When I walked into Darkside Games, I wasn't greeted. One employee was helping a customer with a trade of multiple Pokémon cards, which is understandable, but I stood by the display case looking at Magic cards for quite a while without any acknowledgment or indication I'd be helped. During that time, another customer who seemed like a regular came in and was immediately helped, while I continued waiting. A second employee later came out from the back, walked past me without saying anything, and started working without checking if I needed help. After about 15-16 minutes, I finally asked about a single card I was looking for and got a dismissive response. Overall, the experience felt unwelcoming and not very inviting compared to other TCG shops I've visited.

They have two separate areas with gaming tables - a smaller section in the front near the entrance and a larger section in the back with a bit more decor and ambiance. They hold weekly structured MTG meetups and for other games as well (for a small fee) and their event schedule is easily accessed on their website. We came in with my son in search of MTG cards and had fun browsing their selection. Staff were friendly and knowledgeable. Prices were on par with other gaming stores in the area. Store and play areas were clean with some interesting custom decor items. They're located in a shopping plaza with plenty of parking. Would be a great place to host your own card gaming sessions or join an established local specialty card gaming community!

The funny thing is there are actually closer card shops to us, but we still choose to make the drive here because the prices are consistently better. I've compared them against a couple of other local shops and even many vendors at Frank & Sons, and A&N usually comes out ahead. What really stood out during our latest visit was how fair they were with store credit. I brought in some cards from my personal collection that I was willing to part with, and they offered a value that felt reasonable and honest. That store credit quickly turned into Pokémon packs for the kids, which immediately made their day. Seeing my kids walk out of the store excited and holding their new haul reminded me why we keep coming back. Good prices, fair trade values, and a family friendly experience go a long way. We'll be back once we've worked our way through this stack of packs.

Staff here is great. They're friendly and very informative which is always a nice sight to see for newcomers. In the back, you'll find many tables where people visit to play all types of games. Ranging from board games, cards, DnD, and list goes on. Best part is that you can try all types of games for free. I'd say the tables could use some cleaning but very spacious overall. Parking is out in the back but it's pretty limited. Street parking is also available but watch out for time slots. A few weeks ago I was looking to get some games to play with my family. My sister gave me 3 recommendations (Ito, Things in Rings, Hot Streak). I walked in and, after taking a few rounds through the densely stocked rows and shelves, and, not finding any of them, asked for help. They had two of the games so I got them. We've played Things with Rings (basically figuring out Venn diagram categories) several times at family game night and are starting to get the hang of it. It's a large shop (especially for games and figurines), and they host events too. Definitely a fun place to browse and get new games.

Bad service and poor communication…read more I've been trying to catalogue my MTG collection lately. I drove 40 min to get to this shop because they have a machine that scans your cards. I paid the shop to rent the machine and waited for 2 hours. Then the staff told me "We made a mistake setting this up. We can't give you the scanned info, but leave your cards behind and your email address, and we can send them over. You'll just need to scan this thing we send you." I was uncomfortable leaving my cards behind because they're important to me. But I didn't want to walk away empty-handed. So I decided to trust them and I left my cards behind. I didn't hear anything for 4 days. I had to call them and they said "Oh the employee you were talking to got sick. If you want to pick up your cards you can do that though." I asked "How about scanning my cards?" and they said "We'll message the sick employee and call you back to let you know what he says". I waited 3 more days and they didn't contact me at all. I realized they weren't going to reach out to me to resolve the issue, so I had to drive down to the store to demand my cards back. I don't know who the person running the back of the shop is. Maybe the manager. Maybe the owner. All I knew is that they had context on the whole situation and knew that I had returned to get my cards. They didn't bother to come over to talk to me. They didn't even give me eye contact. They didn't make even a single attempt at improving the situation. Not even an offer for store credit. Not even a sorry. They just shrugged and yelled across the room "machine's broken". Then they went back to puttering around and left another employee to deal with me. This other employee had no context on the situation. All she could do was hand me a cash refund and give me a confused "Sorry...?" I was treated like I was an annoyance. Someone who'd go away eventually if you ignored them. Not a respected customer who just wanted to do business. I'm not mad that the machine was allegedly broken. I'm only slightly mad that the employees aren't trained on how to use the machine. I'm frustrated that I paid for a service and they didn't bother seeing the job through to the end. They didn't communicate when they decided to give up. I trusted them with my personal card collection and they betrayed that trust. I don't even know if I have all my cards back, but I'll never know. Save yourself the stress.

Sure, it was pretty far away (Glendale) from Riverside, but I always enjoyed the trek and good times. Fortunately, Kyle, opened the Game Nights Cafe about 1.5 years ago as of this writing (01/01/2025), and the two-level shop and gamespace provides games to purchase, an impressive library of games to play in-house, and necessary hobby materials, such as Citadel paint, brushes, tools, and even a nifty airbrush set for about $70. After two visits here I'm Reviewing the shop, setting, atmosphere, and special New Year's Eve event. First, my long-time gaming buddy happened upon the store while antique shopping across the street. While Gameology in Upland has been our go-to, the initial appeal was the later hours of operation, especially on Sundays, the day we typically line up. There's a game cover fee, a reasonable $6 per player and good for the entire day. Otherwise, as Kyle mentioned to me, people would stay all day and not even purchase anything. Purchases, however, do offset the cover charge. The basement is where the bright track lights make the full-lenghth space inviting. Many hundreds of games line one wall. All are available for anyone wanting to play. And a significant number of tables and comfortable chairs are another draw. There's also a sizeable space upstairs adjacent to the retail area for games. Kyle invited us to come back for New Year's Eve for food, beverages, and a generous playtime that surpassed 2am. For $40 I was down, especially when I saw how much food was provided. A fullscale Middle Eastern feast, as well as charcuterie, sides, and desserts. Wow! The crowd was also fun and my group quickly befriended another and we played lots of fun games that could support 6 players, including Heat, Acquire, and Inca Gold. All three were in the extensive library previously referenced. In short, they host many events for Magic the Gathering (MTG), Dungeons and Dragons, open play nights, and hopefully more NYE celebrations. Finally, they also have a lot of games and things marked down for quick sales, so consider browsing. Not far away is the Glass House, and somewhere close by is Zoink Records.
