His initial greeting was proven to be genuine when I did have a question about their concentrated elderberry juice. DC Meats is a great, local butcher shop offering the best products around. We most recently stopped in to pick up some steaks for a date night in. We opted for 8oz filets which were cut to order and absolutely perfect. We couldn't resist picking up some chorizo while we were there too and it was some of the best that we have had. They also offer a nice selection of hand picked items and are helpful in tracking down additional specialty items as well. We will definitely be back soon to try the sausages that everyone raves about. They also offer BBQ to go Friday evenings so that is on our list to try too. Definitely worth the drive! read more

I used to be a huge fan of this place.. meat is top notch.. high prices.. but great quality.. so it's fair. Today however.. after a few months.. I walk up to the door and see a sign saying "no mask shaming".. and I open the door to see 25 people standing shoulder to shoulder waiting for service.. maybe 5 people have a mask on.. even the cashier has a mask.. hanging under her chin.. so I walked out.. it's very obvious that the business couldn't care less if you get sick.. as long as your money is good.. I'll never go back.. they have good meat.. but they're not the only butcher in town. read more

I would give thus place 10 stars if I could! My family requires a strict diet of absolutely no sugar, which is used as a lot of preservatives on much of the meat in stores...especially smoked meat. However, here I don't have to worry about the unnecessary added sugars and my family (especially the hubby) can enjoy being the carnivorous that we are!. A deep, genuine surprise, this place. It's in the middle of nowhere, as regards retail or population density. Lincolnway as you're leaving Mishawaka and on your way to Elkhart? Who locates there? But they have the goods, and while they are all of 10 miles from where I live, they are not far from the dog park in Mishawaka that I frequent, so I can sneak in a few more visits than I might otherwise. As a foodie, I saw the instant I entered this place that is a "serious" food operation. For example, they're an authorized retailer of Big Green Egg grills--a pricey but excellent bit of equipment, with few local retailers. Then you notice the array of meats in their frozen cases--grass-fed beef, boar, venison, rabbit, turtle, you name it. (They might have had alligator--I'm not sure.) Then in their dry goods they have excellent brands of fresh roasted coffee beans, and top-notch brands of tea like Harney & Sons. Then you see their meat cases and the array of house-smoked items (the bacon is the best I've had) and smoked pork chops and what not. They have "leaf" lard, too, a kind of lard taken specifically from the pork kidney area with a lot of special nutritional and flavor plusses. On Friday afternoons they have a party with brisket, chicken and pulled pork meals, all smoked for the occasion. The staff, too, is very attentive and kind. It's almost otherworldly to see this level of quality in a non-descript Indiana byway. read more

This was my first experience, and I'm happy I gave it a try. I came on the recommendation of a friend who is in the high class restaurant business, and it looks like he knows the good suppliers. I had a ribeye steak, watched it custom cut to my desired thickness, and paid a very reasonable price. Took it home and fired up the grill. That steak had great flavor, and was quite tender with just the right bite. I can't wait to go back and try some of the other foods they offer. Plus, their customer service is consistently above & beyond today's standards! Many years ago my late grandfather & his 5 sons owned and operated a very very similar place on the West side of SB! A lot of locals still talk about how they loved going there. I'm frequently told of how much everyone loved hearing my grandpa sing, as he prepped their orders! Our place was much like this small locally owned business. Our family made thousands of pounds of delicious polish sausage, each Easter season & throughout the year... just like DC Meats! Perhaps this store is sentimental to me bc, it takes me back to my childhood. Flavorful, tasty, didn't shrink by much and easy on my old gut afterwards. Picked up some Colby cheese while there for that perfect on the grill melted taste. We're sold. It tastes great and the way the animals are fed and raised it makes perfect sense to eat the best you can. I picked up a few other pieces of meat while there. Can't wait to try them as well. Wonderful local butcher shop selling fresh, local meats. Everything is really high-quality, from poultry to beautiful steaks and seasonal meats like lamb. But my favorite is the huge selection of brats and sausages, great for summer grilling. They have everything you can imagine, from traditional beer brats to Italian and Polish sausage, to pizza sausage and cheese-stuffed. The service is good. Fridays BBQ is pretty good, except the brisket. Its just bad. I smoke a lot of briskets and have eaten at many of the best BBQ joints in the country, this is the worst I've had in a long time. Prices are high for raw meat. From what I've seen, about $1.50 per pound higher than other meat shops in the area with equal or worse quality. With all that said, still a decent shop. Better than any supermarket around. I still go here if i dont feel like going elsewhere. read more
