They came with great suggestion for plants based on where the sunlight hits my yard. & my grass is alive and healthy a year later! Tamara listened to my desires to have a path in my backyard and she created a beautiful stone & DG path for the walkway. FYI: Photo is before the grass and plants grew in. Here's a little poem about my experience working with Garden Mamas to landscape my backyard: In my yard, where weeds once reigned, Garden Mamas came and changed the game! From drab to fab, oh what a sight, A transformation from day to night. With stubborn weeds in full retreat, Now low maintenance grass under our feet. Mulch and plants, a lovely view, A gorgeous space, our yard feels new! Here we host, with joy and glee, Friends and family, all agree. We hired Garden Mamas to maintain our mature hillside garden. While we thought it a bit strange…read morethat we had a different crew out most every time, we were assured by Tamara that she had communicated what needed to be done - she was managing the crew. This method seemed to work mostly, although we had to tell the crew each visit what to do, as mostly instructions had been partially communicated. One day, she sent two new people. We told them to trim two bushes on the stairwell and to pick up the leaves, nothing else. This was also communicated to Tamara a few days prior, but like most times, the crew seemed clueless as to what to do. When they were done and had left, we discovered that they had BUTCHERED our garden - most of five++ years of growth was cut away and in a most unappealing fashion. Her crew ripped out plants that a previous crew had installed only a month prior, had trimmed four bushes that were covering an unsightly wall into lollipop shapes, completely exposing the wall, trimmed new growth off of once per season budding plants without any care for shape or aesthetics, butchered slow growing manzanita plants that may never recover, etc etc etc. We were appalled and contacted her. Tamara responded to our concerns, but would not or could not take personal or financial responsibility for making us whole. She told us that the crew she sent was inexperienced and had never worked on a personal, mature garden (only on storage facilities and office complexes), and that she did not have the $$ to replace the plants destroyed or to pay for someone else to replace the plants (as we told her that we could not work with her anymore). We thought about going to the CSLB so that we could at least recover her bond, but did the time/money calculus and finally settled on her paying for two plants to be replaced, at another landscaper's wholesale cost (approx $500). So far, it has cost us over $10000 to get the garden back to where it was, and it will take a few years for it to look as good as it did prior to November 2025. We tried to support this independent, woman-owned business; but her model of a different crew every time coupled with an inability to run her business in a fiscally responsible manner makes it impossible for us to recommend her to ANYONE

We had some ideas about what we wanted the yard to feel like and how we wanted to use it, and Terra not only helped up dial in the practical implementation, but saw things we definitely would not have and designed the space to make sure they were accounted for organically in the design and build (DRAINAGE, wow, we are blown away right now). We thought we knew what we wanted and just wanted someone to build, but Terra are experts in a way that deserves a mention. Michelle developed a incredible plan and was fantastic to talk to throughout the entire process (plant palate, landscape plan that was clear and completely transformed how we looked at the build) and Adam's team made install so easy. It felt seamless, and exceptionally deluxe to be taken care of like that (especially compared with our home renovations). Their attention to detail is outstanding - you get what you pay for. With how much time we've spent in the yard, it is incredible to watch the space grow and flourish. Thank you Terra!

As always, the crew arrived on time and the work was done exactly as promised. We met with Kevin to discuss the tasks (cleaning yard; trimming trees and shrubs; weeding and moving plants; etc.). Sometimes Kevin has had a crew of 6 or 8; this year, it was three. The work was done by Kevin's nephew John plus Juanito and Benito. All worked diligently, taking only a short lunch break. As always, they listened to our requests and accommodated our wishes. John, when appropriate, offered helpful advice about possible options; he was consistently friendly and considerate and it was a pleasure to have his help. Years ago, we had used two other companies but were not satisfied. (One even had a worker who fell fast asleep in our yard after drinking at lunch!) The finished backyard looks excellent and the quality of the construction appears high. Vanessa specifically provided excellent, white-glove service throughout the entirety of the project and was super responsive to all of our communication. We did have a number of issues arise with the crew (mainly excessive dust seeping into our house and trash being left behind on the neighbor's property line), as well as the accounting department (an accidental attempt at overcharging us), but Vanessa always did an excellent job of troubleshooting these issues and helping to guide everybody towards a resolution. She also worked diligently on our backyard design and expertly guided us through several iterations and unexpected construction issues. I highly recommend working with Vanessa and Black Diamond Pavers.

5 stars (would give 10 if I could!)…read more I can't say enough good things about Octavio and his team! They completely transformed my front yard and I smile every time I pull into the driveway. They laid brand new sod and redid all the sprinkler piping. They also set up a drip system for all the plants around the yard, so everything gets taken care of. On top of that, they set me up with a sprinkler system I can control from my phone, which has been awesome. They also poured some cement for me, and even put rebar in it. Not just a quick pour, but done the right way. The quality of Octavio's work is truly elite. Every detail was done right, from the clean edges to how everything was laid out, and you can see the craftsmanship everywhere you look. This team can really do it all. I got quotes from other landscaping companies that couldn't handle everything I needed, but Octavio and his crew are a true one-stop shop. And for the quality of work, his price was more than fair. Honestly, the way Octavio works with you along the way is one of the best parts. He kept me in the loop every single day, so I always knew what was done and what was coming next. His team showed up on time every day and finished right on schedule. Any time I had a question or wanted something tweaked, he took care of it with a smile, no questions asked. When I changed some of the scope partway through, he worked with me and we came to a fair deal. I've dealt with landscapers in the past who wouldn't budge at all, so this meant a lot. I let him run with the design, and I'm so glad I did. He has an amazing eye, and the yard came out way better than anything I would have pictured. He also stands behind his work 100%. A few weeks after they finished, I noticed one piece of sod starting to yellow. I sent him a picture and he was out the very next day to check it, and looked at another small spot I had questions about while he was there. Two days later he came back, replaced the sod, and fixed the other area too, all at no charge. Octavio guarantees his work, plain and simple. That kind of service is hard to find these days. His crew was super friendly, respectful, and professional, and they cleaned up after themselves every single day. My neighbors never had to deal with a mess. You can really tell Octavio cares about his customers and takes pride in what he does. Octavio is my landscaper for life. If you're thinking about hiring him, don't hesitate. You won't regret it!

Such was the situation we inherited when we moved into our house. As we were four years into our drought, we stopped watering entirely - and then watched, helpless, as everything began to wither. It was not withering prettily. We knew we wanted yards that wouldn't be such an obvious affront to our California climate, but didn't have the foggiest idea what could be salvaged if we cut back to a more sustainable watering pace, or how we might transform things to be a little less English Country Cute and a little more Oakland Modern. We found Sonia because we learned she had designed no fewer than three gardens in our neighborhood that we simply loved, and we couldn't be happier with her work. After one consultation with her, we had a good sense of what we wanted to keep and what we wanted to let go, and asked her to go forward with plans for the front yard. She delivered exactly what we were envisioning - a reworking of the space that broke us away from the existing box-like layout to an organic, flowing space that integrated planter boxes, wild grasses, native flowers, and even a bit of drought-tolerant lawn grass... and kept our budget in mind as well. It has been an absolute pleasure working with her, and she has our highest recommendation.

Along the way, she introduced us to a bunch of plants I love that I would have never known about, and was great at incorporating our tweaks and ideas as we finalized everything. Redesigning a yard can feel overwhelming (so many decisions!), but Sonia made it easy, and I'm over the moon about the way our yard turned out.
