This photo doesn't do the tiramisu justice but it's the best dessert I've had in a very long time
    Anonymus N.

We're from out of town and have dreamt of this restaurant ever since we visited 2 years ago. We were excited but were left disappointed this time. While the menu remained the same, it felt like that the dishes we ordered (truffle risotto and eggplant pasta) lacked in seasoning and were just okay. Didn't knock us off our boots like last time. However, we were most disappointed in the tiramisu. The tiramisu wasn't as fresh and came in a plastic serving container, unlike the one in the picture. While the ambiance was good and our waitress/host were checking in on us, we left sad and disappointed as we traveled 5 hours to revisit this restaurant again. Sadly, I don't think we will be returning as it seems like the restaurant has jacked up the prices but the taste went away. It could be because of the financial recession, but then again who knows. Hopefully they can get it together and bring back the old Bistro Amerigo like how it used to be. That's the Bistro Amerigo that I miss.

Grilled octopus, substituted fregula sarda for the chefs recommendation.. which turned out to be medley of tomatoes and pesto.

Outstanding grilled octopus.. I've ordered grilled octopus anywhere it's on the menu... the preparation and execution was unlike anything I've had. Set the bar... incredible.

I can't say enough positive about our experience at Bistro Amerigo. Authentic food, welcoming staff & atmosphere, and excellent service. It's small, so the day of the week and time could impact your visit. Make reservations if possible but if not it's worth the wait.

Bistro Amerigo, you are like a warm hug on a cold day. It's like being in nonna's kitchen, where food is made with love. The restaurant is small, and the portions are plentiful. Be prepared to wait at night for a table. They do not take reservations. I docked one star for this, because when you get to be a certain age, waiting for a table loses its appeal. I understand why they do this, as they have a steady stream of customers and do not need to take reservations, but know that many people abhor waiting for a table, so this might deter some of your potential patrons. Aside from this hiccup, the food is wonderful, the service is personable and the ambiance is friendly and warm. A great experience overall.

This Italian restaurant is so amazing, with great staff and great tasting food. This is my go-to place for Italian whenever I'm craving a delicious pasta, meatballs or tiramisu. I've had a few of their pasta dishes and they've all been amazing. My favourite one though is the Cavatelli Barese. The flavour and textures are just so incredible that this is a must try for anyone. You can even request no meat if you're vegetarian! As for the meatballs, they're a delicious entre to begin with. I also recommend the mozzarella di bufala with bruschetta. They're both really delicious and the portion size is amazing! As for the tiramisu, it is a must! Every time I come here I get the tiramisu, it's THAT delicious. The consistency of each layer is amazing. Overall, this restaurant seems to be a hidden gem since I only discovered it recently. I highly recommend whenever you're in the mood for Italian!

Amerigo hits it out of the ballpark every time. Consistently exceptionally delicious, authentic, top-quality homemade dishes and a friendly, unpretentious atmosphere; you will feel right at home. Seafood, pasta, and mozzarella so fresh you will think you are in Italy. If they have cioppino on special, get it. And leave room for cannoli and tiramisù.

My new favourite Italian place in Montreal! I came here for the first time on Valentine's Day because we thought we'd have a better chance of getting a table since they don't take reservations. When we arrived around 8:30, we ended up waiting about 20 minutes for a table. The atmosphere is super cute, romantic and cozy! I feel like the pictures on yelp don't do it justice! It's a small space with room for about 30 people at tables and at a small bar. The service was above average. Every person who worked there was so friendly and pleasant. They were attentive but not pushy, which I really liked. We ordered the Mozzarella do Buffalo entrée and each got a pasta; the Gnocchi Arrabbiata and the Cavatelli Barese. The meals come with fresh bread and olive oil as well as a simple salad. Mozzarella di Buffalo $19: Delicious soft mozzarella with tomatoes and a pesto sauce with balsamic served with crostini. So fresh and delicious. 5/5 Gnocchi arrabiatta $14: very good, wish the sauce had a bit more spice though 3.5/5 Cavatelli Barese $18: unreal fresh pasta with sausage, brocolette, sundried tomato pesto and white wine. Amazing flavours!! 5/5 We got a tiramisu and a salted caramel cookie for dessert even though we were so full and had to take half our pasta to go! Both desserts were excellent. Best cookie I've had in years! Prices are super reasonable for the quality and portions. Can't wait to come back here!

    Calamari appetizer

The first time I came here, I wasn't blown away by the food. I tried the osso bucco, the octopus and the calamari appetizer. Although I really liked the calamari, the other two dishes were alright. The second time was completely different; the truffle porcini gnocchi melted in your mouth and the spinach riccota medallions were delicious. I highly recommend that you order something from the specials if you go. The canollis for dessert are also a must. My biggest critique is that this place does not take reservations. Both times there were line ups out the door and we waited about 30 minutes to get seated. A few other small groups left while waiting because it was taking too long. In the summer, they have patio seating so the wait isn't as bad, but it's a bit problematic in the winter.

Great appetizers and pasta, fragrant coffee, and delectable cookies! (I'm sure the other stuff is wonderful too but I haven't had the chance to try... yet!). Honestly, I LOVE this place! The food is casual but fabulous quality, the staff is so friendly and attentive, and the price... well, I think it's an amazing deal. My favourites (so far): - Octopus Salad: WOW. Will come back for more. 100%!!! - Veal Meatballs: Huge, moist, and flavourful. (Though I wish the "crostinis" were smaller/thinner.) - Gnocchi in Rosée Sauce: Great homemade gnocchi with perfect density and mouthfeel. Sush a simpledish. Clarification: Such a simple pleasure! - Pasta Putanesca: So packed with flavour yet very balanced. Spaghetti is also homemade and super fresh. Can't wait to try more of Bistro Amerigo's offerings!!! Makes me want to move to the neighbourhood... Thx to chefs and staff! MERCIIIIII!!!!!!! (Btw: the cookies are a must try. Have tried both their chocolate chip and salted caramel cookies. Yum!!!)

Hidden gem in monkland village! Incredible food! My favourite is the grilled octopus! I personally cannot wait for the terrace to open but in the meantime, love having an at home dinner from Amerigo!

Restaurants in Montreal with the name of an Italian region - 2 of 2…read more I had seen Restaurant Siciliana before. It is on Rue Stanley, not too far away from the Peel Metro Station. Rue Stanley always makes for a chuckle. I have known very few people with that name. However, it's the eponymous name of a (not even) B movie about someone's dangerous pet snake. I looked at the menu board at around lunch time. It seemed like a generic Italian restaurant, with a broad-based Italian menu and not one that was particularly Sicilian. But this was at lunch time, and I was walking down the street with something to do. I returned for dinner another day. Everything at Restaurant Siciliana was sort of perfunctory and ordinary. The interior is old school and has the red and white check tablecloths. The wood fired pizza oven is visible from the restaurant. They seat you quickly and I wanted to sit closer to the back and next to a wall, to which they obliged. Since I could not find a wall outlet, they were willing to charge my phone for me. I did not want a pizza. For that, I might go to dei Compari, which I very much like. I was looking for pasta. Since I couldn't see what it might look like or what others had ordered, I settled on the trio - three types of pasta. I've seen this done before at other Italian eateries and, within reason, they allow substitutions. Here, the wiggle room is not that much (that means no filled pasta or lasagna/e) and there is an upcharge for the allowed changes. I wanted to swap out a pasta with Alfredo sauce and they did so for another pasta that is also on their menu at the same price, but with a $3 upcharge (for U.S., divide by ~1.36). Is that that much of an inconvenience? Everything was ok - one in a Bolognese sauce, one in a rose' sauce, and one in a pesto sauce - except that the pesto sauce was a little oily and didn't sit with me. To drink, I had a ginger ale. I'm beginning to like that stuff. The service was good. It was also expedient, albeit a little reserved. This was a 3-star event and, going forward, I will continue to look for other Italian (and Sicilian) restaurants in the area. I would love to know of an authentic Sicilian restaurant in the agglomeration that is Montreal. The very first Italian restaurant at which I ate in Montreal was just up the street, at Stanely and Maisonneuve. Either a Chapters or a newer building went in. That restaurant was more of a diner, which explains why it wouldn't be there - close to the financial district - anymore. Change can be hard to accept. I remember that that was also the first time I had heard the term rose' sauce. This is what Eastern Canada refers to a pink tomato-cream sauce. The middle-aged dark-haired woman who helped me had to have been from the western part of Montreal or its island, spoke perfect English with mannerisms suitable for an Italian neighborhood the Northeastern U.S., and looked like Kaye Ballard. I would have preferred a restaurant like that to this one for the price-quality rapport of the food and a Rue Stanley/Financial District location. If you are a tourist and your time is metered, I might skip this one. If you are a local, you can try Restaurant Siciliana for pizzas and/or pasta and see if it suits you.

Inside this little place there are maybe a dozen tables ... mostly for two. The place was casual, unpretentious, and relatively inexpensive. Service was friendly and spot on. Now the owner who drew us in - whatever his name - does it all here. He seated us, we saw him clean off some tables, and he goes back and forth in the kitchen personally making each dish. He had only two helpers ... one doing dishes and the other helping wait the tables especially when he was fixing a plate. The meals are essentially light pasta with light sauces ... nothing much heavy here. It is meant to be a quick lunch spot, and only stays open a while after hours. The menu - posted in the front window - is written on a sheet of paper and usually is about 8 different pastas and sauces; after you sit at a table you will find that the current list is generally smaller as they have run out of stuff during the day. Be that as it may, it was pretty good food. We had the Canelloni Rossini (4 stars with a light red sauce), Penne Arrabbiata (4 stars with another very light sauce), and a Calypso Salad (4 stars with very nice greens). The big takeaway was that he can make any kind of quick pasta and put any one of his light sauces on it for a quick meal. The sauces were nice - very light but nice. The pastas could have been a bit fresher. Interestingly, they only take cash - and that is not mentioned on the front window. He does have an ATM machine inside to help you cover the cash, but he should really announce this out front, especially for all the tourists that are in Montreal. Our bill came to $70 and he wrote down $80 ... maybe he included the tip for us - don't know, but pay attention to your bill on the way out. In fairness, the prices are reasonable here - $4.95 for a glass of the house Chianti, and every one of the pasta meals were simply $9.95. Canoli were $6.00 each.
