This trail near Route 12 runs through beautiful woodlands that feel airy and not closed in. Due to knee issues I didn't make it all the way to the top, but enjoyed the trek. For those in better shape it connects with other trails including to Mount Monadnock.
Driving up I could see a rain cloud to the west of Monadnock and it appears as with the Cascades that the tall mountain traps some moisture from moving east. We felt raindrops several times although it was a sunny day, and the area was not drought stricken like much of the land to the south. Lichens, bright fluorescent mushrooms, and mosses were all flourishing.
The portable toilet is well maintained and did not smell at all.
If logging upsets you, beware some is being done on adjacent private land and is visible. read more
