This is an excellent hobby store. It is primarily focused on model trains, though there is a decent…read moreselection of model plane and car kits too. The owner has extensive knowledge of the hobby and is doing it because he loves it, not to make money. As an example, several items I noticed were priced lower than Ebay or online and when I asked him about that he agreed. However, he was still able to make his margins and wanted to better help local modelers. His section of new and used HO trains is pretty diverse. There are lots of great deals on vintage kits and older stock, but he has modern cars too with all the great details (and higher prices). His O gauge tinplate selection seemed a bit more limited but I don't really focus on that. He had a great selection of books and magazines, and a cute display layout. Behind the counter is his collection of his personal models in display cases. He has (along with his custom painter) assembled what is probably the best collection of locomotives and cars that are unique to the upstate New York area. If local shortlines use (or used) these engines, he has one. It was like looking at a museum. And, if the price is right, he will sell them. My prices weren't right though! It is quite a drive from Albany (about an hour each way) so if I need something I first call ahead to see if he has it. However, if you need advice or want to see what the new trends are in the hobby stop by. And, make sure to check him out at the local trains shows too.

I love Hobby Lobby and this store is about as good as the one in Latham. They don't seem to be…read morearranged exactly the same, which means that I sometimes wander around a bit more looking for things that I need (balsa wood, beads, paint, glue, etc.) Then again, there are much worse fates to have then being stuck in a craft store. True, there is what appears to me to be a lot of useless kitsch junk in the middle section. However, I sometimes go visit places and see that same kitsch so apparently someone is buying it. And, around the holiday season their Christmas display can be overwhelming (I bring my wife at my own risk!). But, in general, I like what the store is and what it stands for.

Everything is displayed not only so that you can fully see the item and price, but also aesthetically pleasing. They have a very extensive set of items here and some really interesting ones, too. You can tell that these folks love what they do and that they are serious about their craft. We visited this store on a road trip. It's a little out of the way if you're traveling either the Northway or Thruway, but absolutely a place we'll return any time we're in the area. It is absolutely worth your drive. Great place! This place was a great hidden gem I found off the highway. It's an odd mix of artisan made candles,…read moresoaps, and other tchotchkes, to go along with their varied selection of antiques, and fresh roaster coffees. The guy there was super nice and very pleasant to speak with. He was very knowledgeable about the products offered in the store and a delight to converse with. I certainly didn't know what to expect walking in here, but am glad we stopped in. Give it a go if you're looking for a unique shopping expereince, or some fresh roasted coffees.
