My first time golfing at Galloping Hill Golf Course was great! The weather was a perfect 56F and the course was beautiful. We got to start a little earlier than planned, so that was a plus since it gets darker quicker now (November 2021). There was a mini issue with our cart stalling going up hills, but it all worked out in the end. After a wonderful outing, we stopped by to grab drinks and food at The Hill Tavern Sports Bar & Grill. They were setting up for an event, but that wasn't a problem - staff were friendly and attentive. Food was great, but cocktails were a miss. For food, we ordered the classic burger, buffalo chicken sandwich, mediterranean salad w/ chicken, and the classic caesar w/ salmon. For drinks, we ordered beers, a pear drink, and the bacon bourbon mule - flavors were just off. Overall, my experience was great! I'll probably stick to beer or wine next time though. read more

Our Wedding 5/11/2024 Let me start by saying that the venue was beautiful on the day of our wedding. What made it even more special was Kristina's attentiveness from the first day we met her. That's why we decided to have our wedding at The Galloping Hill. From the first day that we met Kristina to the day of the wedding, she has been amazing, quick to respond to email and answer any questions and concerns that we had. Unfortunately, even though Kristina couldn't be there on the day of the wedding, Her team exuded, professionalism, and care. They made our celebration extremely special and we thank them for that Emily, Blanca,Victoria and Michelle from the bottom of our hearts. It was a joy having such a professional and friendly team. Our friends and family even commented on how great you all were and how enticing the food and dessert were. The golf course is interesting. However, it is very flooded in places. Also, the person handling the carts was rude. And the pro shop only sells men's golf clothing. Nothing for women. When I asked about it, he told me that women shop. They don't buy. It was very insulting as a missed opportunity as I was with a group of over 100 women golfers who were interested in purchasing clothing. read more

Recently had our son's wedding there. Beautiful wedding venue. Attentive staff. However, the air conditioning was not working well. Guests were sweating and extremely uncomfortable. Ruined what could have been a beautiful event. Recommend you check on the status of the air conditioning before you book your event. read more

Enjoyed a great season opening outing of the LPGA amateurs NYC chapter at Galloping Hill. We started with a fabulous buffet brunch on the patio followed by golf. The facilities are first rate. The group took advantage of the wonderful practice facility to hold a clinic and then played on both the 9 hole and 18 hole courses. The variety of options allowed us to accommodate all the skill levels in our group at the same event. We ended with some after round drinks and snacks in the bar. What a nice course! I think I had been here before but didn't remember until I hit the first tee. Top class public course with some challenging holes sprinkled in. The course was very soggy when we went so it was cart path only but the experience was good. The fairways are well manicured and the greens were nice and smooth. I came for an outing so not sure how much it costs normally but it was worth it. I would definitely come by and play again. Check it out. read more

This is a gorgeous place to host a wedding. The views from the second floor were priceless during the cocktail hour. The cocktail hour food was also very good. The stuffed clams and sliders were amazing! Bar service was also very quick and the drinks were strong. The main reception area was very pretty with good lighting. The music was also just loud enough but you could still hold a conversation at your table. The main dinner was just ok. I had the stuffed chicken and it was super salty. The rolls on the table were like little rocks..Very hard! Overall, they held a terrific event. read more

First time visiting the course. When I arrived the clubhouse was chaotic with carts parked all over the pathway and wasnt greeted at all nor noticed by anyone that worked there. Our tee time was at 1:38PM and of course we arrived an hour early prior to our tee time. Ranger was an elderly man all by himself walking left and right going to the 1st hole to 10th hole to assist the golfers. Our tee time passed and we were told to start from the 10th hole so we went. We waited for about 10 mins and was getting to start our game but the ranger came back and told us there were a group ahead of us. The ranger then told us to go back to the 1st hole and wait. The time was 1:59PM. I got irritated about the late tee time so I went into the pro shop to complain on why we were getting moved back and forth. Two middle aged men were at the cashier. I was talking to one of them but apparently the guy next to him thought it was alright to butt in and was telling me that I was wrong? and to keep my voice down cause one other customer was there in the shop with us. They werent listening to a single word I was saying and just tried to talk over me. To cut the long story short. Those men in the shop told us to go back to the 10th hole and because we were next but yet again we were pushed back. I asked the guys in front when their tee time was and they said 1:49. SO logically we were suppose to be next...Later the elderly ranger came back and told us to come back to the 1st hole and we started the game at 2:15. All this was happening we didnt get a single apology. Oh yeah, almost forgot. The ranger came back to us while we were playing on our 8th hole and said there were complaints that the game was going slow and wanted us to hurry. Are you kidding me? how are we suppose to go any faster when we have people in front of us going slow as well? I felt like we were picked on. This place really needs better customer service and learn to manage their tee time. Not a single smile or a thank you until the end. read more

This is a beautiful estate right off of route 22 in NJ. I came here not for the golf or dining experience, but in attendance of a private affair. Let's start with the parking lot. I was walking from my car when a golf cart swung to me and gave me a lift. What a lifesaver because my shoes were not comfortable, and after one reaches the building there is a winding driveway entrance you must traverse on a steep incline. I reach inside and it gives me hotel meets banquet hall meets country club vibes. There was a cash and card bar that was serving specialty cocktails. The drink was just strong enough, and the bartenders were professional. The food was buffet style, and it tasted as good as it looks below. The waiter that we had stayed with a smile plastered on his face.LOL After eating I went on the terrace and enjoyed the breathtaking view. I would recommend them for private events. I learned to play golf at this course. They have an awesome 9 hole learning course which is only $17. You could spend 10 bucks hitting balls into nowhere, or spend a little more and play some actual golf. On a weekday, I walk it and can get in and out in about an hour and a half. Public courses in this area are notorious for being overcrowded, overpriced, and poorly maintained. All of which adds up to an intimidating experience for the beginner golfer. This is not the case at Galloping Hill. If you're a beginner like me you should definitely check it out. read more

The course is kept well, the driving range is a decent size and thy have three practice greens(one of them has a sand trap). All and all I had a good experience here however I did have one problem that hindered me from rating this place four stars. I didn't see one Ranger on the course. It took my group around six hours to finish 18 holes so clearly someone had to be out there hurrying up the lolligagers. With that said its still a good course, reasonably priced and they're also upgrading the facilities. I'd go back. read more

*Review from a visit pre-COVID19* My fiancé & I absolutely LOVE this place! We love to sit outside overlooking the golf course! It really is stunningly beautiful. When it's a little chillier out or when we go later in the evening, we sit at the tables with FIRE PITS. Yes, FIRE PITS! All you have to do is ask your waiter/waitress to assist in turning on the fire (which can sometimes mean they get a propane tank & hook it up to the table - don't worry it's very quick to set up but worth it). read more

My sister had her wedding here this past weekend and the service was terrible, aside from our waitress in the bridal suite who was amazing. During cocktail hour, the food was barely being restocked and I only saw one waitress come out in 40 minutes. We were promised 12 hors d'oeuvres and I only saw one being distributed. Our guests complained all they had were crackers and cheese despite showing up on time. I found our event coordinator Jennifer and told her what was going on but she insisted they were being distributed and did nothing further. Then to make matters worse, the bar closed around 11:30 without warning when our event lasted until 12:00. Most of the liquor was watered down and they only had 2 bartenders for a party of 200. Overall, we were not satisfied with the service and I would be cautious of booking, as you are paying for poor services. Only good part was dinner. The food was good and no issues there. read more

The track is nice and moderately challenging and the clubhouse is well done. Some holes are very picturesque, others are forgettable. However, the greens are in AWFUL condition, full of divots. And the Ranger is a complete jerk. He scolded us on multiple occasions even though we had no one in front of us or behind us. We finished our round in under 4 hours, but always had to worry about this mess of a human being unprofessional and rude. There are also clocks on every hole to remind you of your timing; completely tacky. Pace wasn't even as issue for us, but if pace is an issue maybe the club management shouldn't overbook the course. But judging by the bitter, pathetic human they hired as a Ranger, I can see this cheap attitude probably comes from the top down. I'd come again, maybe in the offseason or mid-week, but I'm in not rush to return. Which is sad cause if the greens were in better shape and the staff was properly trained, the course could be great. read more

Just returned from a private party here. Many children as well as adults. The kids had their own "bar" for soft drinks, and the adults had theirs. Although there was only one bartender, Cookie did an admirable job of keeping up with the demand, and with a smile. Melissa, the event manager, was right on top of the ingredients for the buffet... she knew which foods were gluten free [required due to celiac disease] and which to stay away from. Later on, she approached us in the crowd to update us on the foods. The rest rooms were modern, clean, and well appointed. There were adequate servers circulating to remove used plates and glasses all the time, without rushing anyone. I cannot fault the venue for the impossibly loud band, but there were adequate places to go to when you wanted a quiet conversation. Excellent parking, both valet and self park. If I was having an affair in this area, it would definitely be one of my possible choices. read more

My experience on Easter Sunday was very unprofessional. My group was told by the ranger various times to have other groups go ahead of us (exactly 3 other foursomes and 1 single golfer). His reasoning was that we were moving at a slow pace when we finished the 9-holes with a total time of 3-hours after having to wait for 13 golfers to go ahead of us. The ranger pointed out that the starter must not have been at hole one to control when players began. So why did my foursome have to suffer and allow others to pass when the starters job is to manage when teams begin. Is that not what the starter is getting paid to do? Or his is role to just drive around? Truly it was outrageous! As a foursome we never have had an experience quite like this. We have played at various courses in different countries and this was the lowest rate experience so far. The ranger truly targeted us because we were female and 2 male minorities. In addition, the sales rep (Janine) at the club house was extremely unprofessional when she speaks with you. She motioned her hand various times for us to speed up our pace when we were giving her our email. Her professionalism is not apparent- rather it is like speaking to a bartender at a low end sports bar. Whoever hired her did not discuss to her the proper etiquette for a country club and its clientele. I discussed this experience with the manager who dismissed my experience and supported his employees. The customer service is very low rate and I have never experienced a manager who does not care to rebuild a clients loyalty rather is more concerned in stating that his employees were right. As a female client, I do not feel as though they respected my claim, treated me as a paying clientele and cared to make the experience better. FEMALE GOLFERS BEWARE-- your experience will not be the same as a males experience at this country club. Manager will also not care to provide proper customer service. read more

My home course in New Jersey. right off the parkway in Kennilworth, and relatively easy to get to, if you can figure out the one or two quick turns. About two years ago, they really put money into themselves and built up the club house to PGA standards. They remodeled the course a bit and I must say, it has never looked or played quite as beautifully. the price isn't bad and the greens are spectacular. read more

Galloping Hills is my home golf course. I love this golf course. There are 27 holes (3 9-hole courses). Exit 138 off Garden State Parkway, it is only about a 30 minute ride from NYC. Although not the longest course but by far one of the most challenging. This is one tough course to walk. As a matter of fact there is one hole, a par-4 where you have to walk up this hill, called Cardiac hill, to reach the elevated green. Its equivalent to about 3-4 story walk-up. Throughout the years, the conditions have been improving as they now have knowledgeable groundskeepers. 2009 promises to be an even better year for Galloping Hills as they are making some extensive changes to a few holes thus changing the layout and increasing the difficulty of play. I'm from Maryland, but the friends I visit live around Kenilworth so we always end up playing here. Their 9-hole course is $18. It's great for learning the game and learning your game. As a beginner, coming here often, every other month or so for the past year has improved my game tremendously. It's right off the highway yet stays quiet, the conditions are well kept, and the driving range is ideal for warming up before your round. Like any other public course, come early on nice days. But don't quit without checking out the crowd (if any). It's generally not packed, but even on a busy day the pace was fine. I look forward to my next round. read more

New York City is just 20 miles away from this standout track. And it's a standout because the area is fraught with courses sans practice facilities or decent playing conditions. With real estate the way it is in this part of the world, golf courses here charge a pretty penny to play. But when we found Galloping Hills GC, we stumbled across a lush scene of serenity amidst the bustle of the big city without breaking the wallet. A major freeway running alongside the course provides a constant reminder that the hustle and bustle of the city isn't too far away. Thankfully, the lay of the land prevents that visual from spoiling very much of the course. The two-tiered driving range employs mats for all you turf junkies. (Just be grateful you have a place to warm up) This course lives up to its name with many hills providing elevation changes galore. I have a 14 day players card so I'm lucky enough to get a time every Saturday. I know it can be frustrating for those who don't. This golf course is phenomenal. The layout is as challenging as I've played, topping out around 6850 yards. The condition of the course was good all year (2020). Feels like you are far away from the world even though you're right off the Parkway. Lot of uphill approaches on 2, 5, 7, 9 and 18. One of the few public courses that I get truly geared up to play and is a treat to play, alongside Neshanic, Charleston Springs, Heron Glen etc. Awesome course and you'll need your A game to shoot a score read more

This place is absolutely horrible. We paid for 5 hours open bar through our law school ball from 7pm - 12am. It is now 11:40pm and we got cut off from our drinks because "the bar is done". The manager - Eddy Carabello - said "we're closed. Is it what it is." If we paid for our time we should get what we paid for, and at the least he could have been courteous. They had plenty of alcohol back at the bar and there is absolute no reason why they didn't serve us. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE. EVER. read more

I have mixed emotions about this facility. Firstly, I thought it was really beautiful and I liked the interior decoration. The quality of the food could've been better to match the atmosphere. The fruit came out with the appetizers and it was all mushy, just did not look appetizing. Chicken tasted like wood. I also noticed a slight urine type odor in the Red Knot room that was a bit unnerving at times. I can only imagine this is coming from the bar because the restrooms were a reasonable distance away. The one star is for the lovely lady I met at the Wedding Expo I attended who graciously answered all of my questions. I was looking forward to visiting this venue after stopping by their booth at the Wedding expo this past weekend. When I called, expressed that I wanted to set up an appointment with Ashley (the girl I met at the expo) for Saturday and she said she was only working Sunday so I then asked what time. Christina said only 11 because they had an event later (totally understandable) so I told her I couldn't do that time because we leave mass at 11:30. I told her that I would come in and meet someone else on Saturday if there was availability so she said "yes" there was and she put me on hold to talk to her coworker. I am not sure who her coworker was but I could clearly hear the conversation in which she stated "well if she can't come Sunday that's her problem!" I was extremely disappointed at the lack of professionalism and hung up the phone. Christina called and left a message with their availability. However, when returned their phone call I expressed my sentiments toward this experience and I hope NO FUTURE BRIDE experiences this lack of professionalism on their behalf. read more

Been golfing all over the world for 30 years and never knew this was so close to my house. Played for the first time yesterday and it really is a gorgeous course. The Starter was really nice and they kept the play in place. Greens were a little bumpy but it didn't keep our balls from going in. We will def be back! read more

I'm not one for reviews but I couldn't help myself on this one. Called yesterday to ask about renting clubs and the person I spoke to said they can't offer that right now and said I could let the person with me use my clubs. Get there this morning and the person working the front 9 said we can't play unless my friend had a bag. I tried to explain the situation and he cut me off and told me to go inside and speak to Roger. The line was long and it took me 20 minutes to pay and speak with Roger. It's now time to tee off and the same guy who told me to go inside is now screaming at me to hurry up. Mind you we paid 80$ each for a round which is more than I EVER paid to play golf and get this kind of service back? I will NEVER go back to this place because they treat customers with zero respect and dignity. If you like getting yelled and screamed at the moment you get to a golf course, this may be the place for you. read more

Had my nieces wedding here two weeks ago and I have to say the service was terrible, really disappointed considering the amount of money they paid and how they painted such a pretty picture when considering this location. Cocktails hour was slim pickings, plus it was windy that day so when they opened the door to the terrace from where the cocktail hour was being held the large glass vase part of the seafood station came crashing down they had to remove everything on the station because of possible broken glass. Did they replace the seafood, NOPE. Event planner was non-responsive to several complaints from bridal party. Waiters trying to remove our dinner plates before we were finished eating, ordered the steak medium rare but got a not only well done but burnt on top, at that point I was done and just enjoyed the mashed potatoes. Oh, and if you wanted a drink there was no one that would get one for you either, this was not a big deal to me considering all else but still for the amount of money they charge per person this should at least be an option for guest. I will say the venue is beautiful, however, due to our experience I would not recommend this venue to any bride-to-be. Management has a lot of work to do and if this place receives another Knot wedding site award then I know these awards are a JOKE! read more

The wedding management people had their hands full with this crowd. They were working hard to make everyone happy for their wedding.
