World Gym

A very good gym with every equipment you need to hit your fitness goals. Old school iron. Benches…read morefor powerlifting as well. Never too busy either so much better than the commercial gyms around Tracy. Plenty of parking. A lot of the older bench pads are recently replaced. Good selection of plate and pin loaded machines.

I've been a member of World Gym Tracy for nearly 13 years, and if you had told me a decade ago that…read morethis place would turn into what it is today, I would've laughed. This used to be the gym everyone in town talked about. It had pride, it had energy, and it felt like the owners actually cared about the people who trained here. But it is not outstanding today. "Mediocre" would be a compliment. Now it feels like an abandoned project that someone forgot to finish. The decline hasn't been gradual or subtle. It's been a free fall. Yes, there's a lot of equipment. Barbells, dumbbells, Hammer Strength stations, cables, cardio machines. On paper, it looks like a fitness paradise. But walk in and take a real look. So many pads are ripped apart, machines are taped together like a middle-school craft project, and benches look like they've survived multiple natural disasters. It's embarrassing to see a gym with this much potential present itself like this. A serious facility doesn't fix equipment with electrical tape like someone patching up a kid's science fair volcano. It's not just sloppy, it's disrespectful to the people paying to use it. And the locker rooms. If you didn't know better, you'd think you'd wandered into a neglected public restroom off the freeway. The Coliseum BART station has cleaner restrooms. They are consistently filthy, and there's no excuse for it. Not at this price point. Not for a gym that used to take pride in being clean. It should not feel like a health risk just to tie your shoes. The building itself is another disaster. The roof literally collapsed in 2023. That should have been a major wake-up call, a turning point, an all-hands-on-deck moment. Instead, nearly three years later, the place is still in patchwork limbo. It feels like the gym is held together more by hope than actual structural integrity. And during the winter, the building turns into a meat locker because they can't be bothered to turn on the heat. People are walking in ready to lift and instead end up shivering through their warm-ups like they're training in an abandoned warehouse in the middle of the Arctic. Services that once made this gym feel like a premium membership have vanished completely. Childcare? Gone. Group exercise classes? Gone. Tanning? Gone. Everything that used to add value has been stripped away, yet the cost of membership has not dropped by a single cent. Members are being asked to pay for an experience that no longer exists. The staff is the clearest indication of how low the bar has fallen. It's not that they're rude. That would at least show engagement. The problem is they're barely present in any meaningful way. Most of the time they are parked behind the front desk scrolling through Instagram, oblivious to broken equipment, dirty floors, overflowing trash, or anything remotely resembling responsibility. Watching the staff stare at their phones while the gym physically decays around them is almost surreal. It sends one unmistakable message: no one is steering the ship. What makes this decline hurt is how much history I have here. I've made friends in this gym. I've hit milestones here. I've pushed myself through countless early mornings and late nights. This place used to feel like a second home. Now it feels like a reminder of how fast standards collapse when ownership stops caring. And the truth is simple. Tracy has far too many gym options now for anyone to tolerate this level of neglect. In Shape. Crunch. GetFit 24/7. Even Planet Fitness. All of them offer cleaner facilities, better-maintained equipment, and more attentive staff. People will absolutely not keep paying premium rates for a rundown gym that treats maintenance and member experience like afterthoughts. You do not get to charge Mercedes prices while providing a Toyota level experience. If World Gym Tracy wants to survive, real changes need to happen. Not next year. Not eventually. Now. Because long-time members aren't leaving because their goals changed. They're leaving because this gym stopped trying, stopped improving, and stopped respecting the people who kept it alive all these years. At this point, it's not the members abandoning the gym. It's the gym abandoning the members.

One recommendation though would be to knock down this room that has some stationary cycles in it. It's rarely used, and it'd be better to use the space to expand the weights area which can get crowded.

I sighed up online, tried to schedule an appointment, had to miss it because I work 9-5 out side of town. Scheduled another appointment for Saturday at 10. I've spent 23 minutes waiting for someone to help me finish setting up the membership I already paid for and can't use till I get the access key. No one picks up the phone. You get texts that seem to come from a real person but they dont respond when you've scheduled the appointment. Can't enter the gym unless you have the access key. Probably the worst example of customer service I have experienced simply because I haven't received any. I've paid for this membership for almost two weeks now and haven't been able to use it once simply because ANYTIME fitness doesn't have ANY customer service or prioritization for onboarding on new members. I've called multiple times, not once did I get a call back, not even durring business hours. It's ridiculous to have someone pay for a service they can't even use temporarily. I didn't even get a free trial pass. If the office isn't open on weekends, then why allow scheduling. If some members can't make an appointment, why require a first time visit if your reps aren't even going to be available to provide assistance. It just makes no sense to me as to why it has been such an ordeal for me to try and out health first for once. By the time I'm writing this review I will have been here for almost half an hour with no kind of assistance. No text, no call, no app assistance. This experience has really discouraged me from using gym services, especially this gym and I was excited to become a member since it's 24 hours and they have many locations and amenities and I would have been happy to share a positive experience if I had one. Please. I just wanna work out any time I want. Not wait in membership limbo for the off chance I see one of these elusive representatives. Still waiting for my appointment when I post this too. Will be canceling. I have no choice. I'm not gonna pay for something that I can't use. New clients should be wary of singing up. I have worked in customer service for nearly my entire working life and I have never encountered a service that has such useless customer service protocol for the real working class of Tracy. Not even a live or ai chat box in sight. No signs life in the physical office, no call backs, no emails, not even a letter. Just a total waste of time, effort and hard earned funds. I will be canceling and seeking a full refund as no service towards my personally paid membership was met with follow through on the business behalf. They had a full business week to return my multiple calls and did not. Edit: I've attached their cancellation fine print. I've already sent my cancellation e-mail, looks like this gym I'll be a bigger ordeal than I thought. Next steps are finding the owners and finding out why this is so difficult.

There's also a yoga studio. Overall, this gym is really big and offers a lot. Unfortunately, we encountered an impolite new staff and the general manager came to talk with us even though we checked into the gym (scanned our cards) who thought we sneaked in and so he wanted to check and talk to me. He was polite, but we were on our way to the Bay area and that conversation delayed us quite a bit. There also was no apologies for the less than professional attitude and demeanor of the staff who we encountered, so it left a bad taste. Hopefully, our next visit will be better.

Staff members can't control every aspect; they are limited in their ability to manage the habitual poor habits of members who neglect to clean up after themselves. That's the core issue. Most people you see fail to wipe down the machines properly or return dumbbells to their designated racks after using them. This situation reflects the reality of what it's like to step into the gym. The clutter and mess you notice outside the staff's control are primarily due to members' lack of responsibility. Staff can only clean and maintain as frequently as they are able, but they can't monitor each individual to ensure they clean up after themselves. Consequently, some reviews seem petty and unnecessary. Let's shift our focus more toward what the gym actually offers and whether it benefits members. Instead of dwelling on negativity, why not start fresh this upcoming new year by fostering a more positive attitude? Call out members kindly when you see them making a mess or not re-racking weights properly. Instead of acting like keyboard warriors and blaming the gym, appreciate the staff's continuous efforts--such as their constant cleaning, vacuuming, dusting, and sanitizing. These efforts demonstrate that the staff are doing all they can, given that members don't cooperate by cleaning up after themselves. After all, what else can they reasonably do? Are they supposed to enter every stall and wipe down after each person? Let's be realistic and respectful of everyone's efforts. #nojudgmentzone
