Poor customer service and zero flexibility for an honest mistake. On 4/15 around 7:20pm, I accidentally booked the wrong tee time (4/16 instead of 4/18). I realized it immediately and tried to call the clubhouse, but it was already closed. There is also no option to cancel or modify a booking online, so there was no way to fix the mistake that night. I called first thing the next morning and was told "tough luck" and I would be charged the full fee with no ability to receive a credit or make a change. I understand having policies to protect against no-shows, but this situation was clearly different. I attempted to correct my error right away and was given no option to do so. A simple credit or rebooking option would have been a reasonable solution. Instead, there was no flexibility or willingness to work with me on an honest mistake. I've played a lot of courses, and this is the least accommodating experience I've had when trying to resolve a simple booking error. read more

Recently renovated, they should never have opened the course in 2025. Course design is great, when in better shape, this short par 70, could be fun to play. BUT, greens are not where they need to be particularly on the front 9. Overall conditions were inconsistent, with distressed fairways and greens. Many areas on the course still need grass to be grown. Two big areas of concern, the people in the pro shop and the starter have no clue. I waited for the pro shop attendant for over 5 minutes to finish his personal conversation with someone in the pro shop before he could help me. And on top of that, given I was 45 minutes before my tee time, he said very likely I could get out sooner than my time. The starter asked me 3x when my time was, told him I was ready and able to tee off earlier, and he proceeded to let out 3 separate groups of twosomes. NO CLUE how to be a starter. And, their carts don't beep as they are supposed to before entering restricted area, they just lock up. read more

Terrible management told us they needed the carts back at 5:30 after we paid $20 a person for them then tried charging us an extra $5 for the walking cart. The carts don't even work on half of the course and will shut off on you if your slightly off the fairway. STAY AWAY. read more

For all the hype that they gave this course renovation, it should be a lot better than this. Essex county has money there's no reason it should be this bad. What good is it to redesign stuff but not maintain it? Greens were god awful, like putting on shag carpet. Tee boxes torn up, overgrowth all over. The goddamn carts don't let you drive anywhere without turning off! If you're gonna use that technology at least put the yardage gps screen like the others do. Can we get some damn drinks and snacks too not just a broken vending machine. Starters and workers are incompetent. This course should be $40 tops not $60 and then a cart fee. I don't mind the layout but I can't believe a course that just opened is in shape like a dog track. Won't be returning read more

The greens are unplayable on almost ever hole because of terrible pin positions. Miss a putt by a few inches? Expect it to roll off the green, sometimes 20 feet away. due to most all of the pin locations located on the worst slopes possible. They really need to educate whomever is choosing these hole locations. They have no clue about golf. Tee box markers also seem to be randomly placed, too. White tees were way off to the right, with shots blocked by trees on No. 9. Is he person who's in charge of this course not paying attention? Lots of grumbling from the regulars, from what I heard. It's a pretty nice course, otherwise, staff is very friendly, too, but the flag locations add at least 10-15 shots to your round. Sad. Please get this straightened out! read more

The course is very narrow and hilly with 5 foot deep traps. No water! The pro shop had no golf items available including tees,balls,gloves, towels etc That was very disappointing with no pro on site.the clerk could care less about being there. For most part the people who work there are very nice, except for the MANGER if he ever leaves I want to make this my home course . What a gem! I play yhe public courses in Essex county. They are all very nice and well ami tained. The ataff is very efficient and nice. This would have been a 5 star except when it comes to your tee time, they just don't communicate when they change. Also, all three Essex county courses have a " special" number to call to get early tee times. I prefer to play early. The people I meet and play with are great and the veiw of the Trade Center tower is fabulous. read more

Woke up on a gorgeous Sunday morning and called my buddy who lives in Manhattan. Neither of us have a car so we needed something accessible to the train. I tried Emerson but they were booked. Silver Lake in Staten Island seemed too difficult to get to. Why not give the old tourist mecca known as Newark, NJ a shot? I called this place up. No reservations for out of county folk like us. They said not to worry so we met up in Newark Penn Station. Pretty easy to snag a cab outside on Raymond Blvd West. The cab ride was around $20 so not bad if you are splitting with a friend. The staff was helpful and courteous. The gave us a ton of ice in a bag to keep us hydrated which was nice. I hate courses that give you a cup of ice. It's 80 degrees out and this will melt in two minutes. Dre was carrying the beverages in the drink cart and even hit a ball with us. Definitely a good staff and they did something above and beyond later when we ran into logistical trouble getting back to the train station. The course itself is in good shape. They have pretty good conditions on the fairway. the greens are in good shape and challenging. There were a few that were really sloped and frustrating, but that is golf. There are not a lot of water hazards and a decent amount of sand. The whites are a little short. They have several dog legs. We even encountered a snapper turtle. Overall, it was a satisfying round of golf for $61 out of county. They allow you to pay for a membership for $250 or something that gets your fees down to around $35 riding. So our cab never showed, so Jerry (manager) gave us the red carpet treatment and offered to take us back to downtown. They have no food other than snacks and no liquor license there which would've knocked this down to 3 stars, but the ride gained them a star. He drove us to Dinosaur BBQ which was awesome. This is a good course with reasonable prices and easy without a car. read more

My home course. Played again today, and I was a little late for my tee time, but the staff at this place, as always, was great. Very friendly, always conversational and welcoming. All should play this course. Hole 9 has a great view of lower Manhattan if you look in the right place, and hole 11 has a great view of downtown Newark over the lake. Great fairways, whole course is very well kept and manicured; challenging holes, given that some are narrow. Variety is good with some picturesque par 3s, and some interesting hills. Sand traps are not too abundant but very tough if you wind up in one. They recently renovated the clubhouse and parking lot and it is more becoming of the beautiful course. read more

This is truly a gem. I played a couple times. The course and the staff are terrific. Both times I played it wasn't crowded. I wish the greens were faster, but I'm getting used to them. Every hole is different. I will continue to play here until it closes for the winter. I didn't see any food other than snacks so if you need to eat, bring it. They have a lovely terrace for dining. Rest rooms and locker areas are new and spotless. A big difference from my home course, Ashbrook in Union County. And if you need lessons, their Pro is terrific. Lee Hunter is one of the best teachers I ever encountered. read more

I started playing this course last winter because it was the only course open. I'm a Bergen County Resident and signed up for a non county membership because I like the course that much. The course is short but narrow and the greens are small with some speed. The customer service here is top notch. I was having an issue setting a tee time on line and called the club house. A wonderful woman named Christina helped me. She had a wonderful upbeat attitude and was able to resolve the issue immediately-- she was great. Went to go play golf today at my home course and found out that condescending manager who by the way is never there got rid of that girl Christina. Man Craig and Chris ran that whole place. They always went above and beyond for us patrons and it was always a pleasure walking in and seeing those two. The rest of the staff is great too, Andy Wiley Al Dave Will & Jim but I'm not sure how Jerry became the manager cuz his management skills are nonexistent and his work ethic is trash and he always has to let somebody know he's from the south like what does that even mean?? I bet he felt intimidated by her cuz she did his job better than he did. Whether she was inside outside or on the course that girl was the best doing whatever she could to help us golfers out even on the busiest days. Always cleaning something too, I even seen her in the men's bathroom multiple times she was literally the only girl there why was she cleaning the men's bathroom all the time??? This is NJ's best kept secret. Built in 1913, Weequahic is NJ's first public golf course. But to be on it, you'd never know it was public. The greens and fairways are immaculately kept. Weekdays, especially the afternoons, are not crowded. You could play several holes without seeing another golfer. Each hole presents a different challenge, and after a summer of golfing here, I have yet to feel bored. Best of all, the staff is as friendly, courteous and helpful as it gets. After my first visit, I knew I wanted to join. After only the second visit, the staff greeted me by name. Wow. I felt like I had joined an exclusive country club and paid them a million dollars to do that! But of course, I hadn't. The hospitality is genuine and priceless. All the money in the world can't buy the great guys who make this the best place to golf in NJ! I've been playing this course almost every Sunday this summer. Each outing is unique. It's almost like a new course each time. The greens are in great shape and have a lot of personality. Would highly recommend trying it out. As other reviewers have noted, the staff is super friendly. read more
