluten-free, dairy-free, organic, and vegan. Their prices are better than the any of the supermarkets in the area, including Whole Foods, if you have a clean diet standard. This business that has kept its high standard for years. I have Celiac and love shopping in this store. They will order bulk flours for you, have a wonderful selection of gluten free food and will special order items if they are not on the shelves. I no longer have to drive to Shipshewana to get my GF fix! read more
