Edit to review. After a little digging the other catering party scheduled during my catering party this weekend was a current worker for Garden grill (nothing wrong with that) . But seems like he got special attention since I had one waiter and they had a few. FYI There's another review from a random review the same day complaining about their table service... This is for catering. Party all came in at once waited 30 minutes for anyone to come talk to us let alone ask for drinks. 1 waiter and one helper shouldn't be waiting on a 22 person party by themselves. On top of said waiter taking care of 3 tables outside the catering party. As the host I asked for just a bread plate 3 times. I ate the appetizers on a napkin as my plate. We had to ask if bread was included like the contract said. It was good but came out 3 minutes before dinner. Not the waiters fault. I had to get up and get pepper for a guest who asked for it and waited 20 minutes. After coffee was served dessert came out 40 minutes after. The minute a person left the party after came staff was cleaning tables off with 5 people ready to be seated before the waiter tallied the bill with a mandatory 300 ish tip. at least try and staff the party with a dedicated server. It was embarrassing for us as hosts honestly. The female host kept interrupting the waiter to seat more people outside the room. There were a few jokes our waiter quit we didn't see him for so long. We even went into the kitchen to ask for our cake to be cut we didn't even want to take pictures with our baby in front of the cake we just wanted this party to end so people could go home. Also mentioned most of the party likes bud lights when we booked . They said no problem of course. 12 bud lights in they had to place them on ice since they ran out of cold ones. Nice warm bud lights for 7 dollars a beer the next 2 rounds. Waiter was so embarrassed he came out to say he had a bunch on ice but it would be a while before they were cold. Food was ok for a catering hall. Service was the worst I ever had. And we are easy easy going people. And once again waiter absolutely did his best. He can't wait on 22 people for 3 6 person tables. 40 people 1 waiter. Appetizers 5.50 a person. Skip these. They barley had food on the 4 plates they gave us. It was so small we ordered 6 pretzels for the party. They ended up being the highlight of the party. A pretzel ... was the highlight. Thanks for the memories. Also the contract says 20 percent service charge. When originally asked it wasn't clear on what that was. Randomly 3 days before the party they did mention it was the tip. Just read the contract. Also the Victorian can't hold more than 20 people adults or children. You'll be stuff In the corner with no where to escape even when they assure you there will be room. read more

Anyone go here for Easter? People with reservations- with handicapped people in tow, waited over an hour past reservations. There had to be 70 people waiting on line inside Justin Bieberto get in, and people literally couldn't move as they were wound around the bar, blocking help from moving around. Wow having actually eaten a full meal here, I seriously think this is one of the best restaurants on LI. The food was amazing, huge portions, great prices, nice service, they don't rush you at all, the decor is charming. Started off with a raspberry peach cosmo, oh yes it was very good. I had the Centre Ville chicken dijon, out of this world!!!! Loved it, I could eat it every day, everyone I was dining with enjoyed their meals as much as I did. Went for restaurant week to try something new. A few tables were occupied when we arrived so we thought that they were handling things well in regard to Covid. By the time we left every table was occupied and NOT socially distanced! The bar was packed, shoulder to shoulder, people were waiting in the entrance shoulder to shoulder as well! Went for dinner during restaurant week., while the food was good, we were truly disappointed in how they were handling COVID...whilemasks were worn, every table was full (If it was as full walking in, as walking out, we would not have stayed) .... not separated at all by 6 feet. The bar was PACKED.....and the crowd to get in was crazy....shoulder to shoulder. When I was younger and my grandma was still alive and well I used to come here often with her and my dad. Long story short is she is no longer with us and it's been awhile. So enter the Garden Grill. Recently renovated and it's even prettier than it used to be. I came here because of my best friend's bridal shower. It's always been one of her many wishes to have her shower here. As Maid of Honor I had a few duties to take care of. One thing most importantly is to make sure her glass of champagne punch or water was never empty. Lunch had 5 choices of entree and a salad. The salad was nice and fresh and the perfect amount of dressing. We both ordered Chicken Francaise and her and I both agreed we want to go back for more. The chicken was cooked perfectly and the sauce was delicious!!! The rice was also a nice accompaniment to the dish. I'll definitely be back for more. The most impeccable service I've ever encountered! Came for Sunday brunch buffet today, and at $25 bucks a head, it's a steal. Complimentary mimosa or bloody mary, coffee & tea, orange juice, and more food than you can shake a stick at. Sausage, bacon, eggs, potatoes, pancakes on the breakfast side, and pasta alla vodka, chicken, lobster ravioli, shrimp, ribs on the lunch side. And plenty more where that came from: salads, desserts, fruit, croissants and rolls, and on and on. Like I said, service was really something to talk about. Three women sat down at a table nearby and, when a few items ran out at the buffet, they told their waitress. Well, she came back when the food was ready... with plates of each item for them. The decor and ambiance was amazing as well, evoking Victorian times through the many portraits, drapes, the exquisite moulding around the room and drapes on the window. We took a poke around as we were leaving, and discovered the upstairs is decorated in a more Hollywood regency style, with lots of movie star portraits and glamourous fans hanging from the vaulted ceiling. A covered porch out back looks like a great place to grab a bite in nice weather, too. This is one of those places I drive past every day on my way to work and say I ought to try. I am super glad I did, and I'll be back to check out the dinner prix fixe, happy hour, and lunch sometime. Also... the parking lot is entirely cobblestone. How cool is that?? read more

Their outdoor dining is exactly what I was looking for--not in a parking lot, not overlooking traffic passing by but an actual "backyard," charming and relaxing! My cosmo was perfect. I had a mandarin orange salad, Mediterranean Salmon & for dessert, tres leches--delicious! The service was good enough--The place was busy and they only had 2 servers but I cannot hold that against them at this Covid-time. Came here on Saturday for a bridal shower and had a lovely time. The decor is charming and makes you feel like you're at your grandma's house (minus the doilies). The service was excellent, champagne punch was tasty, and the food was pretty good. I had the chicken francaise, but after seeing the steak with onion strings on top, regretted my choice. The steak and mashed potatoes looked delicious! My chicken cutlet was good, but not amazing...mostly because the white rice it came with was overcooked and bland. He followed us to the parking lot and started cursing at us! He also at that time told us never to come back!! Are you kidding me! We were a party of 7, ready for a nice evening out and a good meal. We've come to Garden Grill many times and the food is always good but the service has been mediocre. We still planned to return this summer to celebrate a 70th birthday and made our reservation for 11 people in advance a month. The day of, the restaurant called us to tell us that they had to cancel our reservation because the party before us needed to delay their event an hour and they could no longer accommodate us at our time. It was so disappointing and the only option they could offer was to eat inside which we would not do because of covid. The birthday was ruined as we scrambled last minute to find outdoor dining that would take a group of 11. So disappointing that a restaurant would treat people like this that we won't be returning. read more

I have been going to the Garden Grill in Smithtown for several years now and am a happy returning customer. I would say that the restaurant fits the bill for a special occasion, romantic evening or a fun filled outing. The indoors has a beautiful Victorian aesthetic to it with thoughtful touches and old photographs of the owners family. I especially love the fact that they have a beautiful room with a fireplace. Meanwhile, the outdoors does justice to the restaurant's name; it is like a garden getaway. There are hibiscus flowers and palm trees that make it fun. They even have shade sails that prevent the sun from directly beating on you. On live music days, they have a great variety of bands to listen to while having a great dining experience. The menu has an array of different food items and they often have another seasonal menu that adds new excitement for returning customers who want to have something a little different. I have had good overall service from the hostesses that greet me, to the waitstaff that serve me to the bartender that knows how to make fun mocktails for someone who is a teetotaler like myself. A special shoutout to Rob the bartender for all the magic that he does. Overall if you are looking to enjoy a dining experience that is memorable, the Garden Grill is a great choice. read more

Had dinner last night because I want to book a small event in October outside. Start with food was excellent as usual. I've been a garden grill fan for a long time, had my mom's 70th there a few years back. Always fresh and delicious. Loved the live music, it was a. Breathe fresh air in this crazy time. I forgot about covid for a few hours. Service was ok, took a while to get someone to come to our table, we had to hunt them down lol but after that it got better. Atmosphere was fun and lively. We are renting the tent for event, it was a bit out of sorts with linens half on tBles half off, I know no one was using it but could have presented better. Even if it was just empty . I was a bit nervous booking , area was a bit messy but figured they had a long weekend. Service was a bit slow , hoping catering is a little more organized. . hoping its all nice and neat when we come in October for my sons engagement. . Catering menu was good had alot of nice choices.. prices somewhat comparable to other local outdoor venues...didnt include an appetizer or salad, was a bit surprised at that. Came here for breakfast (brunch) with Santa on Sunday, 12/19 with a party of 7 people and it was truly a wonderful experience! We all loved Santa who had on a beautiful outfit and did really great with the kids. The owner made sure everyone got pictures with Santa which was greatly appreciated. The food was excellent. The first course consisted of breakfast items such as pancakes, eggs, sausage and bacon. There was a frittata which was delicious. The second course was lunch items such as pasta, rice, ravioli and even soft shell crab! The third course was dessert (cookies, cake). We were all so full by the time dessert came around. Everything was very good and exceeded my expectations. We will definitely be back here and will certainly come back for breakfast with Santa next year! read more

I was in the area on business and found this place on yelp for lunch. The exterior is attractive and inviting, it actually looks like a house. The interior decor also resembles someone's home, and could be described as elegant. The menu had a number of appetizing and creative options. I opted for the fried artichoke hearts to start, and a salmon fillet over spinach and beans with a nice sauce for the main course. My colleague had a skirt steak chimichurri dish. Everything was excellent, service was friendly and efficient. I will definitely be looking for this place again when I return to the area. read more

1st time at this restaurant. Nice outdoors set up, extremely busy, lovely entertainment. Reservations 6:15pm our 3 appetizers was served to us after 8pm. When questioning the server his reply was the kitchen is backed up. We had 3 rounds of drinks before appetizers came. (Not even a drink or dessert on the house for the inconvenience) Then dinner took almost another hour to arrive. The service was lovely and the place felt so warming and welcoming. I went with my husband and in-laws. First we sat at the bar where the bartender was super friendly and the drinks were really good. Then once we finished our drinks, we were taken to the our table on the same floor. We all agreed that we were eating backwards. So we began with desserts! The waitress was completely open to our idea and was totally up for it. So we ordered creme brûlée and apple pie. It was delicious! Then we ordered lamb, salmon, lobster and scallops. My family and I came here for Easter brunch. It was buffet style and 37$ with unlimited mimosas. You had me unlimited mimosas. I knew it was going to be a little busy due to the holiday, so that I was prepared for. WhAt I was not prepared for was the set up style of the buffet. They could have easily set it up different. The traffic flow of it was all wrong and messed up. And honestly, the food wasn't even that great or anything to rave about. Even the mimosas weren't that good. I had heard nothing but great things about this place, so I was disappointed it. Although, I would like to go again, for dinner one day and check out their menu. read more

I ordered the special Veal Chop for $40. Major disappointment. It was 1/2 the thickness of what I've come to expect at a quality restaurant and there was more fat then meat. I brought it to the waiters attention and he almost flippantly said "I'll bring it the chefs attention". Water glass were not filled until we flagged our waiter. Last night I had the opportunity to revisit the Garden Grill after not having gone for quite some time. I absolutely adore the Victorian, quaint ambience of this place. It exudes such warmrh. Over the years, I have found the food to be consistently delicious with no lapse whatsoever. Last night, we started off with delicious calamari. Our server Luis, was very attentive and on top of things. Both my husband and I ordered entrées and I was actually blown away when he asked me what kind of dressing I wanted on my salad. Most people might find this amusing however, I don't remember the last time I went out to eat where a salad with actually included with an entrée. A nice touch from yesteryear. I was also happy to see that what it wasn't iceburg lettuce which I am not a fan of. My husband ordered a wonderful seafood dish, "jewel of the sea" which was served a linguine with an abundance of fresh sautéed spinach. The sea food was delicious and fresh. My salmon was wonderfully prepared with a different spin which was very flavorful. It had cannellini beans, olives, spinach and was cooked to my liking on the rare side. The bread was fresh and delicious to accompany the meal. I have no comments on dessert because I was too full water. We will definitely be returning in the near future. read more

Had the pleasure of dining at Garden Grill last week with my boyfriend and his aunt (Susan). After a quick tour of the absolutely stunning Victorian decor on the first and second floors, we grabbed a seat at the bar with Chrissy who is wonderful! Susan is a local and said she knew we'd love Garden Grill and she was right! It did not disappoint! Besides having a fantastic time, we enjoyed an incredibly delicious dinner. To start, we had the burrata, crab cakes and the mussels. They were all very good, but the mussels are the best I've ever had. Susan was so pleased to hear, that she called Gloria over, the owner, so I can tell her myself because I said she had to know how wonderful and memorable they were! For dinner, Susan recommended I try the penne alla vodka after mentioning that I was in the mood for pasta that night. Again, another dish that was simple but blew me away. No matter how stuffed I was, I could not stop eating - that's how good it was! Highly recommend Garden Grill and hope to be back next time I'm in town! read more

So last year I wanted to take my Mom to the Garden Grill for her 80th as thats where she wanted to go. I called 3 weeks before to make a reservation and ask for a table downstairs to save my Mom from going upstairs as well as myself as it was a week before my spinal surgery and I couldn't walk or stand well for any length of time. I also called the day before to ensure that we were good on the table and time and emphasized that it was her 80th. They reassured me all was good. When we got there at our time there was no table available downstairs and they said they could seat us upstairs. i politely declined and said we'd wait for the next table downstairs. 45 min later we were still waiting - I asked the hostess if I could speak with the manager as I had worked so hard to make sure this exact thing didn't happen. He stomped over ( he is a big imposing man) and again offered the upstairs, I started to explain about the reservation, moms birthday and difficulties going upstairs. He cut me off and yelled in my face that there was nothing they could do until people left the tables. I was so shocked disgusted. My mom finally said lets take the table upstairs as she was disgusted too. It was a random room upstairs off the main that wasn't even set. We had dinner and he didn't even apologize for the wait, the reservation or his nastiness and didn't even send an 80th birthday dessert or anything off bill. We live in area and really enjoyed eating there when it opened, with the original food and owner. Sad- as the food is fair now but redone outdoors is nice in summer. We were looking forward to trying this restaurant for the first time! It started out perfectly. The bartender was awesome and the outdoor ambiance was very nice. Thought it would become our new go to place. Anyway, the food was bland and the pretzel was over cooked and came with watery cheese for dipping. The service was awful. We asked for ketchup 2X (never came) and salt and pepper 2X. Once we left, we both had sharp pains in our stomachs and the night is not going well. I visited the restaurant this past weekend. I can say it was OK. The menu look very good which made it hard to decide what to order. We ordered the asparagus prime rib tips and the artichoke appetizer. Both options were good but neither was something I would have to order again. The entree I had was the broiled seafood platter and my wife had the stuffed duck. Again both were OK, but nothing to remember.
