Walked across the sidewalk and visited Book Bug which is a children's book store. Again, a wide selection of books, comfy sitting space and a playhouse for the kiddos. All 3 were about traveling in America which is right up my alley because we typically go on one big trip a year. One of the books was specifically about National Parks and during our trip in June we plan to go to at least 3 National Parks. The store was very well organized and (despite probably being smaller) felt bigger than the Mishawaka location. Everything was easy to find and displayed nicely. Lots of books were even discounted, which was also nice. Employees were nice and made checkout easy. I do tend to prefer small/locally owned stores, but as far as Barnes & Noble go, this location is pretty cool.

I was in the Park Hills neighborhood dog sitting this week and almost missed Kazoo Books. I took a sharp turn in because I had to check it out. The staff is engaging and pleasant and they have load and loads of books, practically everything you would find in B&N for same value or less (they have preowned books too). I will always prefer to shop small business and now I have a perfect excuse to become a regular customer of Kazoo Books and you should too :)

We are always in search of used book stores, something that is getting harder to find all the time…read more While visiting the University of Notre Dame we did a YELP search and found Erasmus ... and what a find it was. Now for those avid readers looking for an orderly used book store ... you might have to look elsewhere. But if you are looking for a book store with thousands of used books ... with only a basic framework to the organization of inventory ... this is your place. Set in an old cottage-style home that has been granted Landmark Status in this residential neighborhood, there are books everywhere ... in the basement, on the first floor, and supposedly in each and every room. Most of the books are on shelves, but many are in assorted stacks. The owner/manager of the place is a wonder all to himself. Friendly and outgoing, he actually does know where the major genres are in his layout, and he can help you get close to what you seek. The rest is up to you. The owner is always buying additional used books to flesh out the collection, so that could be a thing for those that are interested. On the buy side, if the owner doesn't have it ... he can probably find you what you want. The store is also complemented with a wonderful old watchdog that is almost on his last legs ... but he will get up and greet you if you have a few minutes. He adds to the overall ambience of this historic building. Now for those that have forgotten: Erasmus was a Dutch humanist, Catholic theologian, and pioneering philologist (philology being the study of literary texts and oral and written records) and we assume the source of the store's name. All in all this was a great stop on our visit ... and we'll be sure to do it again.

This is the small town book store everyone pictures and daydreams about…read more It's not too big or too small. They had about every type of book I could think of, and used and new met side by side in an easy to follow flow. It was light and friendly and smelled of books. "House with a Clock in its Walls" was inspired by a home in this little town of Marshall. And fittingly, there were copies of the book by the cash register. The owner/employee(?) was able to share some knowledge about the author and the book and even gave us directions to drive past the inspiration house. We will be back. Quite a good collection of used AND NEW books on their shelves. Clearly priced and some bargains. Current events, clearance, used and brand new stuff here.
