This by far is the worst doctor i have ever had the DISpleasure of using in my entire 70 year life. First off, don't try calling this office, as you will be put on hold for what seemed like days, his office waiting room is a small cramped space with limited seating and you can expect at least an hour wait before seeing the doctor and then after actually getting see him you will go into another small tiny room with his desk and an old massage table next to it with book and documents piled on it. I asked him about the long wait time one visit and without batting an eye said: "if you don't like it find another doctor" no apologizes, no empathy for your concern, just take it or leave it. You will then spend your time watching the back of his head as he types and looks at the computer screen for I would say at least 90% of your entire visit. To put it bluntly, he diagnosed me with a disease that only 450 people have in the in this country that has no cure. I'm glad I got a second opinion as my new doctor has informed quite emphatically that I do not have that disease. Dr. Gao is a nightmare! read more

The worst. He is treating my husband for a neurological disorder. His office is filthy with charts and random stuff all over the place. There was more sex talk than medical talk because he was treating him for his restless legs with Miripex which enhances libido, not in a good way. My elderly husband became a sex addict which is very problematic with serious escalations and lying, as well as spending problems. Dr. Gao became very insulting to me and told me that I should take it to equalize our libidos because men are different than women. I am 82 years old and have no indication for Mirapex .We had this conversation many times. He even used the word cold. He has held up his other patients for one to two hours just bull -shitting with my husband. I was always embarrassed when I walked into the waiting room. One time at 5:00, the staff told me that they had to cancels the patients after waiting forever. read more

The facility itself is rundown and filthy. The furnishings are worn out, and the offices are cramped, cluttered, and an absolute eyesore. Since my stroke in 2019, I have continued coming here, hoping to see some improvement in the office, staff, and services--but to no avail. Just last week, after waiting in the lobby for 45 minutes, a young lady finally called my name. As I stood up she gestured me to follow her without so much as a hello. I was led into a tiny, cluttered office without even introducing herself. When I finally asked who she was, she responded with a dismissive, "I'm Nurse Joy." During our session, Dr. Gao called her cell phone, and without so much as an "excuse me," she answered and engaged in a long conversation. She argued with him about an approval, searched her computer for several minutes, then abruptly left the room--completely ignoring me. She returned 10 minutes later without a single apology. To make matters worse, when I went back to the lobby to sign out, I nearly stepped into a huge puddle of urine on the floor! It was only thanks to another patient pointing it out that I avoided the disgusting mess. That was the last straw. I canceled all my future appointments and am now searching for a new neurologist. My mom is having numbness and rosin that radiates from her neck to the tips of her right fingertips. She went in for a nerve conduction test and was told she needed Dr Gao to read the results and diva video appointment with us to go over it. We made an appointment over 4 weeks out, I have to be there with her to translate, as her English isn't that great anymore. Yes, he called us on time, we answered, and he went over what he found, it probably took about 3-4 mins, then his cell phone rang and he answered it! He leaves the video call for about another 3-4 mins, then cones back in and said "my office will call you to schedule the appointment" and hung up!!! WTH! So rude and unprofessional! If i could leave no stars i would. He cares only for money and treats his patients like we are inconveniencing him. I had a seizure and had my drivers license suspended. I was referred to a neurologist in my home town who did an EEG, saw that it was clear and in a letter to me told me he was signing off on my medical clearance. This neurologist died before he could clear me. I moved to San Diego and was referred to dock Gau. Since he was so money minded he strung my clearance out as much as he could through having me go through as many tests and appointments he could. Mind you every appointment and procedure takes 1 to 2 months to setup so i needed to wait 9+ months for him to sign off (and this still wasnt sufficient, also thats 9 months of no driving when it should have been 1 which was all the other neuro took). To demonstrate his greed. I needed him to simply add a date to my medical clearance form. Literally 10 seconds of work. He refused to sign it instead said i have to setup another appointment, again months of waiting to ensure he gets another couple hundred dollars in his pocket for a minutes work. Again, i have never been treated so bad by a doctor, his is berrating, no hello, no goodbye. While i can look past this, the inconvenience he put me through all in the name of acquiring money is sickening. Every since this jackoff power tripper FAKE tried to get me on seizure meds for NO REASON and turned my life upside down with his personal greed, well I have been diligent to be sure I was NOT having seizures or a threat to anyone because of the possible implications and danger. I was retested and evaluated by another UCSD Neurologist in La Jolla that my primary care recommended for a 2nd opinion. After extensive testing I have NO signs of ever having a seizure this guy is a fcking whack job. It very much validates my original review of him being bought out by big pharma. I wish i never was approached when in the Sharp Hospital by someone from his office setting up an appointment for me, while i was recovering from a TBI that lead to a stroke. This office is crooked, one thing is on there mind is MONEY, and if you do not go along with they say is wrong with you and take their meds the doctor say you need, then they will send a letter to the DMV making false medical statements to suspend your derivers license, like Courtney Pietsch NP-C did for me, She told the DMV agent in a letter that I told her i blacked out one day in November 00 2021, no day, (why no day ?) is because not true. I have never blacked out in my 72 years on this planet. After Dr.GAO making me take a EER in his office and told me i was fine butt he wanted to get to know me before filling out the medical form for DMV so I can get my license active. It all ready cost MED-CAL and the FED-SSI over $2000.00 that Courtney Pietsch. How much more will it cost the honest Americans for this Dr. to think he knows me, all it took was a letter from this crooked office to take my license away, i have proof that I am alight in sight of the letter to DMV. This was the first time I have backed out of a doctors care. I fortunately read reviews before my video appointment but I still decided to have my own experience. My initial appointment was on video. I am very concerned with my ailment and I believed he was listening to me. I brought up my place of employment and his interest quickly turned to that. There was a HIPA issue that came up during the visit that made me slightly uncomfortable. I agreed to some testing a couple weeks out. I could not shake my feelings about the visit and decided to ask my dr for another referral to someone else. When I did this I tried for 2 days, multiple times to call and cancel the test. I have 3 1/2 hours of hold time over two days to not talk to anyone. I finally left work early and personally went to the office to cancel. Low and behold their office staff had phones (she coincidentally was on hold w whoever she was calling) I explained I had tried to call to cancel and her response was they were not answering phone calls because their call taker was "out". The receptionists are on their cell phones and gossip loudly, the waiting room is tiny and is not suitable for someone using a wheelchair, the rooms are tiny and very messy (papers everywhere, old needles falling out of the trash can, computers left open with patient info), the dr and np are rude and treat you like you're an ignorant child, they push different pharmaceuticals on you and they charge you for parking and for cancelling ($25 all because I couldn't get a ride to their office)! We have used Dr Gao for my mother for her nerve damages and referrals for back surgeries. After today's office visit with his technician, Jim, I will never take her back there again. First I bring her in the room in a wheel chair. He says we are going to test nerves in your arms and hands and we said no, Dr Gao said right leg, that is her issue. He said we already did that leg which they did and I said well he said test right leg for muscle and nerve so he left and came back and said no its arm and hands, so we said what ever. I should have left then. We asked him to repeat since he has an accent and he repeated one word at a time like we were idiots. So he says get on the table. So he doesn't help so I help her, had to ask for lift for under her legs. I come back when she is finished and he leaves the room and says done. She sits up and I help her legs down and there is a stool he has and she put her leg down and falls to the floor, i'm trying to catch her fall and he stands there. Her leg is bent back and I finally got her hands to a chair and got her leg lifted one at a time because she can't put weight on her knee. I said don't you have anyone in here that can help. Did not ask her if she was okay, nothing.!!!! He directed us to the Doctor office for results. Doctor was not concerned with the fall. He looked at the knee and gash and said nothing. I left the room and asked nurse if we needed to fill accident report and she had to go ask "JIM" the tech and he came in and looked at me and I repeated the question. He told me to talk to Doctor and I did and he pretty much ignored me. I asked mom if she wanted to go to ER and she said no because of COV19, so I asked if she wanted to go to urgent care and how her knee was. She just wanted to get in her bed and ice it. I am so pissed. I should have called 911. They are a doctor office they should have examined her after her fall. She just had nerve block done last week and to twist her self like she did scared me. Horrible service. Checked in, was put in a little closet for vital. Brought back to room, was told the np was waiting for me (thats awesome because I was suppose to see the doctor) was put in a very run down room with 70's chairs and folding chairs, a counter that has the laminate chipped off and a very cluttered small computer desk stacked with files and personal info. The np came in asked me questions but not once did I feel he was listening to me. He ran some pointy thing down my arms and was more interested in the arm that was not the issue. He told me I have to come back for the nerve study. I was told initially this appt would be the nerve study. Waited 2 1/2 months for this less then 10 min appt to have to make another appt in 3 weeks. What a disappointment should have known when they had my paperwork for this appt months in advance and had overlooked something on it and told me I had to call my dr or reschedule they would be a problem **update**. Be very cautious with this clinic they will charge your insurance almost$500 to do what is written above and charge you an awesome co pay. Definitely a money hungry clinic that does not listen to patients and is good at making major excuses. I complained to my insurance and of course he lied and they believed him. He did admit to having a computer left open with everyone information on it but stated that it only had partial names.. lies. Not recommend for one single second. Not to anyone for any reason. My appointment was at 2 pm & I was asked to arrive 15 minutes early. I arrived at 1:40pm. I was brought back to a tiny storage closet with a desk & a scale & 2 chairs for vitals shortly after I was checked in. I asked when I could expect to be seen. I was told "soon, Doctor is a bit behind today". I was then escorted back to the dirty, crowded front waiting room. Now the front desk staff talk. A lot. & loudly. About patients, their personal lives, lunch, etc. No privacy. At 3:00 I went up to the front desk to see how much longer my wait would be & I was given the same answer. After listening to the gossip & seeing the lack of movement of any patients, at 3:40 I went back up to the front desk & asked for a refund of my co-payment. I made sure that I told staff that the wait was unacceptable & their failure to take steps to mitigate the time any patient spends in the waiting room is ridiculous. Now, I don't know about most folks, but waiting 2 hours to see ANY doctor, in my opinion, is utterly unacceptable. They knew when I checked in that the doctor was running a couple of HOURS not minutes late. They could have told me that & suggested I return in 2 hours. Heck, they could have called me & had me come in later or rescheduled for a different day to start with. My time is valuable. Additionally, There were far too many people waiting. The waiting room was full, I mean literally standing room only. Unacceptable. Doctor & staff need to get with it & do a better job of scheduling & informing patients of true wait times. They should contact patients when they're running excessively behind like this. I've wasted an entire afternoon for what? Nothing! Wow, wish I'd read these reviews before waiting all this time to "see"him! He was a referral from my primary. It was a two month wait for a phone appointment, so I took the appointment with his nurse practitioner instead for only a one month wait (he was very nice and professional). Got the MRA he referred me for then waited for follow up phone appointment with Dr. Gao. He told me the MRA was clear, asked about 3 questions that had already been asked, then said said "you said nothing has worked for you, so there's not much I can do." Typed that up, then said "I'll call you back in a couple months to see how you're doing, bye." I said "bye", then "well that was a waste of time " as I swiped up to end the call, I'm pretty sure he heard me. A couple minutes later his scheduler called to make the appointment for a couple months from now and I told her I didn't want to see him again. She just said okay, didn't sound surprised or ask why. He made no effort whatsoever to help! I told him the last time I'd seen a neurologist for my vertigo was in 2013. Surely there have been some advances made, medications created in that 8 years that we could try?! But he couldn't be bothered to even attempt to help! We were referred to him by Primary Dr. they were not knowledgeable in using Tricare system and were rude. Had to complete a 3 way call to finally get a MRI. Now they won't see him until Tricare pays them for an appointment from over Two weeks ago which was a short video appointment with Dr Goa who asked lots of none related questions for his back pain. Visited him on July 17, 2021. He has an attitude and very unprofessional. I had back surgery on September 21, 2021 by one of his colleague Dr. Soumek M Hertzel who did a botched job on my back and I had to have a second back surgery on October 28, 2021. When I was in the hospital in September, he had the nerve to come to my room two days in a row and asked me how are you doing and good by. I received a bill today for $128.27 and I am not paying it. On my first and ONLY appointment with this Dr. It took almost 2 hours!!! before I even met with the Dr. When I finally did see him I told him I had only 15 minutes left before I had to leave and get back to work. Even with this information he was off topic telling me information that I told him I already knew. He continued with telling me irrelevant information so I finally just stood up and told him that I had to leave. I then went back to the front office (the offices are in 2 separate suites) and tried to reschedule waiting room was PACKED!!). The front office was exceptionally helpful and told me that yesterday they had 3 other patients just leave due to the extremely long wait. Also they couldn't get me another appointment for 8 WEEKS ( I couldn't even get my 1st appoint for 9 weeks after I had my 1st seizure!) I have been attended for a head injury by this doctor for about a year. From the start the doctor, Dr. Gao, was unfriendly and rude. If a person can have no personality and even the personality they do have is all unfriendly and rude, this would be the guy. And the office staff! Sheesh! I never had so very, very rude and uncaring people EVER. Not EVER! I put up with him and the staff for the year but finally they have crossed the line and I will never, ever go back to them. I also have a very weak heart and I am actually in-line for a heart transplant - so you know it is really in bad shape. I have not been able to work in 2 years because of it. They just did an "EEG" test which is a test of the brain. I passed it with no problems. I am trying to get my driving license off of suspension (because of the head injury) and the doctor has ordered a more extensive EEG test. I am to stay awake all night, get to their office, put up with waiting forever to see them (like most of the others who have written about this guy, he makes everyone wait forever) and the take the EEG test and get myself back to home again. As I said, I have very (VERY)weak heart and it quits and starts on me all the time. If I don't get 10+ hours sleep every day I can't even function. So this nit-wit doctor wants me to take my life in my own hands so he can do some sort of test? And when I bring up all of this to the office staff who are attempting to schedule me for it (a surprise, the doctor who I spoke to 15 min earlier, said NOTHING) and I tell them of my weak heart and that I can't do what they are asking me to do -- I get chewed out by Miss Rude. Dr. Gao asked me why I looked unhappy. I told him I waited one hr and ten min and no one even approached me to say any thing about the wait. He said I was" pickey." I was told previously to take my blood pressure three times a day. I gave the information to the office person and it was scanned in the computer. Dr. Gao told me I would need another test (I already had an EEG done) he said to make an appointment. As I was leaving I asked him if he was going to look at the blood pressure readings!!! This Dr. cannot be trusted on medical diagnosis and he was very rude. Based only on an EEG test, he said my mother has epilepsy!!. He didn't do any other kind of examinations. It's good to know that my mother has never had any signs and symptoms of epilepsy and was sent there by her primary to be checked for headaches. Just by noticing one sharp wave on the EEG, he came to a diagnosis of epilepsy and sent a letter to DMV warning about her driving eligibility. He didn't even tell us about this until we found it from DMV. On the next visit, he rudely asked if she wanted the medication for epilepsy and when she asked if there are any side effects, his answer was, first you have to tell me if you are going to take the medicine or not and then I can tell you if there is any side effects. PLEASE take this advice and find yourself a different neurologist. This was my 3rd visit to this office but first time seeing Dr. Gao. I am in disbelief with the events from today. Let's begin with the time I waited to see the Doctor. I checked in a little after 2pm with a 2:30 appointment. I was taken in for vitals at 2:20 and was told there was 3 people ahead of me. At 3:50 I asked the receptionist how much longer. She said she could only tell me how many people were ahead of me. She said there was 2 people waiting and 1 in the office. Shocked, I answered how? If an HOUR AND A HALF ago I was told there was 3 people. She replied with she had no idea, that it was impossible for her to know how much longer it would be. I said "so it can be another hour or two??!" And With a big Ol grin on her face, she nodded yes. I didn't leave the office until 4:50pm. It took them 2 and a half hours to see me. No legit reasons were given, not even serious apologies. They have a really tiny waiting area with 9 chairs. When I arrived all seats were taken. I noticed the majority of the patients had walkers or wheelchairs. I waited outside and sat on the floor for a bit then to a nearby bench. They offer zero accommodations! Moving on to my initial impression of Gao. At first it seemed like he was addressing my concerns which I appreciated. But now I'm on twice the medication that I slowly have to increment. I asked about what an abnormal EEG meant, I feel like I didn't get a thorough explanation. I still don't know what the hell is going to happen, I got zero peace of mind or understanding of my condition. Then he made a weird ass comment about my sex life. And FARTED, he even lifted his ass for it. Didn't say my bad considering we're in a tiny room, with the door closed AND I WAS LITERALLY RIGHT BEHIND HIM. That was extremely unprofessional and straight up gross. He then started heading for the door and told me to go around. I legit had no idea we were done with the visit, I still had questions for him. I had stop him right before he went back in, which I ended up getting a half ass response. Honestly I left feeling neglected, considering I had been waiting 3 months to see him. read more

I would NEVER recommend this Dr to anyone. My husband has Alzheimer's and the treatment to him was horrible. The first appointment was a phone call with an assistant not the Doctor. He asked numerous questions and then told us our next appointment would be a phone appointment for memory test. We were called by a young girl who told my husband to repeat the words she was saying - 10 words in total. He repeated them but then she asked him to tell her some of the words and he couldn't remember any. She repeated this test 3 times! I told her this is agitating him. She then gave him a series of 3 animals and he was to tell her which one didn't fit. He was able to answer correctly 2 out of 10. She then asked him to tell her some of the animals, which he couldn't remember. I then told her this is ridiculous and when do we speak to the Dr. She told me the next phone appointment. She then said to someone that "he doesn't remember any animals". She then said the test was over. She had no compassion, no experience, no understanding of an Alzheimers patient and treated us with no respect. His white drs robe was not even white it was more tan the collar was dirty looks like his robe had not been washed for weeks. When Dr GAO talked to me he talked down to me which so unprofessional if a dr to do. When I would go in to my drs appointment I would never be called in until maybe 1 hr after my appointment. The most I had waited was 3 hours and no one ever apologized for the long wait. I also had a Botox appointment and I never saw dr Gao put gloves or sanitized his hands he never used all of the Botox liquid and put on my forehead a cold compression (had a funny smell) that probably other patients have used. Which was very unsanitary not only that but the patient rooms were full of papers, books or other old unknown items. Each room I had been in looked like a storages (dirty) patient rooms.
