I've recently moved to the area from the west coast and was nervous about finding my chiropractic home in the area. It's not easy to trust just anyone with your spinal health. I was lucky to find Gard Wellness along my extensive search journey. I ultimately decided to give them a try because of the health care philosophy posted on their website. Their office is clean and bright and has very cheery and healthful energy. Dr. Lance Gard has only adjusted me 3 or 4 times and I already feel a marked difference in my pain level, range of motion and quality of sleep. All of the staff is friendly. The Sr. Intake coordinator, Siara is especially warm and delightful. I intend to continue my plan of care with them for a while. read more

I can truly say I feel amazing today. My back was hurting this AM and I went to Gard Wellness for a treatment. The staff listened to my concerns and had me do a hydrotherapy massage treatment for 15 minutes, which was so relaxing, and then Dr. Gard adjusted me. I felt so much better! I was able to continue a heavy schedule when I got home and I still feel no pain and have good ROM at this writing. Thank you to the staff and the Gard's for giving such patient centered care to me. Gard Wellness Center is in Cary. I only go to Cary for three reasons: 1) La Farm (duh!), 2) to see my sleep doctor, and 3) to get my adjustment by Dr. Christian at Gard Wellness. I feel like a new person after each appointment. They've helped alleviate lingering shoulder pain from an injury 15 years ago and has helped tremendously with my back and hip. Gard Wellness Center is impressively prompt and responsive. The staff is always cheery and professional and quickly handles any request you throw their way. I appreciate not having to worry about needing to move an appointment or complete paperwork. Dr. Christian clearly strives to remember each patient (though he adjusts what must be dozens every day) and is easy to work with. Overall, the experience is a pleasant one. Two concerns: 1) It can be a bit chaotic at times. Dr. Christian often books it from room to room trying to adjust all of the patients dropped on him at once. Perhaps schedule a second adjuster during busier periods? 2) (admittedly this is a more general complaint) Chiropractic work isn't the magical elixir that much of the staff at Gard sells it as. Yes, it helps. Probably helps some more than others. But the vague benefits of chiropractic work like "more energy" and "alertness" pad the pitch to get you committed to a treatment plan. Much of the actual "treatment" boils down to stretches and diet, two things you can find for free on the internet. I trust Dr. Christian and team, but I'd bring a healthy skepticism to this, as well as other more "alternative" medicines. read more

I wish I would have read Ashley's review before buying the Living Social voucher for a massage. It wasn't pleasant listening to the chiropractor talk to patients while I was having a massage. I had just drifted off into happyland and the talking started. There is only a curtain in the massage room and it is in the front of the office, so sound travels big time. My massage on the other hand was by Mechelle and was wonderful. She really concentrated on my back and neck and I feel like a new woman. Would I return? No. Did I have an excellent massage? Worst experience I have ever had in a Doctor's office. If I could give them zero stars, I would. When they pulled me into a room for a 1/2 hour long sales pitch trying to get me to pay upfront for more than $1K worth of sessions (after insurance), I should have known something was WRONG! Thankfully, I refused to give them any more money than paying session-by-session. WHEW!!! From my experience, these people are all about the money and the hard sells than about treating the patients. They book so many simultaneous appointments that wait times for each of my subsequent 3 visits were at least 1/2 hour. The doctor doesn't sit and talk with you about what's hurting that day. Instead, you wait forever, lay on a table, are "treated" and are out without much communications at all. On my last visit, I walked into the Gard Wellness Center with moderate pain in my arm and neck. And, I left Gard Wellness Center with extreme pain in my arm and neck. Plus, a headache. When I tried to tell the doctor that I was in a lot of pain, he told me to do stretches and dismissed me. He did NOT re-evaluate what was wrong. And he didn't try to figure out what happened. He gave no instructions about applying ice. He didn't even rub any biofreeze onto my body. And this was after I stated that I WAS IN PAIN!!! Instead, he dismissed me and went to the next person in queue. After all, with one chiropractor and at least 5 people waiting in a really long line, there's not time to assess the problem. Later that afternoon, as I sat in extreme pain (more than I had experienced at any time since the onset of the issue that brought me to the chiropractor in the first place) I did some research and found another chiropractor who has treated lots of athletes in the area. Thankfully, when I called and explained to them how much pain I was in, they were able to squeeze me in. And make me feel better pretty quickly. I'm going to him from now on (review to follow) and not to these people at Gard. From my experience, Gard has a "fast food style" chiropractic office rather than a practice that spends time talking to patients, evaluating their concerns and then treating them. I have been a patient of Gard Wellness Center for over a year now. Dr. Lance always makes me feel like a million bucks and Justin is a too notch massage therapist! I recently began working with Dr. Aliya on my nutrition and I feel so much better. I was sluggish with very little energy before I started her Functional Nutrition program. I love Gard Wellness! They came to my office for a health function and provided 5 min massages. I always had neck and lower back problems but didn't really think anything of it (just being young problems :D) but my mom has osteoporosis of the neck and some other problems, so i thought why not check out the free consultation. Turns out I had a lot of issues with my neck and back and at first I wasn't sure if I should follow through but thankfully with a combination of my insurance and care credit I was able to afford it. It's been almost 2 months now and I feel great. Dr. Christian always remembers my name which is crazy because he always see's a bazillion people everyday and Jennifer is so nice! The staff is very friendly and kind. They make sure that you're well educated before they treat you and go over everything twice. There is no confusion. My expectation for any health facility is for patient safety to be held as top priority. I was a regular patient at Gard until they suddenly and without warning, discontinued basic, bare minimum covid safety procedures (namely masks) for all staff and patients. I felt blindsided by the lack of regard for patients with heightened concern, or immune compromised people close to them. Once again, I was completely unaware of the change until I walked into the office and found out first hand. I have lost faith in their ability to provide a safe environment for patients and highly recommend an office that puts patient safety over selfish beliefs. read more

I have been seeing Dr Lance and Dr Aliya for over a year now. I came to them with daily headaches that I could not shake. Within two visits, my headaches had subsided and as I continued to visit I felt better and better. I continued to go to them due to the intensively amazing care I received. They set me up on a plan that helped me rid my headaches for good (they have not come back at all!), helped me get back into alignment and made me feel better overall. I am an avid runner and triathlete and I found that the benefits of their chiropractic care, greatly improved my running ability, speed, agility and performance. While training for a marathon in the fall, I injured my IT band due to the sheer amount of running I was doing. Not one single doctor, PT, Sports Massage Therapist, etc could help me, but Aliya and Lance took their time coming up with a plan to get me better. IT Bands are STUBBORN, and my knees were in pain. Aliya performed acupuncture on and around my knees and I am now running again, pain FREE. Gard Wellness Center is like no other wellness center or chiropractic care center I have been to. Their motivation to help you as an individual, their care and concern and their dedication to their patients sets them apart. Every employee in their office treats me with the utmost respect and care and I know that going to them, I am going to receive the best service. I started coming here probably 10 years ago. Dr. Aliya was amazing, then so was Dr. Christian, and so was the young guy who wasn't there very long (I wish I could think of his name, he was great!) But Dr. Aliya doesn't seem to do Chiropractic services anymore, and the other great doctors have left. The Quality of Care is almost non-existent now. Even though they only spend a few minutes with me per visit ($40 visit I might add!) the Chiropractors were sincerely concerned with my issues and sent me home with great advice that I still use today. But since they have left, its just 1 or 2 minutes with Dr. Lance and you're out the door. Not sure what is going on there, but I think I could get more warm and caring treatment from a stranger. I was truly a dedicated patient for many years, but I'm eager to move on to better care now. I hope they can get some good Chiropractors back in the office, and I wish them well. read more

I had never been to a chiropractor before trying out Gard last year. I have had lower back pain for many years and traditional doctors gave me muscle relaxers which did not take away the pain. My boyfriend and I had purchased a Living Social deal, and each got a massage with Alex today. She was excellent, and modified her technique based on each of our individual needs and desires. The massage itself was worth 5 stars. One star off for the layout of the center. The massage room was simply a curtained off corner of the office, and throughout the entire service I could hear the chiropractor talking to multiple patients about everything from back pain to dating websites. I personally didn't find this to be such a big deal, but I typically associate a "massage" with a quiet, relaxing experience. This would not stop me from going back, though. I highly recommend Alex if you are looking for a massage to relieve physical AND mental tension. read more

I've been going to Gard Wellness for a long time now. I initially went for neck and lower back pain, which went away shortly after I started getting adjusted. Eventually, they weaned me down to one adjustment per month (maintenance). I have to say, I've never been healthier in my life. Since I started with them, I stopped having sinus infections and haven't had a serious illness. They offer a lot of good suggestions from eating better to stretching properly! The only thing that could be better, and I won't hold this against their star count, is the massage/acupuncture room, which as others have mentioned is only curtained off. You can hear a lot of conversations that, while often amusing, isn't the best for meditative states. But that doesn't stop me from going and the staff is awesome!! I've been going to Gard Chiropractic for about 2 months now and the overall improvement in my pain/discomfort level is quite dramatic. I should say I've been going to chiropractors on and off for years after herniating a disk in my neck years ago. All the chiropractors helped. The difference with Gard is their methods. They make adjustments in a more gentle way that is just as effective as the older methods. They also seem to have good instincts about where to find the pain points. They take the time each visit to see where my problem spots are that day. No visit is rushed. When I first came, I had serious pain in my neck, upper back and lower back. My muscles were very stiff and my mood was sour. I was not motivated to work out, which led to weight gain and more pressure on my neck and back. Two months later I am dramatically better. My pain is mostly gone now, but very mild otherwise. My muscles are softer and my mood is 100% improved. I am also getting regular exercise, which is enjoyable now that I am not in pain. These are the best chiropractors I've had and I will continue to come here. Also, the staff is lovely. read more

I was originally writing a very negative review but alas, I have elected to strive for a "clinically" objective review. Nevertheless, I am sure it will be viewed as a "hatchet job" by the staff. My first impression was aligned with many of the other reviews. Working professionally amongst sales professionals, I am very tuned into to a sales environment. And, this had all the hallmarks (see other reviews for elaboration). However, in my desperation and natural tendency to trust and keep an open mind, I committed to the long-term program. Despite repeated visits, there was no regression of my condition.. This is not the part that motivated me to write this review since I understand that not all patients respond to all treatments. That's just the way it works. Hence, the concept and practice of precision medicine. So, my lack of response was not something I blamed Gard for. I understood and repeatedly offered the suggestion that, "surely you have encountered some people that just don't respond. However, it was extremely upsetting to me to witness the reluctance to admit that this was a possibility, instead, I was repeatedly encouraged to just keep going, and that he was confident 'we'd get there". Knowing my body (feeling that, if anything, I was receiving damage, not healing) and being especially tuned in to over-selling, I terminated the agreement half way through the sessions. I had to sign a document that, by terminating prematurely, I would incur a penalty and was acknowledging that, by terminating treatment, I was confining myself to further damage. Well alas, I have real damage. Will we ever know if the additional damage would have been averted by the additional 5 minute "adjustments? In fact, I imagine that these providers will assert that my present condition is a result of leaving their skilled and caring hands. However, I was convinced that my problem was more dramatic than their treatments could address and I think objective evidence (imaging, traditional orthopedists) supports this case. I appreciate that some people may benefit tremendously from the care provided by this practice. I just caution individuals to trust your instincts. If I had, I would had left after the first aggressive sales pitch and consequently, saved a lot of money, time, pain and received an accurate and actionable diagnosis far sooner. I don't even want to give 1 star but I have to so that I can write this review... Terrible customer service. My boyfriend purchased a Living Social massage deal for me for an hour massage at Gard "Wellness" Center [wellness in quotations since I feel they do not care at all about the wellness of their patients, despite that being the name of the business] as a graduation present. I was really looking forward to it as I LOVE massages and don't go too often because they are pricy, and well, I was (up until a month ago) a college student. My appointment was for 10 a.m. this morning (Monday morning) and they are closed on Saturday and Sunday. Over the weekend I came down with a pretty bad cold: sore throat, head ache, runny nose, feeling achy, etc. It started on Saturday and I was really feeling quite bad all day Sunday. Despite a 24-hour cancellation policy, I knew they were closed on Sunday so I decided to just play it out to see if I got better as the day went on...when I didn't, I knew it was not a good idea to get a massage when one is sick because I have read before [in fact it was through my university, FAQ #6 here: http://recreation.ncsu.edu/fitness/massage/faq] that getting a massage when you are sick can actually make you feel worse. Unsure how best to get in touch with a business to cancel an appointment when they are closed, I discovered around 9:30pm or so on Sunday evening that I could email the business, which I did to explain my situation. In the email, I told them I would call promptly at 9am on Monday morning when they open to see what could be done. Lo and behold when I called on Monday morning at 9:04 a.m. (I figured I was being kind by giving them a few minutes to get themselves settled since they open at 9) I explained the situation to the receptionist. She told me that she is sorry I am sick but unfortunately there is a strict 24 hour cancellation policy and my voucher would no longer be valid to make another appointment. I was a little taken aback as I was SURE they would understand it was in no one's best interest -- the massage therapist, their other patients, herself, or mine -- to have a sick person come into their office for a massage. Still, I was not yet defeated. I tried to let her know I understand there is a 24 hour policy but that they are not open on Sunday so it was impossible for me to get in touch with them. Friday at 1pm would have been the latest I could have spoken with someone to cancel, and obviously I was not yet sick on Friday so how was I to have foreseen I should have cancelled then? Simple answer: I wasn't. She continued to keep saying there is a strict 24 hour cancellation policy and that she cannot reschedule me. I then told her I emailed yesterday about this, which she replied, "Oh well if you emailed yesterday that is fine. We just opened at 9 so I didn't get a chance to check the emails yet." Relieved, I rescheduled my appointment for the following Monday and crawled back into bed. When I heard my phone ringing about 15 minutes later, I realized it was Gard "Wellness" Center calling me back to let me know I had only emailed 11 hours before my appointment and not 24 hours before so I could NOT actually have that appointment for the following Monday. You've got to be kidding me. Flabbergasted, I asked her, "What does it matter if I emailed 24 or 11 hours before...? You wouldn't have gotten either email until 9:20 a.m. on the day of my appointment." Again she told me "strict 24 hour cancellation policy [blah] [blah] [blah]." Angrily I said "FINE. I will see you at 10 a.m. I hope I don't get your other patients sick!!" All she said was "okay", and I raced around the house to get a bag together of advil, cold medicine, my water bottle, and tissues. I knew I shouldn't be going with the way I was feeling, but now I was just going out of spite. I raced to get there and made it into the office at 10 a.m. on the dot. You can imagine how awkward it was to have to talk to this lady upon arriving. "Hi! Are you Caitlin?" "[mumbles] Yes." "Okay Great! Here is some paperwork for you to fill out. Oh and I asked the doctor and she said it is actually better to get a massage when you are sick so you can get all of the toxins out...so what you read was wrong." "[mumbles] Okay." I begrudgingly filled out the paperwork and the massage therapist came to get me. She asked, "How are you?" and in a pathetic voice I replied, "I've been better. I'm not feeling too well." She looked concerned. I proceeded to describe the symptoms I had and she looked at me very sympathetically and said, "I think it is probably best if you didn't get a massage." At this point, I lost it -- not at her because she was very kind -- I started sobbing, saying "I tried telling her [pointing my head towards the receptionist] that on the phone but she told me I was going to lose my voucher if I didn't show up, and this was a gift from my boyfriend, and I just drove 35 minutes to get here. I just recently switched to Gard Wellness Center from another chiropractic office in town. The office I had been using became too large and impersonal. Both Lance and Aliyah seem committed to their practice and patients showing great compassion and professionalism in a friendly environment. Sarah (front office) was very personable and attentive to any requests I have made while Alex was very patient during her initial evaluation of my situation...taking great notes and remaining attentive to everything I talked about (regrettably the history of my back is not a short story). I was tremendously impressed recently that they stayed after hours (late on a Friday) treating me and trying to provide me some relief before the weekend. I would recommend their practice without hesitation both for their professional ability and the fact that they are great people as well. read more

Osteoarthritis in my knees and back were causing me pain and diminishing my quality of life. After 4 weeks of my treatment plan I am walking and sleeping better than I have in months. I went here after someone recommended Gard Wellness. While the acupuncture treatment done by Dr. Aliya Gard was pleasant while I was there, she was very nice and the building nice, once I left I began to feel a sharp pain in my leg, only to discover a needle she'd forgotten to remove jammed an inch into my calf. I pulled it out and nearly fainted. I had driven away in my car and tried walking, just thinking I was having some kind of nerve pain. This is not only dangerous but worrisome. Also strange that right before I left Dr. Aliya Gard said she would "double check" me as she had once left a needle in a man's head. I guess I should have checked myself over more closely as well! They should count their needles. I called the office, and cancelled my follow-up appointment and told the front desk what happened. I figured someone from the office would call me back and check to see if I was ok, or, I don't know, apologize for something so awful. But it's been all day and no one has.
