Try the ties before buying them!…read more We needed a suit for a high school event in 2 weeks. They told us they were very busy, so if we needed it in 2 weeks, all they could do for alterations was hem the pants. We found a jacket we liked, and the pants were either a bit tight (he could sit and bend in them) or too big. I thought that since all the could do was hem, a bit tight was better. The lady raised her voice at me and said that if I bought the smaller pants I was going to be responsible because they do not fit right. I reminded her that she said all they could do was hem. She said, "well, clearly that is not going to be enough and we'll have to do more", but in a tone that was not helpful or pleasant but condescending and rude. They adjusted the pants all around, and proceeded to hem them too short. Because they are short they catch inside the shoe and look crooked. They charged me to alter the jacket too, though frankly it looks the same to me than when we tried it. He tried on a shirt that the sales lady selected fir him. It was huge, so we asked for another one. She found another one and assured us that it would fit perfectly and we did not need to try it because to fold a shirt back into its original package takes a long time. Like it was us that selected the size and caused her to have a shirt that needed to be folded. The tie we bought was very short and it did not occur to me that I had to make him try on the tie before buying it. Because it was so short I had to put a safety pin in the back so the back wouldn't come out from under the top. And no, this is not a very tall kid -a normal tie should have been enough. Last, the amount of spam they emailed me the first week prompted me to get off their list. Why would a chain like this think we want to hear from them 3 or 4 times a week? It's a shame because the suits are nice for the price.

I ordered a suit to be tailored for an upcoming wedding. I was assured it would be ready on time…read more I received a notice the day before the wedding that the suit was in. I drove 30 min to pick it up and was told my suit was still in Iowa. So I did not have it in time for my event. In addition, my service to get fitted for the suit was terrible. There were two people working, but one of them was ignoring customers and just straightening shelves. The person who was helping me began helping another customer while I was trying things on and then abandoned me for 15 minutes until they decided to get the other worker to help out. All of this while two other customers waited to be helped. I will never shop here again.

I visited this store over Memorial Day weekend to take advantage of their sale on dresses, which…read morewas 40% off. I wanted to buy nicer dresses to wear to work when the weather is warmer. I like the quality of Banana Republic's dresses and find them versatile enough to wear to the office and then to a night out. Unfortunately, I found that the customer service at this store was severely lacking. I don't even believe anyone greeted me when I stepped foot into the store. And, it wasn't as if the place was crowded with hoards of shoppers either. The sales associate seemed too busy straightening up the displays than to greet me and tell me about any of the sales. Not good. Nevertheless, I was able to find the dresses I wanted to try on fairly quickly, though the selection of sizes for some of them wasn't the best, given the sale and it being Memorial Day weekend. Can't fault them for that. I can, however, fault them for not offering me a fitting room, since my arms were getting full with everything I wanted to try on. Again, another ding with respect to their lack of customer service. The woman working the fitting room was a bit more friendly. I asked her if they had a dress I had tried on in another size. When she returned, she told me that they didn't and that she checked online and it showed that the dress wasn't anywhere near the area either. She told me that they must have received it as a return from an online purchase or a store in Chicago. No big deal since I wasn't 100% in love with the dress. On the way out of the dressing room, I overheard an employee complaining to another one about a customer. Now, you just don't do that when you work in the retail industry, no matter how tempted you are to do it. It's not professional, and if you're going to do that, do it in the back where no one can overhear you. Imagine how awkward that would be if the customer had heard you! And, I don't know what it is - maybe it's the area, but the salespeople seemed a bit unfriendly, snooty and snobbish. It certainly doesn't help that some of the population in the Deer Park and surrounding area acts that way already. I waited in line for a little while before I could buy my items, mainly because a woman totally cut in front me, but I wasn't about ready to argue with her about it. The transactions happening in front of me seemed to last longer than normal since customers were having the sales employees call other stores or check online for whatever merchandise they wanted to buy. Some of the sales employees seemed frazzled and stressed, which is understandable, but they could have done a better job now outwardly showing it. It was kind of annoying having to wait since I had just a simple transaction - a straight purchase. Eventually, I managed to pay. I like that their process to look up your Banana Republic credit card was super easy. I just had to enter my SSN into the pin pad and show my ID to the woman ringing me up. Unfortunately, she didn't seem to understand that I wanted a dress bag for my items as opposed to having them folded and put into a shopping bag. I'm buying three damn dresses. You'd think asking for a hanging bag wouldn't be such a big deal. She goes, "Well, let me see if I have enough hangers." Um... you work in a retail store that sells clothing. How on earth could you not have enough hangers? I get it that they can't give me the wood ones that they display their merchandise on, but c'mon. You don't have three freaking hangers? *rolls eyes* *shakes head* In the end, she found some and hung up my dresses without issue. I just didn't appreciate the scrutiny over wanting them hanging as opposed to folded in a bag. Overall, not a fun trip, and I definitely will be sticking to the one at Hawthorn Mall. I think the selection is a bit better and the employees I've worked with were definitely a lot friendlier than the lot I interacted with at this location.

This store has improved greatly over time. The staff is much friendlier and more helpful. The store also seems much cleaner and more organized. I love that the fitting rooms now have buttons you can press if you need a different size. I might be a little old to be shopping at American Eagle still, but the jeans here fit me like a glove! Jeans are always super difficult for me to find, but AE stocks 00 Long! I used to have to order these online but now they have them in the store! FYI- you can check in on Four Square for an additional 15% off your purchase!

Sent the email below to customer service regarding my bad experience. Their response (also below)…read moreseemed canned and dismissive. Even if race wasn't the issue, Kam's customer service skills are reason for concern. "I entered the store, walked to the only person behind the counter (Kam) who looked up, sighed, and said other side. I walked over, waited for Kam to finish what she was doing. Kam took my jeans (in the bag they were shipped in) begin pushing buttons, inspected my receipt, and asked "do you have the visa?". I told her I didn't want to return, I wanted to exchange. Kam looked flustered and begin looking back and forth, saying nothing. I asked "are exchanges allowed?" "Am I allowed to look around?", Kam begin questioning if I wanted to exchange them for the same style (loose) and inferred that additional money made be needed as if that would turn me from exchanging or additional shopping. I told her if needed, I can pay more. After this interaction everyone one else in the store was extremely helpful and nice, I walked out with jeans that work well for me and a AE hoodie. I am a middle age black man shopping in a upscale superb area (address below), and fear that Kam treated me differently because of that. Unfortunately prejudice is not a new to me but is still inexcusable. I have friends who would benefit from your clothes (price/fit) but situations like this make it hard " AEOs response...
