They love to chit chat and are into a lot of esoteric things. That is the charm of these mom and pop shops-- you get to know the people. The downside is the overall goals for the store are overly ambitious for the couple and others in the area are doing it better. There are a lot of arcade machines inside, broken, collecting dust, while other businesses such as an arcade in Paw Paw is set to open, and there is an expanded Beercade in downtown Kalamazoo with more arcade games and pinball machines. In terms of their product, often it is priced high while the condition of it is quite low. I've bought multiple disk games that didn't work. Some were too scratched to play or the disks were warped. I tried to have them repaired but they were too far gone. In short, products aren't tested at all or not thoroughly. Some handhelds have faulty electronics, bad speakers, and other problems that don't justify their price. Often, they are priced higher than ones in a better condition on eBay. As much as I want to recommend Treasure Quest because it's a mom and pop shop, I can't. The products they have don't justify the price and the overall condition of many of the items are below average.

My husband had something to do in town today so he brought me by to spend some birthday money,…read moresince my birthday was on Thursday. I bought 3 books, totaling $38 and some change. All 3 were about traveling in America which is right up my alley because we typically go on one big trip a year. One of the books was specifically about National Parks and during our trip in June we plan to go to at least 3 National Parks. The store was very well organized and (despite probably being smaller) felt bigger than the Mishawaka location. Everything was easy to find and displayed nicely. Lots of books were even discounted, which was also nice. Employees were nice and made checkout easy. I do tend to prefer small/locally owned stores, but as far as Barnes & Noble go, this location is pretty cool.

I feel like this kind of interactive experience with reading is more enjoyable than flipping pages...it kind of feels like I'm watching a movie. The selection of audio books that they carry is pretty wide for such a little store and they have another store in Grand Rapids too, so if you don't see what you want, chances are they can get it for you. The cost is about $30/month but considering the cost of buying an audio book is say $15-$30, a couple of books per month more than off sets the cost of the subscription I pay here.

It was expensive until I started at Iskape and now read two books at once. I listen to a business or motivational book on the way to work and a science fiction, western or spy thriller on the way home. I no longer am bothered by the long drive, traffic back ups or worry about the work pressures. I relax. In fact now when I paint a room, clean the garage or carry out other tasks at home I put on an audible book. I live a ways from the Iskape store and use the online order system and have a list of audio books I want. They arrive in the mail. Sometimes Steve will slip in a new one he thinks I will like based on my previous choices. Always a nice surprise. A great company!

I was in the Park Hills neighborhood dog sitting this week and almost missed Kazoo Books. I took a sharp turn in because I had to check it out. The staff is engaging and pleasant and they have load and loads of books, practically everything you would find in B&N for same value or less (they have preowned books too). I will always prefer to shop small business and now I have a perfect excuse to become a regular customer of Kazoo Books and you should too :)
