Pickups (12-7-18): The Retron 77 plays Atari 2600 cartridges in 720p! Everything 30% off with my coupon.
    Ryan M.

Update (12-10-18): In my three-star review from December of last year, I complained about the customer service at this location, specifically one employee's lack of knowledge. My preferred retro gaming store remains the Game Over Videogames (sic) at Bandera and 1604, but my most recent experiences at this location warrant two extra stars. Last Friday, I took advantage of an email offer for 30% off everything in the store. I wasn't sure if the offer included new items, but the nerdy young lady (not an insult, for nerdiness often equates to an encyclopedic knowledge of video games) at the counter assured me it did. While I was browsing, she made conversation about her favorite consoles and encouraged me to check out the retro clone systems on sale behind the counter. This is why I patronize brick-and-mortar gaming stores; online shopping might be more convenient, but I value the face-to-face interaction. I ended up purchasing two loose Atari 2600 cartridges ("Entombed" and "Lost Luggage," both considered "scare" titles on AtariAge.com), a crappy shovelware game for the Wii U (I'm going for a complete Wii U collection...because I'm neuroatypical and *must* collect), and the pièce de résistance: A Retron 77 third-party system that plays Atari 2600/VCS cartridges in 720p! With the coupon, I saved over $30 total! Even without coupons and specials, the prices here are very competitive. Game Over has an impressive selection of reasonably priced games ranging from the late 70s to the current generation. In the past year, I've picked up several complete-in-box titles for the Atari 2600, Atari 5200, Intellivision, Colecovision, and Magnavox Odyssey 2. About a year ago, I was pleasantly surprised to find a copy of "Obelix" for the 2600 (considered "very rare" on AtariAge) for only $5.99 and a copy of "Red Alarm" (Virtual Boy) for only $7.99. These are competitive prices even by eBay standards. If you live near Blanco and 410, then this location is an easy recommendation. The store is a tad congested, but that is a minor complaint; bury me alive in a coffin full of dusty Intellivision cartridges--I won't complain! Skip the big-box retailers and online corporate behemoths and help support your local retro gaming stores.

    Portal 2

Way overpriced and they have boxes for systems on display, but it's just empty boxes and the unit isn't for sale. And $90 for portal 2? Who? Who would pay that? I didn't know they sold jokes too.

Don't let the haters fool you. This is perhaps the greatest blessing the retro game community has gotten here in San Antonio. I've known about this retro game store since the main Austin location was advertised by screwattack.com back in 2007. Me and my friend checked it out and we were surprised at the sheer amount of old games and accessories available. Checking out this location here in my hometown, I gotta say that though the actual size of the store is smaller than the main Austin store, they still manage to cram just as much stock. As I said, their selection of games from the Dreamcast days and older are just fantastic. The quality on these games, the return policy, the fact that many of these games come with their original box (even NES games) is a major plus when shopping here. They also tend to carry products you won't find anywhere else in town. The staff is also very friendly and will treat you like family if you allow them to. Not even most Gamestop employees will be as helpful and informative as these guys. It's a given that they won't know EVERY last thing about games but they know more than enough to answer any common inquiry and then some. And to defend these guys, the prices on their stock is very fair, despite what others may say. They may use flea markets and online stores as arguements, but you have to realize that you get what you pay for as well. It's no different than telling the same thing to the guy at the local Gamestop store when they're a legit business. You can buy online and get it for cheaper, no doubt. That's how everything is online. But you get the convienence of having a local store. In fact, I'm sure the same people who hate on this place for their prices, their selection of games, etc, are the same kind of people who say Gamestop needs to burn. So once again, don't let those arguements fool you. In essence, this store really does remind me of the Funcoland stores that once existed years ago; The laid back enviroment, the sheer amount of old and current games to choose from, not to mention the dvds, import games, museum, events and so much more they have. A top quality store by all means.

Walking into this store was like taking a step back into my childhood. They literally have everything if you're into old school gaming. There were aisles and aisles of NES, SNES, Genesis and even freakin' GameGear games! Also if you still revisit some of your old consoles but are in need of new cords or controllers, Game Over has tons of hardware for sale. Maybe it's because I've been a hardcore gamer for last 20 years or maybe it's because this place has a museum of gaming's past in the back but Game Over Videogames has got to be the best place ever. Seriously, if heaven is not like this, I'm going to be very disappointed.

    So many cute plush toy.

What a hidden treat for the nostalgic memories of playing videos games as a kid when first ninentodo and playstation was out. They have a great Mrs Pac Man that provides unlimited play within 15 minutes. Great for killing time.

As with the other CD Exchanges, you're almost guaranteed to find whatever it is you're looking for and so much more. As a fan of martial arts movies, I really enjoy this location as their selection has consistently been better and varied than some of the other locations'. The trade off is that their game selection isn't as impressive. That's not to say that it isn't good, there is in fact a lot to look through, I've just found more hidden gems at other locations. Though I typically skip over the front part if the store during my visits, it is worth mentioning that there is a TON of music to go through and an impressive amount of memorabilia such as action figures and Funko Pop!s, posters, bags and shirts, and a lot more. Everything is fairly priced and there have been instances where I've paid less than what I would have elsewhere or online. If you're a movie buff looking for a quiet place to pass the time, you absolutely have to visit the Movie Exchange.

There was sharpie on the discs, cases, and booklets on every single one of the games, but when we brought them back to return them a few days later they charged us a 10% restock fee because they 'weren't defective.' The guy DID tried to get the sharpie off, but outside of that the entire situation was just horrible business practice. If you shop here, open and check the PS2 cases before making a purchase. They openly admitted that they received some 200+ PS2 games that were all marked up. Hope this helps someone.

I really wish they had a larger selection, because it seemed more tea shop and less book store, but they're still several months old, so you never know... The cafe specializes mainly in tea and a selection of baked goods, and bread so fresh you can smell it when you walk in. I ordered a Neiman Marcus Cake (a custard cake) and a Cupid's Kiss (a fizzy delight made of sprite, strawberry, vanilla cold foam, and sprinkles). Staff is SUPER nice, one of the guys has a collection of DC figurines displayed, and a graphic novel collection. They also had a small tarot and oracle card collection. I almost bought one. Next time, perhaps. I hope to see more books the next time I visit. If you give them a heads up ahead of time, they'll even reserve a space for your book club. How neat is that? Overall, excellent vibes, excellent drinks.
