Me and my family have been coming to gallegos for many years now, but lately the food from Gallegos hasn't been the best like it used to be. Me and my brother ordered California burritos like we always do and they always add too much sour cream now. Gallegos service is good the employees are always respectful and the environment is always clean. I really love going to gallegos but you guys need to start making the food like y'all use to! Look as someone who has lived in city heights my entire life. Gallegos is a staple. A hole in the wall and completely unassuming. It was the first taco shop I've ever been to as a child and it continues to be a guilty pleasure. That being said, I'll be honest, like many others before me who speak on the quality. I can support the claim that it isn't what it used to be. But as a carne asada fries connoisseur I can without a doubt say that their carne asada fries are top 5 in the county. This is my favorite place for mini al pastor tacos! The pork is well marinated, cooked well so it's not dry but moist and tender. I usually ask for extra limes to squeeze over my tacos- perfection! The horchata is amazing as well. I always get one for myself and another one for my husband. This place is more miss than hit. I gave this place a couple of chances before assuming the worst but every time I order from this place, something is wrong. The first time, I called in an order for pick up so I can be quick. I arrive, pay for my order, and the next customer orders the same thing and when the order is ready, she ends up giving the burrito to that same customer. The second time, I order a breakfast burrito with bacon and she charges me for the wrong item( which happens to be more) and the burrito was small. The last time and final straw that made me want to write this review, had to be the customer service. read more

I have to say these guys have a pretty good enchilada sauce, but it was the inside of the enchiladas that I thought needed some improvement. I ordered the combo which came with my choice two chicken enchildas, rice, refried beans, and a healthy serving of tortilla chips and house salsa. The meal was $7 and some change. It's funny, I liked everything about the enchiladas except the chicken inside. Some one argue that it's the most important part of an enchilada, but I would beg to differ and go with the sauce itself and how the corn tortillas preparation goes. They used the dark meat of the chicken which I did not mind in pollo asada and such, but it seemed out of place in these enchiladas. The meat had a dark color that was not appealing and was a bit on the greasy side. I would of preferred shredded all white chicken that had been stewing in a light sauce or something similar to a chicken tinga. It's sure s hard to replicate mother's enchiladas. Anyways, the corn tortillas were treated right. They were lightly fried, damped off, then bathed in a hot bubbling deep red enchilada sauce. This process gave the corn tortillas the right texture and the sauce had very nice traditional flavors. The sauce offered deep rich chili flavor and had a smooth consistency. I love it. Both the rice and beans were good and typical for such a meal. The tortilla chips were crispy and the house salsa was tasty and packed some heat. I really feel these enchiladas would be much better if they would focus on the chicken they put inside of it. Just a little TLC and we'll have a winner. read more

From the outside, it doesn't really seem like there would be a taco shop inside...I guess the inside is better than what you would think on the outside. There's quite a lot of seating here, there's a good menu at fair prices. The staff is nice and the food came out pretty quickly, but that depends on what you order and how many people are there. I only got a breakfast burrito, with beans, eggs, potatoes, cheese. They use fries, but seem more fresh cut that the oily type. For the price, it's a very large burrito, it can be hard to finish. If you dine-in, you also get chips and salsa. There are two types of salsa - a more green salsa with cilantro and onion, and a well blended dark red one. Both are pretty spicy.
