Was recommended to try Galyn's by our Oli Trolley driver Jim. And he was right, this is the best restaurant in Bar Harbor! Our visit started off great as we were sat in the window with a view of the harbor. It did feel like we were on display as those walking by stared at us but I didn't mind. Started with the bread service and was blown away! The house dressing was the best. I will forever be dreaming of it! I had the Lazy Lobster which was incredible! Loved that I didn't have to hassle with remit the shell. Perfectly cooked. Husband had the halibut special which was perfectly cooked and had a wonderful pineapple salsa. For dessert we shared a piece of cheesecake which was generously sized for two to easily share. When the bill came I was very pleasantly surprised as it was much less than I was expecting. We had a fantastic meal here on our second and final night in Bar Harbor. The waiter was highly attentive, my cocktail was excellent, and the meals were delicious. I had a seafood/lobster stew and my wife had halibut. Both entrees were excellently prepared. It was my birthday, and I got an "on the house" crème brûlée with a candle. We've eaten at many restaurants from New York to San Francisco and all sorts of places in between. This one was a highlight. read more

We had the worst experience at this restaurant today. The food and service were fine. The issue was that I was there in the afternoon -1pm on a Friday in Sep - with my family (including my 2 yr old and 4 year old). Apparently my 2 year old who is very excited and happy - was being too loud for some people at a neighboring table. The manager or whoever he was came over while we were paying the check and asked if my kids were 'going to be ok'. To which I said we are leaving soon he's just being happy.  When we got up to leave, the people who clearly complained started clapping and the manager was very dismissive of us and came to the complaining party's defense as if my kid was really disruptive which anyone with kids knows 2 yr old can scream from happiness and that's just how they are. This place has a children's menu and offered high chairs and never said it wasn't a good time for kids- again it was 1pm on a Friday afternoon in September. I left in tears and the manager and staff were rude and dismissive when we left.  I left feeling totally humiliated and feel like that was ok from the staffs point of view that we felt this way. My husband lost his cool when we were leaving and that was not acceptable. But the staffs attitude toward us and the rudeness when we were leaving and voiced our feeling was also not acceptable.    This was a lunchtime crowd in jeans and tee shirts. If this is not a place for kids they need to tell people and should never have seated us. To take the party's side who didn't approve of my young child being there and basically getting us out of there as fast as possible was so awful and terrible service. I'm humiliated and I clearly feel the staff is ok with this as long as I left with my kids.  I doubt this review will matter to the restaurant. But I wanted people to be warned DO NOT GO TO THIS PLACE WITH YOUR KIDS- KIDS ARE NOT WELCOME. Kids are kids and if you have a kids menu and offer to seat a party with kids (again at lunchtime on a Friday in a tourist town) maybe be a little accepting of the fact and possibly manage the other party to say 'they are leaving soon' instead of ruining the last 5 minutes we had in your restaurant by making fun of us and humiliating and dismissing us. read more

We arrived at the same time a cruise ship disembarked in Bar Harbor, so the streets were busy. The restaurant was able to seat us very quickly. We started with a blueberry lemonade cocktail (that was fresh and outstanding) and the lobster bisque. The bisque was very good. Not the best I have ever had, but very good...you will not be disappointed. For entrees, we had a whole main lobster and a combo plate that had lobster tails, scallops, and a crab cake. The whole lobster was out of this world. They crack it just enough in the kitchen to keep you from really having to work for the meat. Sides were a B+, but nothing could beat the star of the show lobster. The combo platter was great, but left my husband wishing for more lobster. He said it was the best crab cake he had ever had...not fishy like they sometimes can be. All in all, it was an excellent choice for lunch. Highly recommend! read more

Ate dinner on a Monday night after getting off a sunset cruise. Location is great... super convenient and close to the water. That was about the only positive.... Food was not good. Our party was split across two tables, and one of the servers was good, the other was really bad and was too busy prepping for closing to take care of his customers. Ordered lobster fettuccine, seafood fettuccine, and a lobster roll that was flavorless and meat was overcooked. We were on the 2nd to last day of our trip and have experienced a lot of really good food in Maine, but this was by far the worst. Seasoning was non-existent. read more

Sublime oysters on a half shelf! One of the best oysters we've ever had in the US and we've eaten in Seattle and TX. They were so fresh with the briny taste but not too salty. Wish we ordered more. We tried their lobster bisque and crab staffed mushrooms too. Both very flavorful and would order them again. Lastly, we tried their warm lobster roll with butter. Probably the least favorite part of the meal but still okay. The lobster didn't have much flavor and didn't get any large pieces. We would pass on getting this again. The highlight of the dish was the coleslaw! Loved the German type, not the mayo version. And it came with potato chips. Kinda disappointed with that instead of some nice, hot fries. My partner and I vacationed in Maine this past October. Our last full day was spent driving and hiking through Acadia National Park and we decided to round out things with a splurgy dinner in Bar Harbor. We were not disappointed with Galyn's, which was recommended by multiple people. Here's what we had: Drinks: Maine Waters for me. This was one of the specialty cocktails made with local vodka, white cranberry, Cointreau, and lime juice. It was light, slightly tart, and packed a punch. Jameson and soda with a twist for my partner Starters: * A dozen oysters. We always have local oysters when we travel and these were lovely and fresh and briny. The habanero mignonette was fantastic. Just enough spice to be felt but not so much that it overwhelmed the oysters. * Caesar salad with white anchovies. We split this salad and it was also very good. It's the first time I've had whole white anchovies and they were a perfect little salty, slightly fishy punch. Entrees: * Seafood Fettuccine. My partner ordered this and said it was amazingly good. He said there was a ton of seafood in it, plus the steamed mussels on the side. He said it was perfect for a hearty meal after a day of hiking. * Maine Combination. I chose this becuase it had a little of everything I love: a lobster tail, scallops, and a crab cake. All served over rice with a side of broccolini. It was all wonderful. The lobster tail was cooked to perfection - just tender. The scallops were perfectly grilled. And the crab cake was mostly crab with just enough filler to hold it together. Dessert: * Blueberry Apple Crisp. Being in Maine, of course we had to order the blueberry dessert. We got it with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and 2 glasses of Oban 14 Scotch. The crisp was lightly sweet but still let the tartness of the blueberries come through, which was perfect with the ice cream. We sat upstairs in the galley lounge and got to chat with the bartender (who was also our server) and some of the staff during the evening. I rarely give out 5* reviews, especially on a first/only visit, but this experience absolutely surpassed our expectations for a late-season splurge meal. If you're in Bar Harbor and want a truly superlative meal with excellent service and a relaxed & quiet atmosphere, I cannot recommend Galyn's highly enough. read more

There is so mich great seafood to be had here it pains me to miss an opportunity to have it and this meal robbed me of an opportunity. We have been to Galyns three times in three years. It was recommended by a fellow traveler and has not disappointed. We were sat very quickly and we were sat by the windows that face the street and park. Great for people watching. I had never seen a lobster enchilada on another menu. What the heck. I ordered it and it was delicious. Had sides of mashed potatoes and baby asparagus. YUM! Loved every bit of it! This restaurant has been around town for a while. Its storefront is deceiving because the inside is huge with both an upstairs and a downstairs. We sat upstairs in the interior dining room and it felt very cozy and relaxed with all the wooden decor. We came around 5pm on a weekday so didn't really need a reservation but a reservation is totally necessary for any other prime meal time. They have the best crab cakes here! I actually decided to come here because as we were contemplating the menu outside the restaurant another guest who had just finished his meal here claimed they made the best crab cakes he had ever had. I would have to agree with that statement. The crab cake dinner comes with three 2oz crab cakes, a rotating vegetable (ours for the night was broccolini) and rice. It felt pretty healthy and was extremely filling. The crab cakes were more crab than bread crumbs, which really intensified the flavor. The sauce for the crab cakes was the icing on the cake. For dessert we decided to try something a little different and go with the Indian pudding. It's a cornmeal based dessert with a very intense molasses flavor that I thought went well with the vanilla ice cream. It's not everyone's cup of tea but I thought it was worth trying. Decided to do takeout after a long day of exploring. We ordered over the phone and the food was ready within 30 minutes. The person on the phone was friendly and helpful with the order. Got there early and waited a few minutes on the food and while I did that I enjoyed the view of the evening view of harbor through the large glass window, you would have thought it was a painting. The food was still hot when we got back to our hotel and they were able to give us extra utensils and a soup cup since we were sharing our meal. We ordered the: Stuffed Pork Chop- this was very good, a little dry since it was stuffed but was my favorite with sauce on the potatos.. mmm! Seafood Linguine - the pasta overall was ok. The scallops and the shrimp were the highlights for me in this. New england clam chowder- really good, I was surprised how much meat it had. This place get's busy. We went at 5:05 and had to wait approx. 20 mins for a table (we went in at the tail end of the "on-season" so to he expected). We overall thought the experience was okay but not worth the price. Don't get me wrong- the seafood is good. We tried the lobster bisque, bread service, Maine combination, and the blueberry crumble. Maine combination had great seafood but the presentation was weird, served with three massive sauces that took up the entire plate (one butter, one weird mayo mixture, one jalapeno cilantro sauce that did not suit the dishes in the slightest), a bunch of wilted lettuce, a massive portion of wild rice and cold boiled broccolini with the seafood. The bread service was strange, it was supposed to be served with seasoned olive oil but it was served with a plain olive oil and some form of french dressing. Lobster bisque was very good. Blueberry crumble very good. The waiter was very busy which I assume was the main problem (he was friendly and attentive). However he was running around and spilled our drinks a bit (like 1/6 of my gimlet was spilled on him and both of our coffees) and instead of getting us new drinks, he just served us the ones he partially spilled. Which is fine if its a dive bar but we are spending 15$ on a partial cocktail here, and the coffee saucers were filled with coffee so the presentation was off-putting. We enjoyed our experience and the ambiance. Our bill was a little under 200$ which we were expecting but not for the quality and the overall vibe of the evening. Very strange experience. read more
