The Short Version:
Small casual Korean restaurant with delicious and affordable food.
The Long Version:
My husband and I had dinner here and it was great.
So my mom and I ate at the OG Ganadara when it was located at 1862 de Maisonneuve Blvd W (where Jako Restaurant is now). It was the only location at the time and it was incredibly popular. We stood in line for 90 minutes, and that was the norm for the restaurant at the time. I thought it was good, but I wouldn't wait in line again for it, lol.
So I learned that Ganadara closed down during the Pandemic for 2 years and when they reopened they joined Group S.I.N.I, a Canadian-based franchise group that also operates Sushi Sama and Le Poké Station. So they have multiple locations now and there are no longer lineups, lol.
I'm happy to report that the food is still good. I guess it's no longer considered "cool" the way it once was (like they didn't even have any signage at their original restaurant, it was like a IYKYK kind of place), haha.
I got the Dak Balls Cupbap ($14.50) which was Korean fried chicken with rice, shredded cabbage, cucumber slices, an onsen egg, 2 deep-fried dumplings and 2 pieces of seaweed. It was tasty. The chicken was crispy on the outside and moist and tender on the inside. It was thigh meat and some pieces were a bit fatty, which I wasn't a huge fan of but it was still enjoyable. The portion size was good and I liked the variety of ingredients in the bowl.
My husband got the kimchi and beef bulgogi poutine ($14). It was fries, cheese, kimchi, beef bulgogi, gravy and a spicy mayo sauce. He really enjoyed it. I thought it was ok, but it's not something I would have ordered for myself. The fries were from frozen and the whole thing was too saucy for my tastes, lol. I did enjoy the beef bulgogi though.
I asked for no sesame seeds on our meals and they were able to accommodate.
You order and pay at the counter and they bring the food out when it's ready. Service was pleasant, but minimal. They don't check up on you after your food has been delivered. And there's no complimentary tap water if you dine in. There are bottled and canned drinks for purchase.
The eatery is small with seating for about 20 people.
It's in downtown Montreal, so street parking only.
