We can't recommend Tinker and Gamma Piercing enough for kids ear piercings. They do a great job at explaining everything, patiently answering all the questions, and making sure the kid knows that they are in control at every step. Tinker went so far as to make sure our daughter knew that if she backed out there wouldn't be push back or a fee for us to pay, it was always ok to come back another day. It's something she'd wanted for 5 years but still was nervous. They sat there helping her breathe until she felt confident and ready, and they read her very well, when she said "ready" they moved quick and got it over with. I went to Gamma for my first piercing done in Ann Arbor, I usually never go anywhere besides the shop I go to back home. But I booked an appointment with Gamma and although my experience was okay, the atmosphere of the shop feels awkward and disingenuous. After getting my piercing, I didn't like the sizing of the jewelry and called to ask if I can come in to just simply buy a new piece (not having them change it themselves) and I was told I'd have to book for a jewelry change (which cost $10, not including jewelry. Even this service was booked out for several weeks... After this I went to Ideal Body Piercing, right down the road from Gamma. There they accept walk-ins and quick service. I got new jewelry for my piercing and they changed it for me. Quickly and at an acceptable price. I think the atmosphere so so much better. While Gamma looks flashy, I think Ideal has a much more genuine feel from their workers. I don't see myself ever booking with Gamma again. read more

Came to get my nose pierced on a Thursday night and was greeted by a really friendly staff. I wanted to come somewhere with a good reputation and was very clean and sanitized their equipment properly. I was so happy that I came here and was pierced by one of the owners, Jeff. Jeff is very knowledgeable, very skilled and very friendly! I ended up getting my nose pierced and my septum and he explained the process, was very gentle and very particular to make sure my piercings were perfect for me. He is also a nose piercing instructor across the United States and you can see his certifications on the wall. He walked me through cleaning and caring for my piercings. The jewelry they offer is absolutely gorgeous. I settled for a rose gold nose ring with a small moonstone. I love it so much! My daughter got her ears pierced a few months ago and came with her mom to see Jef. I was impressed by the results and his attention to detail. A friend had earring holes some 25+ years ago but they have since closed up. She prioritized safety and cleaniness. I remembered Gamma and Jef and brought my friend here for her piercing. Pro tip: Gamma is located on the first floor of the building where Pinball Pete's Arcade is located. Park in one of the three city spaces in back of the building. Enter through the metal doors next to the post office. Gamma is the first right as you enter through the rear entrance. You can also enter through the front door after parking on S. University near the UM central campus. Appointments are HIGHLY recommended. Jef takes the time to do a first-class piercing and carefully explained how to care for piercing holes over the next eight weeks. I had to walk through the piercing area to use the restroom and was very impressed at how CLEAN the facility was kept. There is a nice selection of earrings and studs from simple to glamorous. Jef and Gamma are not limited to just ear piercing, although that is a good part of his business. Rates were more than fair at just $35 for ears which includes ear lobe disinfectant to keep the piercing holes clean. Earrings and studs made out of non-reactive metals are necessary. Long overdue review because I visited a year ago. I got my third ear lobe piercing done here, can't remember the name of the piercer. I left feeling meh about it since there wasn't any cute jewelry to pick from - wish I did a more thorough inspection of their social media to see what styles they offered. Fast forward over five months and I was still getting major discomfort from the piercings, particularly on my right ear piercing. Went to get it checked out at a piercing studio in Seattle, where I currently reside. The piercer at the Seattle studio told me that the piercer at this studio actually unevenly pierced it and that it was too close to my cartilage, which is why it was healing as if it was a cartilage piercing. There is so much space on my lobes so I'm not sure why the piercer went so far up. Overall, okay experience. I actually paid more for the piercing fee here compares to the other studios I've been to - though I paid more at the other studios for jewelry. After the lack of cute jewelry and piercing misplacement I'm not sure if I'd come back. read more

So I got a piercing at another studio that was not healing as it should...I came in and talked with the staff, and they said my ear might not be reacting well with the material in the other piercing. I picked out an earring from Gamma (well, actually a bunch of earrings...) and asked them to help me change mine out. The staff was SO professional, everything was sterile, and they even had me go into a private room for the jewelry change. The jewelry change did not cost anything since I purchased the jewelry here. I woke up today, and my ear is already looking so much better!! Edit: It states on their website that they will only put new sterilized jewelry from their own store into a new piercing. They will sterilize your own jewelry if your piercings are healed and change the jewelry for you. I think the fee for that is only $5. They sell labret style piercing jewelry for earrings with flat backs which are so comfortable to sleep in! read more

We brought our 12 year old daughter here to get her lobes pierced (household rules - we want our kids to be old enough to take responsibility for the cleanliness/healing of their piercings before getting them). Our experience with this business was FANTASTIC. From the time we walked into the studio, our family was cheerfully greeted and made to feel welcome from beginning to end. Our daughter was excited but nervous; all her feelings were acknowledged, and she was told from the word go she could opt out at any time. The earring selection is not massive, but VERY tasteful, employing implant-grade materials. After the piercing is healed, you can buy new fronts for the posts they sell without buying a completely new set - meaning, the posts stay the same and the front (jewel) can be different. Earrings were $100, piercing was $50. Worth EVERY penny - such a far cry from my mallrat piercing with a gun in the mid-80's. I was almost tempted to get my ears re-pierced after letting them close up years ago! Please note that they book up in advance; you can make an appointment on their website. And BTW - they had Disney music on, knowing their appointment was for kids! Our daughters were singing along with the piercing technician and everyone had such a fun, positive and relaxing experience. I came here to check out the jewelry selection and get a smaller size for the circular barbell in my septum. I was unhappy with my jewelry because I felt that it was too big and it just took up my entire face. I had gotten my septum done about a month or so ago, so it was fairly new and my piercer was not okay with me changing it out so early, which I understood. But because I was so unhappy with it, I was constantly moving it around to straighten it, push it up more, etc. The jewelry collection there was very impressive. There was a large amount of high quality jewelry from gold to titanium and an amazing variety. I debated for a long while about whether or not to try and anodize the circular barbell to rose gold, since I have a rose gold hoop in my nostril. I knew matching the color would be difficult, but it is as close as it could possibly be! I am very impressed with how it turned out. And even though I changed my mind about three times, Amanda and Jessica were so patient and personable! I had such an enjoyable time. I first had just the plain silver, the size still seemed too big to me, so I got a smaller size and decided to go with it anodized. Throughout the whole process, I didn't feel rushed. The only reason I have given a slightly lower rating is because I felt that the place lacked proper tools and equipment. They didn't use any tapers or clamps or anything to change out my jewelry, so it made it slightly more painful. Additionally, I felt the prices were a little higher than they typically should be. Aside from that, it is an awesome place! I will definitely be visiting again to get some unique jewelry for my septum once it heals! read more

I was seen promptly in the very clean office by Tinker, who determined that the hole was still open and able to be used for a new ring. Being that I was in Ann Arbor just for the summer I was a bit nervous as this was not my home piercing place but all the reviews seemed great. I had a fantastic experience here! Jef greeted me upon arrival and had a very cool and relaxed demeanor. I was getting my daith pierced and learned that he was taught to pierce this particular piercing by a friend who was taught by the man that essentially created it. I found that super special and hella dope! The actual procedure was very professional, clean and fairly quick. I had a few friends in the room and Jef was very cool about it. A few weeks later I also called Gamma while traveling to New York to ask for help in purchasing saline wash for my piercing!
