Excellent food, probably the best we had during our week in Palermo. We had swordfish and meatballs. The owner asked what kind of wine we liked and brought us each a glass. The red wine tasted like a Syrah blend, it was easily the best wine that I had in Palermo. Prices seemed reasonable. I recommend getting a reservation, there was often a long line of people waiting for tables. read more

La Galleria was a wonderful recommendation, from our Odyssey's Tour Leader Marina Caruso. We had such a kind reception and then emotional conversation with our Iranian waiter Farad. Sicily has a larger population of immigrants than I expected. The world is in such turmoil, but Sicily seems in keeping with the island's history. What a wonderful evening of great food, great service and a conversation we won't soon forget. La Galleria is Sicily at its true best self and we highly recommend it! read more

Very disappointed! Came here tonight with my husband. We had a lovely starter of fried cheese. My husband had a nice piece of swordfish with salad, which was nicely done. I had the misfortune of ordering the meatballs, which were cooked with cheese and mash potatoes -- at least according to the menu. They arrived on a skewer, no mashed potatoes, but cut up white potatoes instead. I could barely dislodge them from the skewer they were so incredibly overcooked. The cheese in between was brown and literally rock hard, when I called the waiter over he offered to replace them which I accepted. Almost a half hour later, no communication from the waiter, no new meatballs, no sign or any food, and my husband was now long done eating his dinner. We asked for the check. The owner then yelled at ME for not being patient enough! He said food in Sicily takes time! Really? I waited for the first meal and it was totally inedible, how long exactly am I supposed to wait for you to cook it right the second time? The owners reaction was really over the top, and he should be ashamed. They served me bad, inedible food and then yelled at us for not being patient enough to wait through a second hour for a replacement? Please. You make a poor dish, own it, apologize and make it right. I would happily have waited a reasonable amount of time for that. After one hour and 15 minutes with zero communication, that is not on me,it's on you. Own it! This restaurant is probably still worth a visit as I feel my bad dish was an aberration, but the attitude of ownership was absolutely rubbish, and they should be ashamed. read more

Very disappointing. We showed up, waited about 15 minutes, the hostess was rather cold. Then we got assigned to a table at the very end of the alley, which was fine but here we are an hour and a quarter after showing up and all we had is a couple of pieces of bread And a small focaccia. We first visited Palermo and La Galleria two years ago, twice because it was so pleasant and the food so good that we violated our own rule in favor of trying different restaurants. This year on our second visit to Palermo we went back and were not disappointed. The preparation, setting, wine list... all great. The staff is warm: a friendly chat with our server Farhad morphed into a nice conversation with the rest of the staff. When we return to Palermo, we will return to La Galleria. Do make reservations if you can. They make every effort to seat you in any case, but the place is popular and quick to fill up. read more

Farad was so warm and accommodating. The setting is fantastic on a charming narrow street with balconies filled with red geraniums. A stunning cathedral nearby. Focaccia was incredible, ravioli delicious and great selection of wines. read more

Stoped for a quick drink and bite to east. We were greeted by staff Angelica. She is pleasant and not shy to share her English with us. We had a delightful visit with her, Veronica, and Maria. We had such a nice time together talking that we are returning tomorrow for lunch. Great ambience- must stop by for a cool drink and say hi. read more

During a recent trip to Italy, my wife and I stumbled into La Galleria based on the Yelp reviews and proximity to our hotel. This place is a superior experience of food, people, and ambiance. The restaurant has a real feeling of intimacy. You get the sense that the staff enjoy working there; it comes across in their interactions with the guests. I am having a hard time finding the right words to describe the environment, but it feels cozy, but not cramped, intimate but not stuffy. I wouldn't describe it as particularly appropriate for small children, but there was an outside eating space where that might have worked. The food and wine were also amazing. The dishes were lovingly prepared and we even made room for dessert. Highly, highly recommend! read more

This restaurant was recommended by our tour guide. We couldn't get a table the first visit without a reservation, but decided to try again a few days later and I am glad we did! The food was delicious and the service was excellent! Salvatore took very good care of us even though we got there only 30 minutes before closing for the afternoon. Oh yes, oh yeees! Wild boar sauce on pasta. This makes everything and anything else pale by comparison. I plowed that dish! Momma K said it was the the best Eggplant Tappanata EVER! BigK (yes there is another) has pasta with anchovies and proclaimed absolute wonderfulness! This little bistro in Palermo was a great stop that should be open 24-7! I am not one to gush, (well ok, maybe a bit) but this was perfection. Tucked back into the recesses of a side street near the cathedral, sits this little gem of gastro-mania. Wonderful wine (Oro Marsala Superiore) was the absolute icing on the freakin' cake! No reservations so get there kinda early but be prepared! read more

I had the loveliest dinner in years here! The staff was amazing, informative and hospitable. Not to mention, the restaurant itself is charming and cute. I had the burrata salad to begin with, which was the best salad I have ever had because it tasted so fresh! Then, I moved on to the stuffed raviloi and finished with the steak. I highly recommend all! Even though I was solo, it never felt like it. The staff was always attentive and hospital, as if I was dining among friends! Party of four, courses delivered at different times to different people. No one asked if our dishes were OK. No one checked to see if we'd like more wine. Tables around us were ignored as well. We had a nice meal here. We had the tomato and avocado salad, which was nice! The pasta norma and beef skewers were good. The actual pasta noodles were fantastic. I recommend getting a carafe of the house wine, which is from Avola, and a 1/2 liter is only five euros. read more

I came here with my family of six and each one of us loved all of our dishes. The ambiance is beautiful and relaxing. The wait service was very good and everyone was very welcoming and nice. We started with the fried fish dish which was delicious and the tuna carpaccio was fantastic. For dinner we got the linguini with clams which was excellent, one of the best we've tasted. Another dish we had was the amatriciana which was also equally as excellent. Everything was very reasonably priced and overall we had a fantastic experience. Best meal so far in Palermo. The best was the lovely way we Were treated by the staff but especially, Valentina, our attentive and patient waitress. She took the time to explain everything. Had the most amazing (plain and wonderful!) salad with greens, tomatoes avocado and pine nuts. The beefsteak was good, but really, we should have ordered a pasta or fish. The staff at our hotel recommended this restaurant and I can honestly say we had the best meal out of our entire 2 week stay in Italy. We had the Cappelli in a butter and sage sauce. Outstanding. Located further from the touristy Via Maqueda this pearl of Italian cuisine rewards you for walking in the Sicilian heat: The staff is very friendly and fast. On the first glimpse you don't discover any salt and pepper on the table - nor a bottle of olive oil or vinegar to spice up your meal, because you won't need to. The meals we've had (La Galeria became our favourite) were perfectly spiced. Cannot give this place enough applause! The staff is extremely friendly. The wine - FANTASTIC! And the food... Where do I start?! I stumbled upon this place yesterday for lunch. The owner let me try a few wines, we talked, I had some sort of stuffed eggplant with cheese and tomato and mint - and left so happy that I came back the next day! They remembered me, greeted me with "ciao, welcome back!" And poured a glass of incredible white wine for me. I had linguini with shrimp and clams - the linguini was perfect, the clams were perfect, everything was SO GREAT. The environment is cool, rustic, with a Great Wall of wine and some antiques for decoration. Will definitely come back when I am in Palermo again. read more
