I had to remotely select and order a sympathy gift for someone in their local area, and have limited knowledge of houseplants, their meaning, etc. They walked through several expert recommendations with me from prayer plants to prosperity plants, helped me select a pot fitting the occasion and recipient's aesthetic. They also proactively offered to plant it for me, and deliver it to their door directly vs shipping or using a service. They asked if I had a letter to send them include, that they could design into a card to include with the order. They really went above and beyond and took any and all stress out of the process, while my mind was a million other places given the situation. Thank you Ruby Flora, for making this process so much easier on me and for delivering a quality sympathy gift on very short notice. It's clear you really care about your customers, in addition to being the area experts on houseplants.

We buy our plants, soil, hummus additive and mulch there. I also got peony rings for $6, which made all the difference. My peonies are very high and look great this year. In the fall, we buy our daffodil and tulip bulbs there. They line the path at my house and look great. We also bought some established plants as well. You know if you have any questions, you're in the right hands. Their experts are far superior to anyone you'd find at Lowe's, Home Depot and other garden centers. They take their time with you and take you around to show you what's needed. I love that personal attention. We also get our bird seed there. It's a great deal and the birds and deer love it.

My daughter's wedding was on October 28th. We were hunting live mums for decorating. We called MULTIPLE local nurseries. No one was willing to help, commenting that we could purchase what was left at the end of the season. As I continued down my list, I called best feeds on Wildwood. I had great experiences there before. I was shocked when the gentleman that answered the phone said to stop in and that they could certainly do something for me!!! He introduced me to two female staff members who were experts in matching colors, mums that bloomed later in the season, and sizes that I would need for each space. They also taught us how to make the blooms open at just the right time. The day of pick up they were all organized on a rack and ready to go. Can't say enough about the plant knowledge that the staff possesses. I really won't shop anywhere else for my plant needs moving forward. Can't say enough about how much it made her wedding day and the complements we received about our outside decorations. Cathy B

I love a locally owned lawn and garden center so after driving past Jim Jenkins several times, I figured it was time to stop in. The location/parking lot can be tricky to get into and out of because Painters Run is a busy road, but there was a police officer there stopping traffic so that customers could get in or out. This place is slightly deceiving from the road. I thought it was just a small little garden shop and wasn't sure if I'd find the clay pots I was looking for. Holy cannoli was I wrong. This is the Energizer Bunny of lawn and garden stores. It just kept going and going and going and going. I found the clay pots and a whole lot more that I didn't have space (or budget) for. The prices are fairly reasonable, the pots I was looking for were $2.99 and the saucer was $1.99. I also found a decorative one that's rather unique compared to what you'd find at one of those "big box" stores for a mere $6.99. I thought I was done shopping until I saw the huge selection of pre-sprouted veggies and herbs. I poked around there for a good bit before reminding myself that I'd just be feeding the infamous deer of Mt. Lebanon and not myself if I purchased any. On my way to the cashier, I stopped to check out their variety of succulents that were potted in adorable little planters... realizing that the aforementioned deer would not eat these, I grabbed one for my patio and silently told myself that my work here was done. The total for my four items was $24 which I didn't think was bad at all. I love shopping local and this place is just awesome. They also have plenty of items that would be great for gift-giving.

Also bought topsoil at the same time, and it is even worse - full of sand, dust, and mostly clay.

We picked out a large Japanese Maple for $499 plus the same for installing and 2 other plants we would plant ourselves. After waiting for a few weeks with no communication, we went back to find out about planting. We saw the tree we had put our name on was gone. The other 2 were still there. We were going on vacation at the end of May (tree still not delivered) and called and told them to wait until we get back now. Called when we got back to schedule and mentioned we didn't see our tree when we were there. I'm assuming they sold it to someone else. He showed a pic on the phone of another tree he could plant. He said it was the same. We said ok and they came the next morning. The tree they brought was at least 2-3 feet shorter than the one we picked. The root ball was about 1/3 of the one we picked. After talking to the owner and him arguing about the tree, he offered $100 off the price. I was just so pissed off, I just had them plant the new tree just to stop dealing with them. We got this tree to shield our pool from the 2 houses next door that were for sale since we weren't sure how nice they would be. It will be a few f*****g years till it grows to a decent height.

Buy 5 yards of mulch and/or mushroom manure and they deliver for free. They do not seem to sell "Bonnie", which in my opinion is great since Bonnie is everywhere and some of their practices are controversial. Their mulch is premium mulch, though it does seem to have its share of duckgrass. One year we used it, and we got sorghum growing in the yard. We bought a number of roses from them. Many of the "drift" brand varieties have done well. Some of the Ingrid Bergman roses got Rose rosette disease. It's not clear if they came from here or from another location, though, so I am not 100% sure, but I'm pretty sure I got it from here, but maybe not  It's a horrible disease. This year, we got some swiss chard to transplant and it was infested with leafborers, which also infected my beets. Now that I know what it looks like I'll actively avoid it. I have heard it can happen when the seasons are cold/wet spring and then hot early, which we had this year. In the end it is a business and they are in business because they sell you things. You really shouldn't transplant squash, melon, cucumber, but they do sell them for transplanting. It's better to stick to seeds with these and sow starting end of May to July. The place is cleared out of vegetables (and other annuals) by mid June. They could have a second round but I guess they want to keep that simple. Perhaps the number of customers doesn't allow it.
