Taverna dei Canti was a great first dinner in Palermo. It is in the historic center, on a lively pedestrian-only street, and the whole area has a fun, energetic feel, especially at night. The food was excellent and very tasty, with a nice mix of familiar options like a traditional margherita pizza, along with pastas and Sicilian dishes. Everything we had was satisfying and well done. The outdoor seating is very lively and has a great Palermo atmosphere. We wanted something a little quieter, so we sat inside, where there are only a few tables. That ended up being perfect for us. Overall, this was a very enjoyable meal in a great location. Good food, a fun setting, and a nice way to experience the energy of Palermo. read more

I don't believe I have given a restaurant a low review as this one. But I value places same as they sale themselves to be. The staff actually stopped us on the street and made it seemed like a great place to eat. We asked if they had fish on the menu as a few of them wanted fish and they confirmed showed us a menu taped to a board in front of restaurant which we liked. We ask to sit outside but only if the two tables by our side were not smoking because we have asthma. They confirmed sat us down. However the bartender had his girlfriend sitting by the bar next to us and she decided to smoke even when she could see us covering out faces. She did it two more times which made it worse. The waiter kept us waiting a while. Finally came and dropped menus and a paper bag which we then noticed it was extremely hard bread. So hard we could hit the table with it. Terrible and sad for an Italian restaurant and for the price. We ordered our food and one of us was left waiting for a long time. Our waitress was no where to be found. I flagged some and told them. And we were left waiting. I went up and found someone and explained and they finally admitted they made a mistake. However no apologies. I had to get up again as the food was still not brought in. All the food was bland except the carbonara which was the only meal we all agreed was great. The fish and vegetables were so disgusting we had to add salt; olive oil, and even balsamic to get some flavors. One of the fish was ordered with different sides and they also had that wrong. Very sad Will say never to go to this place. Service was bad, no one cared and no one even asked. read more

Very small inside with a very cool looking bar. The seating outside is pretty big. We were greeted enthusiastically and seated in a preferred spot inside because it was so windy outside. We ordered 2 different lasagna and both were delivered quickly. The vegetable lasagna had peas and carrots inside, not my favorite but the red sauce with meat was very good, and made extra cheesy with butrata cheese on top. A very nice place to have dinner. read more

Went here with my girl friends when visiting Sicily had the best time! Loved the pesto pasta .

One of the better meals we had along Via Maqueda in Sicily! The pastas were perfect, we ordered the cacio e pepe (which was nice if you like pepper since it came with two kinds of pepper, one of them being peppercorns for a nice crunch), the carbonara (the guanciale was phenomenal) and the bolognese, which was good but nothing super special. I would have liked to have tried the pasta norma, but since my family does not like eggplant I had to appease them, as we all shared our dishes. Each of the pasta dishes the pasta was cooked to textual perfection, and each pasta was intentionally. paired well with the sauce. We also ordered a margherita pizza and while it wasn't bad, I wouldn't come here for it. The crust is on the thicker side, more bready, but the sauce was just a tad too sweet, almost sugary sweet, which we were not fans of. It's not your neopolitan style pizza, probably more Sicilian, which makes sense. But there are so many pizza joints around, I wouldn't not come here for that. read more

Service was horrendous. Food comes out whenever they feel like serving it and people at your table could be finishing their food before you even get yours. Overpriced and they tried to overcharge me on the bill. Luckily I caught it. Horrible place horrible people. read more

Good food, the tiramisu and Cheesecake is good, friendly staffs . Service is good. The place is nice it's by the street.

The staff was friendly and spoke english. The food was good and portions were adequate. The appetizers and drinks were a bit pricey and there was a cover charge, not visible on the menu or website. The waiter was upselling a 60 euro special- sea bass for 2. Our neighbors ordered it and I watched the waiter struggle to debone and skin the fish, and remove the head. When he was done, there wasn't much meat left and I'm sure it must have been ice cold. Stick to the pasta dishes, or, if you get a whole fish, take it apart yourself. read more

Walking down the ever busy Via Maqueda, this bar is always busy. The patio is usually full with patrons -- and everyone is sipping on Aeperol Spritzers. On our last day in Palermo -- and rather hot day of touring around -- we were itching to try out this popular hangout. There's a chalkboard outside with daily specials. Light bites. And per Sicilian hospitality, each apértif comes with a few small bites. This time, they served us fried chickpea patties (a typical Sicilian street food). Our concierge recommend this place to us. We told him we did not want a touristy spot. We wanted a place the locals go. Well he certainly hit the spot, the out door dinning room was perfect for a starlit night in Rome. The food and service was 5 star. The pasta was all homemade and served in true Roman style sauces. We took a walk after dinner to a very lively area with many bars restaurants and live music. The area is one of the best night spots in Rome. This will be a first stop on our next trip to Rome. read more

This was our last meal in Sicily, and I wondered if something right on the main road could actually be any good. Credit where it's due though - we really enjoyed this meal, by and large. It's also fun to sit right on one of the main pedestrian walking streets, although you will get people coming up and asking for money and trying to sell you stuff. The seafood salad was the only part of the meal I didn't really love, but the pasta with sardines, raisins, pine nuts, and fennel was terrific. I know, it's all the classic Sicilian stuff and sounds like you could get it anywhere, but somehow even on our last night it actually felt really original and new despite the fact we've probably eaten a dozen similar pastas. I don't know how they managed to do it, but it was great. We also appreciated the rare chance to eat meat - so much seafood here - the pork dish was really well-prepared, with a good sauce and some fresh vegetables. I know this is a general Sicilian complaint, but my God the service was pretty bad. We were just screaming for the bill internally for like, 30 minutes. Nobody even walked by. I know to an extent that's normal here, but this felt pretty egregious. Also a few mixups with what we ordered, both food and alcohol. Worth it for the food though, just don't come if you're in a rush! read more

We came for an early dinner and were seated immediately, with relatively quick service (though as it got busier service got a little slower). The staff were helpful and spoke English, which was good for us tourists. The Sicilian ragout pasta was very delicious. We also got the black squid pasta, the mussels pasta, and the medium size tasting platter. These dishes were good portions and tasted fine, but were just okay. It was a filling meal and it is in a convenient location, but it was nothing too special. read more
