While strolling Via Francesco Crispi, my family and I decided to try Ganci. My wife, K, was interested in trying the local delicacy, Arancini (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arancini).
The good:
According to my wife, the Arancini were fantastic. The first she tried was stuffed with mozzarella, bolognese sauce, and peas. She loved it, and the piece I tried was a delightful treat. The second she ordered had mozzarella and (we believe) ham. It also was the goods!
I ordered meat and cheese wrap that also--if you can believe it--had french fries in side! It was hot, filling, and satisfied my need for something doughy.
The not so good:
The staff were on the spectrum between indifferent and rude. Also, it is a cash-only business, so keep your plastic in your pocket and make sure you have enough Euros on hand before you order (we did). The inside (at least in April) is too warm for my comfort, but if you sit at the tables outside, expect that you will be served cigarette smoke as a side dish.
Overall: When next in Palermo, I would definitely buy food there again, but only as take-out. That way the brusque customer service will be irrelevant to your experience. read more
