I'm so grateful that friends and neighbors recommended Kennedy Heights Montessori Center when our…read moreoldest was nearing preschool age. The staff is loving and well educated, the community of families is tight knit and diverse, and my children have not only gotten a solid foundation for future academic success-- they're also learning to be good citizens of the world. KHMC truly follows the philosophy of Maria Montessori and encourages children to talk through their conflicts and share the "peace rose," for example, rather than forcing an insincere apology, which preschoolers aren't developmentally ready for. The focus on letting kids have some autonomy also really fires up their curiosity about learning. I can't imagine a better start for my kids in their educational journey.

From the educational aspect, they are good. I recommended my daughter enroll my grandson here…read more Diversity could be better, especially with the staff. One Black male teacher was there for only a short time. He resigned due to the way the staff reacted to the black male children when they were not acting "perfect". The front office staff is extremely rude, with exception to those they "really" like. There is a noticeable difference in the communication/treatment toward those that receive county funding (vouchers). It is really disheartening that as an organization, there is a vast difference based on paying status. It should be about the children, giving them the foundation. Not on how the funds are being received by the parents.

My wife found this little preschool about a week-and-a-half before their school year started. Now…read moreexactly how and where she found it I'm not sure, but I'm sure glad she did. This tiny, private, church-sponsored preschool is nothing like what you might expect. We sent our two oldest here, and we plan on sending our two youngest as well. From the outside, it has the appearance of a 19th century one-room school house. But of course that's now what it is on the inside. There is a large activity room when you first enter (the Big Room), but the first floor also has an administrative office as well as two classrooms. The basement has been converted and has a storage area and two additional classrooms as well. And outside behind the school is a nice sized playground area that's perfect for kids of that age. The staff here is amazing. All of the teachers are certified, so they're trained and know what they're doing. They keep up to date on the latest trends and research that takes place in regards to preschool education methods, practices, and philosophies. And they're also just wonderful with the kids. I've heard stories where parents weren't all that pleased with a church-affiliated preschool because the teachers were basically church members either volunteering or helping out. Thankfully this was not the case for us. The education here is first rate and top quality. There are three different choices in regards to class time. Full week (five days), three days, or two days. And of course they're all half days so it's either a morning or afternoon session. There is no all day preschool. There are numerous activities that take place throughout the year that parents can come and enjoy, and there are a number of opportunities where parents can volunteer to help chaperone small little trips that classes take. When our two oldest started kindergarten, their teachers told my wife and I that they were so far ahead of the other students in their respective classes. And as smart as I know my kids to be, I also know that their time at the Village Preschool was a direct result of this as well. It's a wonderful place to send you kids, and if you're looking, I say look no more. Mahalo, and enjoy.
