I've long been a fan of the Half Price Books chain, a chain started in Dallas in 1972. You could…read morepretty much say I've grown up with Half Price Books. I'm pretty stunned that I've never reviewed this location, though I don't frequent it nearly as much since I moved into Lawrence Township. I grew up in Pike Township and this really was my location for many years. In my opinion, it's one of the most accessible of the Indy HPB locations and I've always been pleased with my experiences here. I was in this area checking out His Place Eatery and nostalgia demanded I return for a visit to this HPB. This location has two entrances. Both sides offer accessible parking, though the side facing West 86th Street is definitely more accessible. One side has a double glass doorway, the other has a single glass door. Both sides offer curb cuts, though the side facing West 86th Street has a much easier grade. For those familiar with HPB, there's the consistency you can expect - reasonably priced books, CDs, DVDs, Blu-rays, and even some VHS. Books are incredibly well organized and there's always a nicely done clearance section. They also have novelty stuff - like t-shirts, games, etc. The employees here are always friendly - I've had multiple friends work for HPB over the years and they always praise the chain. Most, of course, end up leaving for financial reasons, however, they all remember HPB with a sense of nostalgia. On this visit, I noticed there was a local author doing a book signing. Since I nearly always support local authors, I bought his book. The aisles are always in good shape here. The store is clean. There's a public bathroom that's pretty accessible. Employees are always willing to help. And yes, you can still sell them your used books/CDs/movies. And yes, you still won't get much. I've been to just about every HPB location in Central Indiana. This one has a special place in my heart as I really kind of grew up with it. I guess you could say it's my favorite HPB in Indy. This HPB is well organized, has a wonderful selection, offers friendly and helpful service, and is likely the most accessible HPB in the society. All in all, it's a winner and it sure was nice to get back for a visit.

I can always find something that I didn't know I needed at Books-A-Million. This location is…read moreconvenient for me and I was running a few errands nearby. I was looking for nice writing pens, but I could not find exactly what I wanted. I did find a couple of books that I purchased. They have some unique gifts in their gift section that were tempting as well. The clerk was super friendly and engaging. We asked if he wrapped and he thought we said rap, and we all had a good chuckle. Anyway, checkout was quick. There is plenty of parking in the strip mall lot including accessible parking.

Who doesn't love to randomly stop into a bookstore when they have a few extra hours on their hands?…read moreWho enjoys going to spend those extra hours in a bookstore that doesn't have coffee or a sitting area? Funny background on this location, I used to work here when I was 19 and pregnant as the barista in their now demolished cafe area. At "Joe's" we used to have maybe 3 small round tables with two chairs each & 2 cushioned chairs in the corner with a small table between them. They brewed hot coffee round the clock and also offered a large variety of tea & two slushy type drinks. There was also a food case that had a variety of pastry's & typically one or two savory options. Who made the decision to enclose that area, build a wall & put more books there? Terrible idea & drove me to try and find elsewhere to read in peace and quiet. Although I found quite a few books I wanted to pick up - the atmosphere gave rushed & "DON'T stay awhile" anywho, check out the photos I add- new reads for you all to look into!

On October 1, 2023 I had the worst experience at any GameStop for as long as I've been shopping at…read moreGameStop that I've ever had at the Crawfordsville location in Indianapolis Indiana. Thanks to Cara, my daughter and I was in that location a day prior around 7 PM. I was there to buy a game she seen some items from the clearance section that she wanted we live between 10 to 12 minutes away from that location by time we got home she took it out of the box the item did not work. I tried to contact the location I couldn't get through to the phone so I went to the store around 1 PM next day to exchange it for one that works. The store associate was extremely rude to me would not even look at my receipt cut me off in the middle of talking was non-sympathetic and told me all sales are final I explain to her that I was in there not even 24 hours ago, the associate that cash me out the day prior was standing right there. He never said anything there's a posting of the return policy I read through it thoroughly not once it said anything about clearance items couldn't be returned or exchanged. I was only looking to exchange the item out for the other one that possibly worked, she would not look at my receipt. I ask for customer services number she told me to look at the bottom of the receipt. Then she begin talking more while I was walking out of the store saying things like policy is policy and I said OK cool say no more she still continue to talk while I was leaving the store never disrespected her just ask for corporate number I end up speaking with a member by the name of Hector Once I explain to him, what was going on He wanted to see if he could resolve things she got mad at Hector. She was mad at me. She had told me that she was a store manager when I asked to speak with a manager but once I contact customer service, she said she needs to go contact the store manager, so she lied then after she spent two minutes in the back, she claimed that she contact the store manager and the district manager, and both of them said she's completely right and we are wrong so we're not getting anything exchanged. I had to deal with my daughter being upset, crying and constantly bugging me this morning about exchanging this item she's only six I spent over $80 in that store last night just to come back and completely feel disrespected. After she told me there was nothing else they're gonna do for me. She sit there and stare at a hole while I was trying to wrap things up on the phone with customer service, I was actually going to re-purchase the same toy just to make my daughter happy but her demeanor was so disgusting and the way she stood there and stared at me without even blinking not giving me a chance to wrap things up on the phone. I had to ask her. Why are you standing there staring at me even the customer service rep felt like she was being very disrespectful before I can get a chance to even re-purchase the item she's kicking me out of the store, the worst service I have ever had I feel discriminated on. I am an African-American man and she is a Caucasian woman. The way I was treated I can't help but to fill like if I was the same race, I would have gotten much better service my feelings, and my business is just as important as the next consumer I will never revisit that store again I will never recommend anyone that I know through social media to occupation to relationships to visit that location and I'm debating on renewing my power up rewards. Also there was a child between the ages of four and six laying on the ground behind the register it looked very unprofessional. You can see the lake in the picture. Another thing I took offensive was the fact that she was making hand gestures while telling me to get out of the store very disrespectful
