So I picked up a copy of earth worm Jim 2 Most "places" would sell it for 45-50 bucks, but I got mine for 35.99! It's hard not to burn a hole in your pocket here I live in San Antonio so it's quite a drive but it's totally worth it every day of the week! 10/10 definitely check it out. read more

D-Pad more like Dbag... they pay you the bottom dollar for your trade ins. And charge top dollar to the point that you can find games brand new at department stores for cheaper than Dpads used ones. read more

They really know how to burn their customers. I've been to D-Pad several times in the past and have had virtually no problems, so it was a huge shock to me when they sold my fiancé and I several marked up PS2 games without disclosing the issues prior to purchase. There was sharpie on the discs, cases, and booklets on every single one of the games, but when we brought them back to return them a few days later they charged us a 10% restock fee because they 'weren't defective.' The guy DID tried to get the sharpie off, but outside of that the entire situation was just horrible business practice. If you shop here, open and check the PS2 cases before making a purchase. They openly admitted that they received some 200+ PS2 games that were all marked up. Hope this helps someone. read more

I came in here a couple of weeks ago to inquire about a guitar hero or rock band set up for my Xbox X series. I asked the guy behind the counter, who had just got done with a transaction, my question about being compatible. He replied, " I don't know" and then proceeded to get on his phone. Six minutes went by with absolutely no interaction, no reply, no answer. That was the first time in my lifespan that I've ever seen somebody behave that way in a customer based business. Wow, this store is top notch. Being married to a gamer and myself being a board game player, this store has a little bit for everyone. A fantastic Nintendo switch selection! Especially for rare games. A wonderful board game selection, I was trying so hard not to buy all the beautiful versions of azul. Tons of retro console games. I love the art for sale. And everything is fairly priced. There are some talented artists in the area. They have a room on the side for gaming of all sorts. I appreciate that one of the employees invited me and my kids to sit and watch. They had a great time watching and cheering their favorite characters on. I dropped by this awesome retro video game store on a recent trip to New Braunfels. Chalk it up to intuition, claircognizance, or plain ol' serendipity, but I had just mentioned moments before driving by this place that I bet New Braunfels had a video game store. My dad and I were on our way to McAdoo's Seafood for lunch (review forthcoming), but I bookmarked D Pad with the intention of returning afterwards. I'm glad I did! Upon entering, I was pleased to see a display case containing roughly ten vintage gaming systems. I own every console ever released in North America (yes, I have a problem) but only a handful of Japanese consoles. Imagine my delight when I saw a complete-in-box (CIB) Nintendo Famicom (the Japanese version of the NES) available for the reasonable price of $199.99! Having just spent nearly $60 on fancy-ass oysters at McAdoo's, I couldn't quite justify the purchase, but I now regret my uncharacteristic frugality. If it's still there the next time I visit, it's mine! Although I grew up amid the third generation of game consoles, specifically the NES and SEGA Master System, I'm particularly drawn to second-gen gaming systems like the Atari 2600, 5200, and Intellivision. D Pad has several shelves dedicated to second-gen games, including a large number of CIB Intellivision titles for around $5. I own nearly every game released for that console (again, I have a problem), but a few rare titles have eluded me. I ended up picking up a sealed, CIB copy of "Ice Trek," a technically advanced title developed by Imagic, at the competitive price of $30. This title often sells for $40-$50 on eBay, so I was a happy Mongo! I was also pleased to find a loose copy of "Demolition Derby" for the obscure Radio Shack TRS-80 computer/gaming system! The cartridge that came bundled with my system is a bit wonky, so I decided to pick up this duplicate copy. It loaded like a charm when I got home! What impressed me the most about D Pad was its huge inventory of CIB NES and SNES games. Most kids in the 80s and 90s threw the boxes away, so I rarely see complete games out in the wild. The more common/less expensive titles (mainly sports games) were sitting on the shelves, but the more expensive games were stored behind lock and key. I spotted CIB copies of "Super Mario Bros. 3," "Metroid," "Super Metroid," and "Super Castlevania IV." These titles were listed for about $100-$200, making me thankful that I had the foresight (and autistic obsession) to retain my boxes as a kid! D Pad also has a healthy inventory of new and used Nintendo Switch titles, all priced competitively. I bought a new, sealed copy of "Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night," a superb "Metroidvania"-style game, for $30. If you're looking to beef up your Switch collection (and you should, seeing as it's one of the best consoles of all time), then D Pad is a no brainer. They have approximately thrice the selection of retailers like GameStop and Wal-Mart. If you live in New Braunfels, then you don't need me to recommend this place. If you're visiting from out of town, though, then you would do well to drop by. The selection is vast and varied, the store is well organized, and the nerdy employees (a term of endearment, I assure you) are eager to assist. Game Over Videogames in Helotes remains my favorite vintage gaming store, but D Pad is a close second. Highly recommended! read more

I so hate to bring my initial review down a couple of notches. But on my most recent trip to Dpad, the arcade games they had in the back were either moved (and not powered up) or just completely gone. I was really disappointed since I wanted to play NFL Blitz again. 50 cents a game was a steal even if it was an old game. The whole place seemed to be in disarray (even more so than the last visit) and I had no clue what they were trying to do inside. I couldn't ask the two employees I saw behind the counter because they were in deep conversation with some other folks. I don't believe they were trying to be rude but it was a definite heartbreak for me since it was cheap entertainment. It won't stop me from coming back though - I really want to see if they're just trying to re-arrange things inside but I just couldn't tell. read more

Finding a place in the New Braunfels area or the San Antonio area for that matter to locate rare or older video games is next to impossible. Much less finding a place to connect with other gamers for awesome gaming sessions. You can not only make good gaming friends here but they are always having parties and setting up multiplayer events in the store. The prices are great for the gaming sessions, and they have a really sweet collection of older game titles if you're looking for something very rare and don't want to go on eBay. They have every system you can think of here and it's nice being able to play the games in the store. The staff here are gamers just like you and really good at making this place a fun and safe gaming environment for everyone. For my money it's the best gaming joint in the area, and a great place to spend an evening just gaming and relaxing with other gamers. read more

They say you can never go back. Really? Time spent in front of a cathode ray tube defending planets or escaping Nazis (lots of Nazis). After a while you start to forget. Forget the time you relished defeating a level or beating as boss. This is THE place to recapture that. Wandering in here was like being surrounded by old friends. There is value in the past. Plugging one of these carts into a console is like living like you used to be so many years ago. Not a lot of things give you that. They have new stuff but my love is the old Nintendo carts - you would have to go to Japan to get the quality of kit that they offer here. If you're into vintage gaming and you're in the San Antonio/New Braunfels/Austin area, this needs to be one of your first stops. They have a good selection and the prices are very good. There are some competitors on the vintage scene who may boast a slightly better selection, but for price and a friendly knowledgeable staff, D Pad cant be beat. Some details on my visit: I purchsed game carts for genesis, snes, and super famicom. Was able to test the carts. I noted that one cart was priced $8 below the competition. Seriously, if you're new to vintage gaming, this might be a good place to start. read more
