We visited Gambino Vini while in Sicily as a stop on cruise into Messina. We had heard from friends that this was the best place to visit in Taormina. Before we arrived in Italy, we visited the website and didn't see anywhere to make reservations. We took a chance and arrived early and they were so kind to accommodate us despite being otherwise fully booked with tours. The entire experience was delightful. The food and wine were delicious and the service was educational, warm, and welcoming. Plus, best views in the area on the slopes of Mount Etna. We visited the Gambino Winery on a Sunday afternoon. It has become a really popular winery these days. It had gorgeous views and we had a very informative tour. The tour guide did talk way too long. We loved our wine tasting with Nino. We are giving this winery 5 stars because of him. He took excellent care of our group. This was an amazing wine experience. Am I now a member of Gambino Vini? Yes. Shipment number two is on its way to me as we speak and i've been out for weeks, so the timing is great. Gambino was highly recommended, and for good reason. It was a beautiful, windy drive up, and the views were spectacular. The moment we walked in we were handed a glass of wine, the pre-tasting, pre-sitting glass of wine. It was pretty busy as I assume it almost always is, so they had 30+ glasses going at the same time. Definitely a great start. Our tasting was phenomenal. The pace was perfect, the food delicious, and wine spectacular. The food and the wine together were paired really well, which made the whole experience that much better. We could get more of any food we wanted, which was good because they were pouring our "tastes" pretty generously. The waitstaff was super nice and really attentive (and very knowledgable), and made the whole experience that much more enjoyable. It was hard to pick just a few to get in my club shipment, bur we landed on one white and one red that were our favorites. Other than that...I would love to go back. We came here with a tour group and got an overview of both the Gambino winery AND the history of wine making in Sicily before being escorted downstairs (but not all the way downstairs) to a private room for a wine tasting and cannelloni making. I mean ... if that isn't five stars right there, what is? Perhaps it's the gorgeous views? That's just running up the score. The staff were delightful all around - we had one person who provided both the overview of the winery and the overview of our meals, the wines, and the dessert while everyone else was attentive throughout. I went hiking with a tour group down Mt. Etna and visited Gambino Vini for a fantastic experience. When we arrived at Gambino Vini, we were greeted by friendly staff and started with some refreshing white wine. Our host then gave us a history lesson about that region of Sicily and how grapes are harvested there. The views of the valleys and backdrop to the Mediterranean Sea are breathtaking. After our educational talk with a view, he (I can't remember his name) took us downstairs where "all the magic happens" with a technical lesson on how the wine is made with the vast array of wine barrels, stainless steel wine tanks, and bottling process. We had a nice dining experience and tasted some great reds. I bought a 2015 Red blend for 44 euros, but it can't be bought in the US, and for the flavor, it was a great deal. Stopped by here on our way from Taormina to Catania. Unfortunately restaurant was booked and wouldn't accept walk-in for lunch. Still amazing hosts. Poured us wine immediately when we entered on the house and a worker gave us a quick tour of the vineyard and history free of charge. The vineyard is huge. We left early since we went on to get lunch elsewhere but would definitely come back with a reservation, or to just try wines. read more

A must visit winery! We visited on a Saturday afternoon and were greeted by friendly staff and a welcome glass of wine. We were seated at a beautiful table by the window with panoramic views of the vineyards, mountains and ocean. Spectacular! The service was impeccable; Francesco was knowledgeable and answered every question. We tasted 8 wines (4each white/red) and were quite pleased with all. We have lived in Napa California and have a wine cellar of 4,000 bottles....wine is our passion and we have very discerning tastes. We were not rushed and were able to relax while tasting. When we arrived after a long day we were greeted by Mr Gambino at the door. He was gracious and made us feel very welcome upon our visit. We were given a glass of "welcome wine" and proceeded to our table. Our hostess Hannah was wonderful and was a lot of fun. We were seated at a beautiful table overlooking the vineyard and our afternoon was filled with laughter fun and of course good wines. Each course that was presented had a different wine to pair with the food. We were made to feel at home. Some of the wines were not to my liking but my travel companions made up for it where I left off. The food was delicious and very little was left on the plates. After each wine tasting the bottle was left at the table (except the last wine) but we were told to ask for more if we'd like. The surroundings were beautiful and it was very serene compared to the drive there. I would go back any day! read more

In the last six months, Gambino Vineyards moved its headquarters to a large modern complex on the slope of Mt. Etna overlooking Linguaglossa and the Inonian Sea. The view is spectacular. Besides being the headquarters for the firm, the complex also offers a restaurant/wine tasting experience. For 20 Euro per person, you can taste six wines and engage in a five course meal including antipasto, soup, entree, desert and coffee. The experience is very positive and the food is traditional Sicilian. As a part of a tour of the Mt. Etna region, this should not be missed. read more

The winery was such an amazing experience. The wine tasting was 25 euro per person and the wine itself was pretty inexpensive for the quality. A tour of the winery is included in the wine tasting. During the wine tasting they provide local foods to include cheese, olives, dried tomatoes, mushrooms, salami, sausage, and couscous to compliment the wines. The winery sits on Mt. Etna and the grapes for the wines are grown there and in another location. The drive up there and the views from the winery is beautiful. Definitely worth the experience. read more

Does anyone read yelp reviews for places outside of the US? I'm a little skeptical about them. Like, you're guaranteed to find a place that people love, which is the point of review sites, but for yelp international you'll likely to finding a place that other American tourists love. That's not necessarily what one hikes over to Etna wine country to do. THAT SAID. This place is so, so great. Yes, the building itself is a very nice "modern wine tourism" kind of looking box that offers a nice view down the mountain. Way down. Most of the road isn't steep, but drive carefully, because the last push up the hill is kind of intense. We didn't entirely know where we were going. In retrospect, it's a wonder we reached the place at all instead of getting tempted by the many other winery signs we saw along the way. Don't derail your trip, though. The wines at Gambino Vini are fantastic, balanced and vibrant and everything you want from your Etna wines. The tasting experience is even better. Employees are friendly and knowledgeable. Two of the men working in the room spoke excellent English; a third pretended I spoke Italian well enough to be understood, which was super nice of him. They bring out tranches of antipasti to complement each pouring, while reassuring you that you can ask for refills. Of anything. Including wine. If you're with a group of people who aren't amazing at self-discipline, you need to designate a driver. ...we, uh, didn't need refills. Though I might have taken a couple for one of the reds and one of the whites. Unless we visited on an unusually generous day, the basic table setting is preposterously generous. The food and wines are so good that you're almost insulted by how large the portions are. This was on one of the best examples of hospitality I have ever experienced. They greeted us with a glass of wine right when we walked through the door, and then kept exceeding our expectations. The wine was great and they really explained how they produce it and why they go through so much effort to make such beautiful wines. The views were breathtaking, the dining room had high ceilings and windows in all directions, and Nino (I wish I was more confident about that actually being his name) made us feel so welcomed and relaxed. We left completely satisfied as they gave us tons of cheese, food and wine for our money, and we bought 2 bottles of wine to take home. I would recommend to anyone in eastern Sicily as this was one of the highlights of our whole trip to Italy. read more

This is by far one of the best places to visit while in Italy. My girlfriend and I decided to go after climbing mount Etna, we made it there after they'd just closed but the workers went above and beyond to make sure we got the chance to enjoy the wine, cheese, and olives. I don't mean to sound funny but the food brought tears to my eyes, that's how good it was. The drive to the location was beautiful, you pass through a small quiet town rich with history.
