I have been here a few times over the past 20 years. I have seen it evolve more in to more board games like MAGIC and Others. No longer video games, except a very small selection. Small section of Pokey Man Cards also. Store not really my taste now, but the new generation of kids like it and seem to have a blast there. So glad to have in our community. My review is based entirely on my Magic: The Gathering experiences here. They run commander, pre-release, pioneer, and some other formats on an ongoing and rotating basis. I've been going to the shop since I moved to the area and really enjoy the shop. I've seen lots of diversity in the participants of the events, and the players at the shop are generally very interested in just enjoying their time and ensuring everyone else does too. The Game Master crew (Justin, Christian, Lilly) are all very friendly and helpful. My one complaint is that you can't easily find what's in stock without asking directly (to which they're very responsive - in person, over the phone, or on their discord). I'd love to see a better on-line inventory; but I understand the overhead that causes and will forgive em for it :) read more

Not very good for retro games when collecting. Although they have a small selection to choose from some games are extremely overpriced considering the actual market value. You are better off buying from eBay. This store is mostly for "card collectors" such as magic the gathering etc. read more

Stopped in to see how the shop was Got in and some guy was vacuuming with no regards to customers almost tripping me twice. Old guy was nice then none NONE NONE of the vintage games were priced and they had to "look them up in our database" i.e. Price charting lol then he the vacuum kid yelled at me about bringing a drink in with me! Upon looking up games and Us Passing on games due to being retail + 20% or so... I was ready to leave so... I said hey guys Y'all ready to roll to which the shopkeep says very rudely "we ain't no flea market garage sale so... If you were looking for a bargain it ain't here" so... Overall this shop is balls I wouldn't go in there ever again rude, vacuuming in the middle of the day???? And and then to just be an ass to new customers cmon man!!! The store appears to focus primarily on deck-building games like Magic: The Gathering, plus a small selection of board games and used video games. They may participate in D&D organized play but the selection of RPGs is very limited. The space itself is fairly small, dominated by several long foldup tables in the middle for use in playing and tournaments. If I were a MtG fan, I'd probably like this place more. But as an RPG player, I felt like this place didn't meet my needs at all and I'd be better off going someplace else. read more

First let me make one thing clear. I am married to a Dungeons and Dragons/Pathfinder Dungeon Master. The nerd/geek/whatever culture does not bother me in the least. We are both gamers. This store has some neat vintage stuff and you could probably find stuff here that'd be hard to find elsewhere. For that I will give them a star. That said, I was absolutely disgusted by this store. There were food and drinks randomly everywhere. There were piles of boxes and random junk just scattered all over the place. It's been a few months since I went. Maybe they have cleaned up, but it was just unsanitary and gross. It's not your basement; it's a retail store. Make it appear to have some organization and cleanliness and people may be more inclined to come in that aren't total slobs. Sorry to be harsh! read more

I am writing this review because I had a very good time at this store. They are very helpful and answer all my questions. Even if they didn't have the card I was looking for they make recommendations to help you find cards that you might like. They also have a wide variety of cards to choose from. I recommend this store for people who want more cards and games. read more

It's kind of dirty and all but hey, him being an only child, gives him a chance to socialize with kids "like him" with all that Yugioh (spelled wrong I am sure) stuff. The community here is excellent! Especially for Edh, force of will, and vanguard! The card prices are some of the best in town, and their board game supply is huge! Definitely a must for any gamers on the east side of town. read more

I have been here three times since the beginning of December 2017, when I first heard of the place. I visited the place once for me and a couple of times for gifts for friends and family. I play Magic the Gathering and X-Wing miniatures. The X-wing pieces are being phased out, but they have all the MTG stuff you need with singles in their case. They also sell video games and accessories, but I am not into console games so I could not tell you what they have. I dealt with two different employees while there and they were both cordial and very helpful, saying hello as I entered though they were with another customer. I will definitely go back. My husband buys Magic cards here constantly. They always have the newest releases and the prices are the same as Wal-Mart and Target. Staff is usually friendly but there is usually a wait. When I have gone in to buy gifts the sales people are always helpful. We do only use this store for Magic cards, not sure about other games. read more

The guys at Game Master have been helping me with my game rentals and purchases for the last few years now. They are always eager to help me get whatever it is that I might need. They have new and used game systems, accessories, and games that are reasonably priced. I got tired of renting games from other places and having them not work due to scratches on the discs. These guys have a customer base of people who care about gaming and they keep their rentals in good shape so you don't have to make two trips. They also carry some board games but I'm not sure which ones since I'm not much of a board gamer. This is a great place to go if you want to support a local Rowlett small business. read more

This is the place to be for your gaming and trading card needs. The staff is very helpful, it's definitely got the local business feel when you go inside. They have a very large selection of games, cards, and other mechandise. If you like older games, you'll feel at home with quite an impressive amount of hard to get titles. They have a very cool video game renting service, that is perfect for trying titles you might be interested in. It also has a pretty good selection of harder to find games in the rental line-up as well. If you're more into the trading card side of the business, this is the perfect shop to be a regular at. I've never been with a more friendly community. Even though I myself only play Magic: The Gathering here, when the other crowds come in I can tell they are just as friendly. It's not the most competitive shop around, but among the regulars you will find a handful of high level players to challenge your skills when you do well in the tournaments. Their prices are also the most reasonable I have seen in the few card shops I tried out before deciding this was the best back in October. They base their card prices off of the online average prices, or only 50 cents more. Which when you think about it, is ridiculous for a local shop. It's the price of online for the convience of having what you want right away. They have a very strict theiving policy, and since I have been here I have not seen a single instance of theft. In fact the store is so honest that I've seen someone leave their deck on the window ledge OUTSIDE OF THE STORE. The store owner, Mike knew exactly whose it was just from the deck box, and put it inside for him to come get. I took my PS3 40GB to Game Master of Rowlett, Tx for a console diagnostic. My console gives me 3 beeps and flashing red light. That I know, but I wanted to make sure the components were working like the power supply, the fan, and the CD drive. I wanted a report that would tell me those components were working correctly and what I got from them was a 2 liner on my work order about said, "motherboard yellow light". That's not a diagnostic, that's information that you get from Sony for free. Game Master of Rowlett is the worst play on this planet. Do not give Game Master any of your business...beware read more

I go here all the time to enter tournaments. It is a lot of fun. I really like most of the staff. It is a place where a lot of guys spend a lot of time so it does have a male odor. Overall it is an enjoyable place. Good for us TCG players to hang out at. read more

Poor customer service. I purchased 2 used games on Sunday (Super Nin, PS3) and was told there was a 30 day guarantee. When I got home, the Nint game wasn't the game I thought it was and my son played the PS3 game for 5 minutes and didn't like it so we decided to take them back and purchase a different (more expensive) game on Tuesday. I was told "I don't think I can do that (while looking at the floor and glancing up at someone sitting at a station) if there's nothing wrong with them". I explained the situation and after hemming and hawing, was told they could give me trade in value. These were used games to start with with an additional 5 minutes of use put on them. We left without purchasing anything. I have been in retail manager for a long time and this was extremely poor customer service, apathy actually. We like the store, been shopping there for YEARS on and off but will not go back, too much competition out there to have to deal with this kind of poor service. read more
