Jeff's Landscape - Jeff came back to edge this side but again it's left without mulch.

    Jeff's Landscape

I've never posted a negative review about a local business, and am sad that I have to leave a less…read morethan stellar one here. I think the issue boiled down to poor communication. Despite me asking several times before our service date to detail what the work included specifically, I was left with a yard that feels unfinished and now have to spend more money on. I contacted Jeff's landscaping because we purchased a house several years ago with a lot of landscaping that we have never had professionally done. I was hoping to have a landscaping company come and edge both the front and back yard areas to make it look polished, and to have everything re-mulched. Jeff came out to the house for an estimate and I explained what we wanted- everything edged and mulched as a "reset and refresh" to all the areas, including the backyard which had not been edged in at least 5 years. I had already done about 50 bags of leaf cleaning and weeding myself before calling him. Jeff articulated understanding what we wanted as we did a walk through, specifically pointing out all the areas that needed to be edged and understood I wanted everything to be clean lines; a fresh start. Jeff sent us a quote shortly after that included both "Spring Cleanup" and mulching. I emailed him back several times asking for details/clarify info what the "spring cleanup" involved because I wanted to be sure it was what I thought it was- blowing out remaining leaves and making a clean, polished edge in both the front and back. He responded that it included Thatching of the lawn, edging of the beds, raking and general cleaning of all areas." I emailed back responding that we had saved up a long time to get this done professionally, and that we were excited to work together. He even kindly got me brown mulch which he doesn't typically carry but I had requested. The day that his team showed up, when I looked out the window I saw the workers edging first thing in the morning- the lines looked pretty haphazard and I was confused- lots of curving lines and right angles and turns and waves in an areas that should be generally straight lines across a mulch bed. Additionally, some things just didn't make sense- for example they cut a mulch bed on the left side of our shed door but not on the right. I went outside to the workers twice and asked if they could just make the lines straight or a gentle curve- I thought they understood. By the time I looked outside again it was worse. I got my phone to call Jeff to see what was going on, but by that time they drove away. Soon after Jeff came with the truck of mulch, ready to spread it. I told him why I was confused, and not liking what I was seeing. Jeff explained that often he comes out and sprays a line for where his workers should edge, and the client can see before it's done- he said "in this case that didn't happen". He didn't explain why. What he did say was that his workers must have "followed the lines where the weeds were growing and stopping", resulting in the strange shape that they chose. I tried to remain fair and calm but expressed how this was frustrating to me, as we had saved a long time for our lawn to look polished and clean and that I felt it wasn't right that a step that normally happens didn't, resulting in a less than optical result. Especially when we had communicated that this was a big deal for us financially. Jeff's reply was that the quoted price included edging of existing beds and that what we should have asked for was that we wanted new beds to be dug since these had been neglected for so long. I am not a landscaper and I'm a first time homeowner- I think I was very clear in stating what we wanted (both in person and via email) and I feel this should have been brought to I my attention before the workers started cutting. Jeff finished mulching, and I again came out after reflecting and expressed my frustration as I looked at the finished product. He said he would come back and fix what he could, which meant tearing out more grass to straighten the lines, and that that was more labor than was originally quoted. Jeff did come back and things look improved- however still not great. And because he fixed the edging after he mulched, I am now left with multiple large areas that require more mulch. I am happy to pay for that mulch, but he is also quoting me an additional amount to have the truck come back to spray the mulch- otherwise I have to do that labor myself. Either way, several hundred of dollars more and there are still areas which don't look like they were professionally landscaped.

We appreciated the quality of their work so much that we kept them here to reset the cobbling near our front sidewalk and driveway and will certainly be having them back to help do some regrading and lawn care work in the spring!

Simply amazing. I don't usually go with someone unless I have done exhaustive research. The fencing would be moved closer to my yard after stone walls were put up... and you can see the complexity here... so I decided to go with them after meeting Chris. First of all, Chris is really down to earth, I trusted him immediately. He also likes to text (my preferred method of communication) and he also followed up with emails. He was super responsive and when we went back and forth a few times, he did not show any impatience. He offered options and suggestions, and when I asked for a recommendation he would pick an option and tell me why. I loved that. His crew is amazing. When they are here to work, they WORK. The complete cleanup of our year, the building of our wall, the filling in with gravel and topping off with stone, the laying in of the cobbles, the creation of an overflow for our sump in the front lawn, etc... could not be happier! They were quick, efficient, and did quality work. He didn't spring any surprises on you, he was on site daily, and made time for me when I had questions. They are a joy to work with and I recommend them to the WORLD! I feel that their prices were very reasonable and Chris was very transparent about the cost of materials. So I could do a quick calculation in my head, and I know that the pricing was fair. If you need any kind of work done, run to the phone or computer and call or email him! You won't got wrong!!
