There is one lady in kids club that neglected my baby while I was working out with my husband one night on a Tuesday. My son was in there and told me all about what happened it had to be the other child care worker in the room for my 11 month old at the time to get comforted after leaving her in the car seat for fifteen to twenty minutes. The director Sarah takes up for her for this action as well. Now the other child care workers are amazing but it takes one person to ruin a good thing. I no longer can workout with my husband at night time because of her leaving her in her car seat crying and then now I can't workout in the mornings because of her as well. So I pretty much can't workout now and will have to drive twenty minutes to go to the CLIPPARD YMCA. She has shorter dark roots with blond hair and she's tan and about 5 ft something. Don't risk it when she's there.my son also told me she wasn't super mean to all the other kids in the room as well and not just my baby. read more

This place needs lots of maintenance and lots of cleaning. The steam room is horrible. There's black mold growing everywhere, and the sauna is also pretty filthy. The heating element is set at 140 degrees, not hot enough to kill the bacteria , I really hope management do something about it. read more

If you're coming from out of town, be prepared for some hiccups. It took a while to get us signed in at the front desk and then again to get our son signed in for child care. However, I enjoyed this place! The gym felt new - it had a good selection, large windows for natural light and everything felt clean! The child care was hard to find - down a hallway, down steps and down another long hallway. But it wasn't very crowded at all. There was plenty of space for ten (or so) kids that were there. If you've got an only kid and you're a stay a home mom like me, it might take a couple visits for them to get used to it. And depending on what staff you get, some are better than others with having that magical calming effect. read more

I have been attending this ymca for almost a year and I love the services that ymca offer for me and my childrens day to day activities but the lady that is the manager here is very judge mental , rude, fake (which means talks behind my back) and gives me such bad vibes every day based on pure judgement of my appearance. I have never done anyone wrong there and have always respected everyone and everything around me and so has my children everyone there loves me and the kids but her and she lets me know with her body language approach to my entrance and entire being that based on nothing other than judgement she doesn't like me . and it just makes the energy instantly sour when I come to do my daily workout! moral of story please treat people the way u want to be treated and stop judging people u don't know where they come from or what they are going through day to day and you should only want to bring light to anyone's life u come in contact with. i hope one day u will find your kindness and self respect so u can lose all judgement and become selfless as the person is u r judging read more

I just turned 30. For me, this was a big deal. I hate to say it was a mid-life crisis, because that would mean I'll die when I'm 60. But still, it was tough for me. As part of my realization that I was growing older and there was nothing I could do about it, I decided that there was, in fact, something I could do. I could get my ass off the couch and start getting in shape. To that end, my family joined the YMCA. We decided on the Y for several reasons. It is very close to home. It offers activities for the entire family. It has onsite child care. And my wife gets a great discount through her job. As a Y member I have access to all the greater Cincinnati Y's, but unfortunately I've only been to this one. With that said, I've been very pleased with everything I've seen here. It has a huge outdoor pool with a slide and a water playground area, too. Inside they have a locker room, heated pool, hot tub, exercise room, 3 racquetball courts, a full size gym, and numerous classrooms for various activities. The exercise room is well stocked with all the necessary machines to get a great workout whether you are looking for cardio or strength training. It also has a full complement of free weights. The staff is always happy to help and the child care staff in particular seems to enjoy what they do. My daughter is always excited to go "play" at the Y while mom and dad get some exercise. Jason, in the exercise room, is always good for a quick tip on what exercises to do, and the proper way to do them. He is a great resource to help with your workout. I've been really pleased with my YMCA membership and I love that we have such a great resource in my neighborhood. Interesting note for this Y. This is where the award-winning Cincinnati Synchrogators synchronized swimming team practices. I've been a member at the YMCA here for 5 years. This is a few blocks from my house, has a great new(er) pool outside, recently underwent a color and paint update/revival. It is a generally solid facility though not super huge, sprawling, or fancy; it certainly gets the job done. The fitness staff is mostly hands off, which I enjoy, but they do interact with customers when they are asked for assistance, which is nice to know. In lieu of staff/trainers there is the option to use the ActixTrax system, which seems relatively popular for assistance with goals and workouts. I've never taken the time to be 'oriented' so can't say much about that myself. The indoor pool runs warm- for the 'silver sneakers' crew I guess, but I used to swim here often. There is synchronized swimming in the evening so it has to be early in the day which my schedule doesn't currently allow. I tend to come to the Y later in the evening and enjoy being one of a few there. The weekends and earlier are too crowded for me. That is the way I feel about ALL facilities, it'snot a criticism here. My only real complaint about this Y is that I don't much like the pace, selection, or timing of the classes offered with my membership. In fact, I drive 30+ minutes from Zumba quite often to go to another Y or just go to the Western Sports Mall where the challenge is worth taking a class for. Every experience but one here has seemed slow, dumbed down, and not worth my time at Gamble-Nippert, I'm envious of other facilities with more rigorous instructors/classes, but just pay someone else for that. The pricing structure for the YMCA used to be based on family size and income, but is now under a 'Membership for All' program I like this, but seriously need to 'reapply' because I easily pay twice as much as the SO with similar resources. The staff here is nice, the facility is clean, and machines and decor were recently updated. For a gym up the street, I can't complain. read more

The preschool at the Gamble-Nippert YMCA (GNY) is excellent. For this review I will use preschool/school/center interchangeaby. It is located within the Y in a dedicated hallway for preschool, before and after school programs, and kids camp. It is not a true daycare program as they do not accept children who are in diapers. The GNY preschool is my second experience with a preschool program with my boy. He was expelled from another preschool and we were lucky enough to have him accepted to the GNY program. The program is currently rated three stars on the Step Up to Quality rating. The classrooms have a low teacher to student ratio, well above the state minimum. The staff in the classrooms are dedicated to the kids and several have been involved with the Y Preschool programs for many years. They offer swimming lessons once a week for the kids. Snacks and meals are provided. They work a preschool curriculum with the intent of kindergarten preparedness, practicing letters, numbers and writing. The preschool curriculum is held during standard school year months and then turns into a summer camp. The preschool is open from 630 am to 6 pm, which is pretty standard for the area. It is located in a neighborhood, off Montana Avenue and near the Westwood Elementary School and Rec Centers. Montana Avenue is pretty busy in the mornings and I soon learned that although it is the shortest distance to the highway to get to work, going an alternate route was faster. The cost was inexpensive, much less than the private preschool my son attended. When you add in the extra attention, the cost of the GNY center is crazy affordable. There are two small playgrounds in very good condition (one is new) outside for the kids to play on on nice days. An inside area with mats and other soft tens is available for indoor freeplay on bad weather or cold days. The best part of the GNY preschool is the director, Becca. My son has ADHD. He was expelled from a previous preschool where he attended from infancy for his ADHD behaviors. Becca did so much to help us find community resources. When my boy's behaviors were challenging, she called in a preschool behavior expert to evaluate him and the classroom. She and the teachers willingly adopted recommendations from his evaluation at Childrens's Hospital Center for ADHD. She went out of her way to assist our family as we worked through my boy's diagnoses. It is funny. The first school and day care program we attended for 4 years and did not have a sense of caring or community. That school had a beautiful exterior, brand new toys and equipment. It also was for profit, jamming in the maximum number of children with the least number of adults possible. We were actually pretty happy to leave. We hadn't left earlier simply from pure laziness. At the GNY, I'll be honest, at first look it doesn't look like much. The rooms and the toys and equipment inside are a bit run down. But the exterior and interior and freshness of the toys are not what makes a fantastic preschool. The people caring for your child are what makes or breaks a preschool. And the GNY is the best option in area when it comes to the people you choose to care for your child. Our son's increase in happiness when he started at GNY made me feel guilty for keeping him at the other place for so long. I really di not realize how unhappy we both were until we moved to GNY. Just to show I'm not some sycophant, I will give a few cons. I have already mentioned the toys. Everything is clean and safe, but the center needs some newer toys. The parking is sometimes a problem, especially at pickup. The preschool is located within a busy community Y and the parking is nuts. There are a few dedicated spots on the side for pickup and drop-off of kids, but they are not enforced. The Y also has before and after school care for two local elementary schools with transportation provided. There are a few closer parochial schools to the Y and I wish they would also offer transportation for the before and after school programs at these schools as well. That seems sort of shortsighted to me (specifically St Catharine of Siena and Our Lady of Lourdes). read more

I have been a member of this YMCA off and on for over twenty years. The off and on comes from the amount of time it takes for them to repair broken equipment. Something I am using breaks, I get frustrated and cancel my membership and go somewhere else. The people are great, the amount of programs are excellent, but when things break, you need patience. read more
