I just ran across their Yelp profile this evening so I thought I'd post a review. We had our…read morewalkway and front porch done a few years ago and they did a fantastic job! Everyone we dealt with was extremely professional and personable. We have received many compliments since it was installed. A great family owned business!

I appreciated their attention to detail and their craftsmanship. Also, Jeremiah patiently answered all my questions throughout the entire process -- from the free estimate at our house through the completion of both projects. He also made several excellent recommendations regarding color, stain, layout, design and so forth. The new concrete walkway and stoop/threshold (with matching pavers) took years off the appearance of our house, which was built in 1969. The back patio also looks fantastic! They removed the original 4 concrete slabs, as well as some pavers that we had installed ourselves as a temporary fix several years ago. All of that was replaced by stamped concrete that was antiqued and sealed. One of our friends commented that the patio now resembles a European old world square. In addition, the project significantly increased the usable outdoor living space. We have received numerous compliments on both masonry projects from friends and neighbors. I would give Jeremiah and his crew 5 stars for the finished projects. I highly recommend their work! In fact, I would have given a 5 star review OVERALL but there were a couple issues that precluded me from doing so. First, I was told that the work at our house would begin between 8:00 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. but no one showed up until approximately 3:30 p.m. [They had been at another site working on a concrete project that had been delayed due to rain earlier that week]. I understand scheduling conflicts can happen, especially with businesses that are at the mercy of Mother Nature. However, I would have appreciated a simple phone call to keep me in the loop. Throughout the morning and early afternoon I left voice messages with the contractor and Masonry Specialist, LLC. I sent a couple emails to the company. I even posted a message on Masonry Specialist's Facebook page. It was only through Facebook that I received a response. The second -- and main reason -- I gave 4 stars instead of 5 has to do with the way the final payment process was handled. Our two projects combined were not inexpensive. Therefore, I wanted to take advantage of my credit card companies' rewards programs. I emailed Masonry Specialist and asked if I could put half the project cost on one card (to get air miles) and half on another card (to get points). Brandy at Masonry Specialist responded via email, "We can certainly accept credit cards, however, they charge us a 3.5% fee -- with two transactions, they would charge us 2x -- we prefer cash or check due to this." I suggested a compromise. I said I could send a check that day for half the payment and then immediately call her with a credit card number to pay the remaining amount. Brandy responded that she would be happy to accommodate. HOWEVER, she would pass on the 3.5% credit card fee to me. What?!? Since I wasn't thrilled with the idea of having to pay more than we both had originally agreed to, I wrote a personal check for the entire amount and mailed it to the company. Masonry projects can be costly. I doubt that all families have large sums of cash at their disposal. I would hope that Masonry Specialist, LLC would reconsider its policy of charging customers a fee for the convenience of using credit cards. That would be a 5-star idea.

He took over an hour to measure everything and sent me the lumber quote he received so that I was fully informed, then we talked labor. He would point out problematic areas (like rotting framing) and would ask me if I wanted to have it replaced rather than just covering it up with the new surface. He did an amazing job that had my mom's tenants and the neighbors complementing the work and I felt the price was very reasonable. Based on that job, I brought him out to take a look at my townhouse to possibly replace the siding and he suggested sanding, priming and painting instead due to the price of replacement. They sanded almost every square inch of it, primed it (in some areas twice) with a peeling paint primer that is like glue to fill in gaps and keep the rest of the old paint from peeling, and then put a double coat over everything. When they finished, I was surprised to find that they had power washed our patio, porch, and front half-height fence and even painted the fence though we never talked about doing any of that work. I felt compelled to pay him extra. Deck Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wELQYf0YGKY

I'm leaving this review to share a balanced but honest account of my experience. While the end…read moreresult of the project was acceptable, the process was far more complicated and frustrating than it needed to be. The sales interaction set the tone with high‑pressure tactics, including statements like "this price is only available today." We moved forward anyway because we knew we wanted the work done. When I later asked to adjust the scope, the salesperson resisted for nearly ten minutes before agreeing to send a revised contract. The first crew delivered solid work on the drain line and concrete, but the vapor barrier installation was sloppy--uneven trimming, gaps, and inconsistent application. They also removed a board supporting the incoming water line without explanation, leaving it hanging from a wire and damaging the clamp. Their initial attempt to "fix" it involved taping the board to a pipe, which was not a proper or safe solution. The sump pump outlet was also installed in a way that caused the discharge pipe to partially block it, putting pressure on the plug. Communication was another major issue. I was never given a dedicated point of contact. I had to reach out to the salesperson again just to report problems. He forwarded my concerns to the office, and I was eventually contacted by Christal. She was professional and genuinely helpful, but her phone number repeatedly showed as disconnected, and only some text messages went through. I had to call the main line each time and ask to be routed to her. A week later, two crews returned and corrected the vapor barrier, repaired the board, and moved the outlet so it was no longer obstructed. The final work met expectations, but the overall experience involved unnecessary sales pressure, communication challenges, and multiple days off work for corrections and inspections.

He said he would refer it to a tech to get back to me right away. Five (5) days later the tech calls me to ask what I needed. TOO LATE BUDDY! I had to -- and did -- find a fix myself. Ordinarily one might say, "so what's the big deal", and I would agree. The difference is that I have spent thousands (50, 60, 70, more?) on JES for a variety of issues. However, that did not seem to guarantee me any increased access to a timely return call for my emergency need. Methinks they are getting too big to be responsive company.

First Choice Chimney Service was wonderful to work with! Our house was having chimney/wood stove…read moreair flow problems and we hired Michael to add an outside air intake. This was to improve efficiency and heat output by helping our older wood stove achieve optional combustion temperatures. We also wanted to avoid an issue where soot had blasted through any crevice in the stove twice when oxygen level shifted quickly (at least that is what I think was the issue; I am no expert). This outside air intake would also help oxygen not be depleted in the room. It was an unusual request to make because of the type of wood stove we have but we wanted to make the system more functional and Michael installed the intake. He did good work the first day but I wanted to comment on his helpfulness the second day he came over. After the install of the air intake, the downstairs of our house was very cold because outside air was streaming through those same crevices that soot got through. Michael came back quickly after we called to add special insulation where he could on the stove and around the pipe/tubing leading outside. He made sure everything was sealed extra well and also put in a sort of switch thing to open and close the tubing when needed. This cold air coming in was not Michael's fault; it was because of the kind of non-pedestal older wood stove we have. I don't think any of us realized how many crevices there were that air would seep through. We are grateful that Michael came back to do these extra steps and fix our system at no extra charge. It was obvious he wanted to make sure we were happy with the work overall, and we are. We would hire him again and probably will if we have future issues or want to install a new stove one day!
