    Chicken tostada

Free chips and salsa- chips are ok, salsa is good and spicy. I ordered a chicken tostada. I enjoyed it! Shredded juicy chicken and had topping of beans, lettuce, and I ordered guac and sour cream as extras. I liked the food, the vibe, and enjoyed the Mexican decor.

Tacos are tacos but this place was eh... My husband and I have always drove by this place and wanted to to stop and check it out. Kinda wish we didn't. I ordered an horchata thinking it was going to be home made, but it was that powder klass stuff instead that was so disappointing. They also gave us free chips and salsa. The chips were your average chips, but the salsa... was so good and spicy... I got four tacos with three different meats, two chicken, carnitas, and pastor and none of them really shouted muy bien! They were all right nothing special but not terrible either. My husband ordered the super burrito but wanted chorizo which they served but refused to put in a burrito (confused) so he asked for Chile Colorado burrito but not available so he asked for Chile verde burrito finally yes they had it but decided to give it to him in a plate not what he asked for but charged us for it. The Chile verde was eh also nothing special but not terrible although the beans and rice were bland and not very good. We went during the day so it wasn't busy at all food came really quick usually not a good sign, all in all this place didn't really hit especially when we can cook better than what we were served we won't be coming back again. The restaurant itself was cute lots of Mexican decorations and seamed authentic. To bad the food didn't reflect that.

The servings are generous and prices are very reasonable considering how expensive things are these days. However, I must say I was not impressed with the flavor as it felt a bit bland. Service was excellent

**Cash Only Please** I have always been curious of this Mexican restaurant but never had the opportunity to try it. Upon walking it I was instantly mesmerized with all the colors the feeling of being in Mexico. I especially liked all the photographs on the walls and the Piedra Del Sol that is commonly known incorrectly as the Aztec Calendar. Now to what I came here for: I tried the tacos at $1.60 each not bad. carne asada, and chile verde were my favorite. I also had al pastor and chicken. Had chips and salsa; not a fan of the salsa not spicy, thankfully being a Tapatio girl I added some of that to give it spice. In all I would definitely come back here, I like the fact that it is family owned and El Senor Gallegos was friendly. dos 28 doce

The best TACO ever. So delicious, juicy, and flavorful. Never heard of them before and I got to say- I missed the one. Fantastic! I will be back for more.

The food totally lives up to the hype. Some of the best flavor combinations I have ever had here in Berkeley (Very high praise). The dos Mole dish is a must, both mole are rich and flavorful with one chocolatey and one savory. The tacos are also to die for, you really cannot go wrong with any of them but I recommend trying the fish tacos or mole tacos if you need to choose. I have had a beer and marg here and both were great, no complaints what so ever! They are pretty fast and always sure to check in on how you are enjoying your meal. There is also quite a bit of seating so reservations aren't particularly needed on regular weekdays!

But only in recent months has it become my absolute favorite place for Mexican food in Berkeley. With an extensive menu, fresh flavors, super friendly staff, a great energy, and plenty of outdoor seating, it's a vibe. Sometimes I get to go, sometimes I eat here with the family, and always, it's great. PS: the chile relleno plate is a go-to.

My party ordered the verde enchiladas, vegetarian burrito, platanos, and flan. Enchiladas - filled with chicken and the sauce was spicy. However, it wasn't very flavorful, just hot. The rice and beans were very disappointing. Bland and the cheese on the beans was cold, stiff, and clumped. Vegetarian burrito - Delicious! No complaints. Platanos - Served over refried beans with a super unappetizing sauce splashed on top. The taste was just okay but I've had better. Flan - definitely a different texture than the average flan. Overall, it wasn't something to drive home about but it was cool. Overall, the lunch wasn't bad but it wasn't great nor was ti worth almost $80. I may come back to try the tacos, which seem to be a top seller, but I'll hold off on anything else.

Both were excellent and paired very well with their salsa. Carne asada was cooked and cut perfectly, and tasted much better than when I had it in burritos in the past. Al pastor is very authentic and tastes better than most you can find in the area. Generous amount of onions (and some pineapple for the pastor). I really really enjoyed this, and I'm happy to have this option here in my neighborhood. Only negative is that their tortillas seem to collapse under the general sauciness. I usually prefer to have my salsa on the side, so maybe that's on me. Came out to about $15 for the three tacos which is pretty pricey. However, you do get some chips and salsa for free, and the quality of the food is pretty high. I'm reasonably happy to pay this price to support a nice establishment in my community. The place is clean and recently renovated, with a fairly friendly staff willing to accommodate customizations and requests. I will probably start coming here a lot more regularly after this most recent visit!

It has a unique menu, delicious food, and a trendy ambiance. Because she decided on this place the day of, she couldn't get a reservation but we showed up at 6 pm on a Thursday and had a table for five inside by 6:30. We waited at the bar and had drinks including a spectacular paloma-esque and local beer on tap. I can't have dairy but the chef made modifications on the duck enchiladas rojas. Everything was a flavor bomb in the best way except the duck had bones inside the enchiladas which made me think it was chicken thigh (looked the same). The rest of the guests loved their plates but we found the sizes of the plates odd. For example, the Mexican street corn was a huge plate of about 3 ears of corn but the tamal was just one tamal (for $15!) The service was very attentive despite a busy restaurant. They automatically charge a 20% service fee regardless of size of group. I appreciated that they didn't rush us out but I didn't like that they charged us for the birthday flan.

My fiancé has had this place on his radar to try for a while because, as a chef himself, he has…read morerespect for chef Matt (owner). We had regular margaritas (they make them from a house made mix, not to order) and Al Pastor cocktail which were interesting... Drinks were just average. The food was average as well. We had chips and guacamole, white shrimp ceviche, which needed a bit of salt, tiny barbacoa tacos (I've had much better barbacoa, this was mushy and tasted a bit like pet food), and a chicken quesadilla. We had a reservation, but had to wait about 15 minutes for a table, and unfortunately, when we were sat, we were sat at the first table by the door where people congregate to wait for their tables. Also, I believe our reservation was for a patio table and that was completely ignored. My least favorite thing about this place was the fake, phony waitress (huge fake smile and forcefully loud, high pitched voice) who was too impatient to wait for our order. She asked if we were ready to order and as my fiancé started to formulate his thought, she said, "I'll give you more time!" And started to walk away. I stopped her and let her know we were ready and she got a higher, and louder pitch to her voice, and an even more fake smile, and repeated in a very impatient and robotic tone "Are you ready to order some food?" I was taken aback and just couldn't do it... We asked for a different server, and a nicer, but slightly awkward young lady served us instead. They automatically charge a 20% service fee, so we expected service to match. The problem with a place that automatically charges a 20% service fee is that the wait staff doesn't really care about the service they give because they will be tipped no matter what caliber of service they provide. As far as the ambiance, it was hard to tell since we were sat at the door... nothing like looking at butts while eating your meal. Absolutely not the experience we had hopped for after having this one our "must try" list for nearly 3 years.
