I had the chance to try their custom-made salad and couscous, lamb and vegetables. Both were delicious but the couscous was my favorite as it was warm and homey. Their Merguez was also really yummy ;-) I strongly recommend the berber salad dressing, it was out of this world. The staff was extremely kind and friendly. It is family-run so you feel the warmth from everyone. They serve Paella on Fridays and Saturdays, which I would definitely add to my list to try. Check them out if you're craving Mediterranean cuisine or if you're in Little Italy. Bon appétit!

By chance, I discovered they were making final preparations for their upcoming open house and official opening day, and got a sneak peek of the beautiful, ultra clean and neat interior, which includes colourful tea pots on one wall, a section of cubbyholes with cookbooks and teas nestled in the back corner, and a sweeping L-shaped counter on the right; just past the entrance way. There is an intriguing looking 3-D style image made out of wood and painted to match the decor just inside the entrance. There is also a giant blackboard near the front and two high top tables near the front window, plus a selection of light wooden tables with white and wooden chairs to match. They will be serving Mediterranean specialties with a Northern African flair, authentic Algerian dishes with sauces, and signature teas from the world over. Their inventive sauce and vinaigrette list revisits old classics like Greek, Caesar and Italian and adds several signature creations like Za'atar Berberi. The restaurant is family run though and through; and emanates warmth and hospitality. From the moment I entered I got that 'something special's going on here' feeling and when I got to try some of their hot and cold selections it was confirmed. Everything came across well, healthy - not to mention tasty. They have a salad making section with heaps of fresh quality ingredients, from proteins, to additions, to extras - so much that it would take years to try every possible combination - but that's a challenge that may be worth while. They have three types of couscous to choose from and their merguez sausage is the real deal. The name of the restaurant is a tip of the cap to couscous since (I was told by the family) a Kes-Kes is what the colander-type tray used to make couscous, is called in their language. Very importantly, there is an open kitchen in the back where the chef with Spanish roots looks right at home preparing the meats, vegetables and all the necessary components to make up the Mediterranean dishes on offer. I am definitely excited to try more of their signature tastes in light bite, hot meal, salad, sauce or tea form. It is so nice to see this type of family first, tradition forward and produce driven style of restaurant open in 2022/23. They deserve all the luck in the world. Note: Their official opening was on December 30th

Not a huge amount of seating and the three times we've been, we've seen lineups for groups larger than four waiting to be seated. Most of the items are offered grilled or fried, but you can ask for a different cooking method and they try to accommodate. They have a set menu from which to choose OR you can, as mentioned previously, pick your own fish by weight to be prepared. Unless you have a specific fish in mind that you must have and the exact cut or piece, I highly suggest just sticking to one of the menu items to keep your bill reasonable. The menu items are very fair in price, but if you start to get fancy and ask for a piece of halibut to be cut, don't be surprised if your meal quickly becomes $40 lol, which would be expected at a more fine dining establishment, but in this diner type of setting, is a bit much. I always order the grilled shrimp plate which is 8 medium-sized well seasoned grilled shrimp that come with crunchy, tasty french fries and a very nice, fresh garden salad. The price on that dish is $15, and it's a very generous portion. The appetizer sized calamari is also a very good deal at $10, easily shared between two people. Note, the calamari looks pale and unappetizing at first glance, but it's cooked just right and tastes great. For the fish and seafood lovers, this definitely is a more unique place and so many types of fish to try!

I found the cuisine to be vibrant and healthful, with bright and energizing flavors that were well executed overall. The staff are knowledgable about the menu and dish conception, and generally pleasant and friendly to converse with. (Jacqual: B) - Simply presented drink that features hibiscus and citrus with zero proof beer, which I found fascinating. The beer notes are in the background prevailed by the sourness of the other components, where I wish there was a little more added sweetness. (Fried Maitake: A) - Perfectly seasoned dish with tender and high surface area mushrooms coated in an impressly crisp batter given the moisture usually found in mushrooms. The seasoning could not be better with the salt and spice combo; the chive and parsley mayo also add an herbaceous depth of flavor. (Heirloom Tomatoes: A) - Pefectly plated tomatoes with a surprising sunflower seed forward profile given the subtleness of the ingredient; the dish is well balanced and brings out the harmonious flavors of the garden, although I think the bites with flake salt had that even more perfect note. (Hanger Steak: A+) - Beautifully perfected cut of beef with Asian inspiration; the steak is juicily pink with a charred exterior; the carrot ginger puree has a lovely mild and lingering spice, with some additional spice coming from the shishito and the pickled jalapeno. Beautiful dish. (Peach Sorbet: C) - Flavorally pleasant dessert with peach three ways and a nut crumble to add crunch; the sorbet was very hard though and could have benefitted from spirits in the churning process. The restaurant seems to be very popular for birthdays or special group gatherings. What interested me in the first place was the large menu, there is a good selection of everything so it easy to please a picky eater. The restaurant itself it medium sized, there is a small parking lot and free street parking. It is located in a very residential neighborhood. The interior style and vibe is fancy, higher end, white table cloth and intimate. We were seated and served very promptly. Our main meals were the penne romanoff which is a pasta in a rosee and vodka sauce, along with the grilled lamb chops. This is served with a side of potatoes and veggies but we were able to swap this out with a side of simple olive oil and garlic pasta instead. They serve complimentary flat bread and buns to start. The pasta was delicious, extremely rich and flavorful, and pretty generous in portion. The lamb chops were dainty, cooked well and tasty however we expected more of an herb or seasoned crust to these -they only had a sprinkle of herbs on them. Service is super speedy and efficient, we were in and out very quickly since we did not order anything else. I would highly recommend this place for pasta, if you live in the area, take out would be ideal. The pricing and portion is very reasonable. I would definitely come back and want to try other things from the menu, we saw several other dishes at nearby tables and everything looked delicious.
