I came with a Korean coworker who had seen great reviews about Chez Bong. He got the jajangmyeon and said it was okay but missing something. I got the half and half wings (half plain and half saucy). The wings are really crispy however the plain is actually plain - there's no salt or seasoning on it. The saucy ones were sweet and tangy but because of the light breading, the wings got soggy quickly. Overall just okay.

It's comfort food and that sometimes is all one needs. Especially after a night of NSFW activities. The people are super nice and the place itself is very spacious and inviting. Their side dishes definitely could use an upgrade BUT the lady who made our food literally thanked us for eating at their establishment which we found to be quite nice considering most folks from Montreal don't know how to say thank you.

If you're looking for some asian food in the area, this place is good, quick service and has a nice sitdown. I got the japchaebap with beef which is like a hybrid with japchae and bipbimbop with the noodles and rice/egg. For the price it was good and had me pretty full.

Tasty korean dishes like tteokbokki, jjamppong and kimchi jjigae! Many places to sit.

Just got back from a glorious lunch at Chez Bong full of sticky, sweet and spicy, peanut-crusted Korean fried chicken and everybody needs to know about it. I'm going to say best fried chicken I've had outside of Nashville, call me crazy. The fried chicken comes in servings for 2, but we had a bunch leftover so I think you could share between 3. We did half regular and have sweet and spicy, loved being able to go back and forth with some banchan in between and taste the flavours in the sauce and the batter, and in whatever that black dipping sauce was (fermented black bean?) We also shared a kimchi jjigae spicy stew with pork belly, because it was cold and rainy outside (endlessly) and it was the perfect thing. Everything was light and fresh and not over greasy. It was quiet for a Tuesday lunch, classical music playing as we sat alone in the heritage building that houses this unpretentious spot and the staff were warm and friendly and there were tons of other things on the menu I wanted to try. Can't wait to go back. Go support these folks when near Concordia if you like Korean food, or comfort food, or food generally!

Ordered some jajangmyeong bc I was craving it recently. The food came quite quickly and definitely hit the spot. I remember when chez bong used to make homemade noodles for this dish but now they no longer do so! Nevertheless the dish was yummy and I would order it again.

Pretty good Korean food for good value! Came here on a Saturday night and there weren't any other customers, this place is super underrated! It's a bit hidden and the decor is really dingy, so I guess it might put some people off. Service was extremely fast and friendly, but maybe it's because there weren't that many customers. We got a combo for two, which included a black bean pork noodle dish, a spicy seafood noodle soup, and sweet and sour pork. If you get a combo, it's about $5 cheaper than getting the items separately! The food was stardard fare, nothing to complain about but nothing too spectacular. The portions are large and has great flavour. Just kinda wished they would give better side starters (along with the kimchi). Also the pork dish was wild, there was a side of coleslaw topped with ketchup and random pears and papaya in the sauce. Would definitely recommend if you're looking for an affordable and tasty Korean meal downtown.

    Spicy chicken. Spicy indeed!

I LOVE Korean food and this is definitely among my top 3 favorite Korean restaurants in the city. First of all, the atmosphere is great: it is usually very quiet, most of the time there are only a handful of other customers in the restaurant. So you can relax and take your time eating while having conversations where you don't have to scream to hear each other. The music varies between classical and k-pop depending on the visit, both not very loud. Secondly, they have the best pajeon in the city. BY FAR. I have to take that every time I visit, even if I'm not that hungry. The portion is huge, the pieces are nicely cut so you can eat them in one bite and don't have to tear all the green onion out, and the ratio of flour vs ingredients is just right. The dough is very chewy, which is not the case in most pajeons I've tasted in Montreal, even though that's part of the definition of a pajeon. Other items I often take are the soups: kimchi or sundubu jiggae. Very flavourful and the right amount of spicy. The jajjangmein is also very tasty, and only 9$. I would suggest not mixing all the sauce in the noodles at once, because it might be too salty for some. The newly added fried chicken is also among the best I've tasted in town, both the original and the sweet and spicy ones. They tend to have a bit more grease, so that the chicken is not dry at all. The only thing I would not advise is the Gam Ja Tang: it may look good, but there's not enough saltiness or richness at all and the potato chunks are huge, so that the flavour can't get in. All in all, this restaurant is among the most underrated ones in Montreal, which might be a good thing for regulars since it's always so calm, but it's just so good I had to share :)

I'll give four stars for this restaurent. The service is slow but they make it good. I work right next to this place. I came often with my boss for a dinner. If you know Korea's food then you know how they make it. We tried lot of dishes. Special the boneless chicken. Really good. Also the fried chicken with peanut sauce. Or half peanut half spicy.

It's a big place where you could come in with a group and the ambiance is comfortable and quiet, but the decoration and maintainance needs some work... I've only tried one plate, the black bean noodles and it was good, I noticed the menu had photos in it so you could actually "see" what you order, but didn't see any description in English or french, which would have been nice. Overall a good place to enjoy good korean Chinese food.

In love with the traditional Korean family dishes at Chez Bong. They taste best in Montreal, especially their Jajangmyeon.

Service was one of the better things about this restaurant. Our server was attentive quick and the food came out fairly fast after ordering. Restaurant has a lot of small tables and is better for smaller groups and you can squeeze multiple people into the smaller tables as long as you let your server know that you're fine with squeezing in. It's got a fun vibe to it with nice decor and maybe a good place to go to hang out with your friends and grab some drinks.

May be getting carry out instead? We were able to get seated at a two top picnic table before 7pm, only about a 5-10 minute wait. Ordered two sides of kimchi, Kim gui, tteokbokki, regular spicy chickie, Buldak chicken. C$74.23 The kimchi side comes with a side of shredded radish, which is quite sweet. Was hoping it would be the cubed radish kimchi instead. The shredded radish clumps together, it's ok. The kimchi is also so-so. The seaweed is good. The tteokbokki is a small portion, the gochujang sauce tastes smokey, it's pretty good. Comes with mushrooms. The spicy chickie is good, the breading is light and crispy. The chickie is nicely fried, not too dry. I should have read more carefully, the Buldak is smothered in cheese, had to removed it all off the top of the meat. The meat is oddly cut, it's nicely cooked and tender. It's a big portion of meat. There is no complimentary rice with the BBQ Buldak chicken, that's a first. No banchans here as complimentary here either, not very Korean of this place at all. :/

TL;DR/The Short Version: Casual Korean eatery. Great combos…read morewith lots of variety. Everything was tasty. The Long Version: My husband and I went here for lunch. I got the fried chicken combo ($16.99) and my husband got the beef combo ($16.99). We requested no sesame seeds for our food and they accommodated by not sprinkling sesame seeds on the rice, japchae or beef, but they forgot that one of the fried chicken sauces has sesame seeds in it, so I had to give my husband that piece. We were going to share anyway, so it wasn't a big deal for me. The Fried Chicken Combo came with 3 pieces of fried chicken, each one a different flavour: original, sweet and spicy, and soy garlic. The sweet and spicy sauce has sesame seeds in it. Since I can't eat sesame seeds but can tolerate slight contamination, I didn't bring it up and just gave that piece to my husband. Although in retrospect I should have alerted them for them to be more aware for someone else who might have a more severe issue. Both combos came with japchae, rice, 2 dumplings, and coleslaw. The fried chicken was crispy on the outside and tender and juicy on the inside. It was great. I liked both the original and the soy garlic. Hubby liked the sweet and spicy. The beef was tender and flavourful. And I liked that it was lean meat and not gristly. The dumplings were deep-fried and had pork and vegetables in it. The rice was nicely steamed and slightly sticky which I liked. The japchae was flavourful and had shiitake mushrooms, carrots, bell peppers and onions in it. It was little too oily for my preference, but I still enjoyed it. The combos also came with a can of soda or a bottle of water. My husband got a Coca Cola and I got a bottle of water, which I took to go to drink during my shopping adventures after lunch, since we were given tap water with our meal. Service was courteous and efficient. Lots of indoor seating with televisions playing K-pop music videos in the dining room. The restaurant is down a flight of stairs, so might be a problem for those with mobility issues. Review #18 (2025)
