Galaxy Skateway was a fun afternoon for us. To be able to rent shoes and go skate for aome physical fun now-a-days is very cool still. Galaxy skate had a whole system in place, with payment to picking skates to people helping in the skate rink. Fun lights and definitely temperature controlled so it was cool inside. This is a big plus since you work up a sweat sometimes going fast. Entrance feels not the happiest and a little unwelcoming - would suggest the front security person and register person have a little training in customer service and a smile. Its OK to be tough and be kind. The 1st encounter should always feel welcoming. Price was very clear online so what i expected to pay was accurate. And the skates and tables were nicely spread out. Brought the kids skating to Galaxy Skateway. I have mixed reviews about the location. 50% torn if I'll ever return. Liked: - The gentleman greeting you at the door was very nice. - The concession stand having a great variety of food to choose from. - That they offered lockers, rollerblades and speed skates. - Music played was great. - Staff members I did come in contact with (getting skates, getting food, and on the skate floor) we're all very friendly. Did not like: - The older lady taking payments was not friendly at all. She had to repeat my total a couple of times due to the window being so high up, you can not hear her talk over the music. - Everyone has to pay to enter even if you don't skate. (I skated) - The two young men working the skate floor having to walk it. I've been to so many skate rinks in all states and 99% of the workers working/monitoring the skate floor are on skates. Galaxy Skateway is expensive and they offer no safety equipment (knee/elbow pads) for use included in the price. The safety holders on wheels for training and beginners are only for certain sizes and cost an additional $5. For reference, my big 12 year old couldn't use it due to his size, he quickly got discouraged and quit. It was a waste of money for him. For reference, Round 1 in Pembroke Lakes Mall (upstairs in Spo-Cha) includes the use of elbow/knee/wrist pads and the safety holders on wheels are offered first-come first-serve, as well as free locker usage. Round 1 sells the usage of the upstairs facilities in 90 min increments, not from 10am to 4:30 pm like Galaxy, but you don't need much longer than that, my kiddos were done in 90 minutes. Also one of my kids brought their own skates, so we didn't pay for their skate rental, and in total it was $85 for a fam of 4. There were camps coming in and out and tons of kids who could not skate constantly falling down in front of you. The building is old and sketchy and my kids were scared to go inside at first. Not worth it, go anywhere else but here. 2 stars bc at least 2/3 of my kids enjoyed going. read more

This place gives colonizer vibes. You are greeted immediately by signs barking prohibitions that reek of disdain and disrespect for the business's mostly Black patrons even as the business is nestled in the heart of a Black and brown community. Waivers asking for confidential personal identifiable information are collected in paper form in an open basket on a half size wall separating the entrance from the exit that makes clear your confidential information will be treated with carelessness, not confidentially. The all white or white appearing staff that collects and counts money behind glass panes treat you as if they are doing you a favor by taking your $20 fare - a flat price on weekend evenings that apparently disregards whether you are renting skates or not, just watching your kids or showing up with only an hour left to skate. There is no attempt at an equitable pricing scheme that would even remotely suggest the management sees its customers' needs, no matter how many times one patronizes this joint. The carpeted floors outside the rink give the appearance of having been there since the first concrete slab was laid or since the outhouse flapping doors were installed in the dilapidated bathrooms where it seems at least one wall hanging soap bin always resides in a puddle of nonpotable water on the unkempt sink. The rentable skates get a spritz of lysol before they are back in circulation and, for those who wear half sizes in shoes, they will cut off your circulation or give you blisters because they will not fit and I'm pretty sure management gives no cares about it --- you were warned in bold all cap red letters on the glass where you paid that there will be absolutely no refunds. Only cash quarters go into the lockers cause management can't resist nickling and diming you one last time- and technology be damned. So most folks just leave their shoes and bags on tables nearby. Speaking of the tables -did I mention that despite the collection of staff hanging out in the glass cage, the tables will see no parts of a wash rag or sponge in the hours that pass from when the doors open. Sit at your own risk of your clothes being the sponge and at the risk of never breaking free from the sticky substances holding onto you that would make Spiderman proud. Through the night, cups and plates pile up. And don't blame the customers -- this place ain't building the kind of good will that makes you want to fight the carpet in your skates to go and seek out a trash bin. I haven't seen a rating in the food section, but I doubt seriously the health department is handing out gold stars here and, if they are, they should probably stop in more frequently. We've already established customer service is not a value so no need to talk about the canteen experience. Probably rudest of all is the DJ who frequently stops the music to chastise skaters as if he's yelling at his bad @$$ kids. He should be as they say "chastising his own self" for that tired on repeat every week playlist -- who can't figure out roller skating beats? The straw that broke the proverbial back for me was when a colonizer in training-- somebody's teenaged son -- decided to police grown Black folks to chase them off the rink when a full 15 minutes of your $20 fare won't gain you rink admission unless you are what they call without any explanation or warning on any of the blaring bold signs a "shuffle" skater. While the DJ simply says, "beginner skaters and slow skaters leave the rink," apparently boy colonizer translates that -- under what he insists are management orders -- as anyone who doesn't have on their own skates and are in the ill-fitting unmatched rented skates - I guess you gotta draw a bright line somewhere no matter how illogical or dumb. It makes at least part of a crew feel special, I guess. Sadly, though, that's the only 15 minutes when the music is skatable. One final note -- there is no wifi for customers and your phone mysteriously goes dead once inside the metal doors. Though the colonizer staff will lie and, in the rudest possible way, verbally bark "THERE IS NO WIFI," even when the Galaxy Free network shows up in a phone scan but needs a password, which apparently is not advisable to give out to the natives. We are not supposed to believe our lying eyes or technology, I guess. In any event, whenever my daughter asks to go skating, I feverishly search and pray that a Harlem Nights black-owned rink has appeared anywhere in South Florida (and I'm willing to drive an hour or more) that shows her how she is supposed to be treated as a valued customer and that still passes on the culturally-rich Roll Bounce tradition I grew up with. read more

The roller rink is nice, I didn't get any food cause it just seemed too pricey for the quality, the employees were very rude, online they had a discounted price of $10 for Wednesday June 18th I came in around 6:30 and they told me it was $12, when I tried to show them the picture on THEIR website he just rudely insisted it was $12, I don't mind paying but it's a miscommunication on THEIR end that could've been treated a bit more kindly! Even some apology on their end for having the wrong information out would be nicer! Two men in the front were being extremely rude to me and OTHER guests about it! I stopped by with Dan C and a few other friends this Saturday for a fun and fit afternoon, as well as the chance to try something I hadn't in a long minute. Yes, I fell a couple of times. I think that's part of the fun and experience of roller skating. But they do have a wood railing on the wall for noobs like myself to hold on and try to glide. The floor was well maintained for aerodynamics. The music was mostly disco and clean version of hip hop songs since when we went it a large part of the crowd was more families. There's an adult, hip hop skate event on weekends for next time. They have a wide selection of skates for rent - both classics as well as roller blades. They do have a snack bars for burgers and such, but I didn't partake this time around. read more

My daughter wanted to go here on a day off from school. Neither one of us had every been here before. It was ok. The staff was friendly. The prices are fine as long as you skate for a couple of hours. The snack bar was not fully operational. She really just wanted to play the video games and only skated for probably 30-45 minutes. If I could give this place, zero stars I would. The staff here was very unprofessional, and very rude. I came here on a field trip with my school, and upon walking in the door, we were met with a look of disgust by the main lady who works in the front desk. She is the only older lady who works at the establishment. I believe her name was Ms. Cathy. She has grey hair. She was about to turn away 70+ kids who had done paperwork to attend this field trip that they worked so hard for it, it wasn't until she did the extra work of looking up the name that she was able to see that the reservations were made, and we were in the correct place. Overall I felt unwelcome in this establishment. We were even told that we cannot sit at certain tables because we weren't 'paying customers' however our organization had spent lots of money to bring our scholars to this establishment. read more

Not sure why the bad reviews but we had a blast on that Saturday matinee block. The hardwood floor is super smoot and large enough for beginners to practice and the experienced ones to go around. The skates for rent were in fantastic shape and were really easy to switch after I found my size was too small. The music at that time wasn't the best but they have to keep it very family friendly. They do have a hip hop party on Saturdays at 7pm for adults only. I'm going to check them out soon. Prices are reasonable. read more

This is my first time here in a while, i am 14 and don't know how to stake the best. I went to go ask for a walker and the staff said "You're to tall." How are you too tall for a walker to help you learn how to skate. Some little kid saw i was struggling and offered me his. As soon as i took 3 steps with it a worker comes over and says "Whoses walker is that" and i replied it's the little kids he let me borrow it the worker doesn't ask any questions n takes it from me n gives it to the little kid. My kids love this place even with the bumps, bruises and falls. The place has plenty of parking and is sort of a warehouse. Inside there's an entry area where you pay at a window for admission and skates. There's a security guard at the door who checks your bags. No outside drinks or food are allowed. Once inside you can rent a "tube helper with wheels" if needed for those of you who are learning to skate. I'm not sure what its called but that's what it looks like. The place is very old school. Carpet around the area of chairs and seats. A few arcade games, bathrooms and skate rental at the end, and a food bar. You must come early if you want to find a place to seat. Lots of birthday parties take a lot of room. Music is great! It was pretty crowded, but the kids were able to skate with no problem. They have a few helpers inside the rink to make sure you are not holding on for too long or going against the flow of traffic. Sometimes they help pick you up off the floor. They did a few games inside the rink which stopped us from going around for maybe 15-20 minutes since the kids doing the game were better skaters than my kids. So we had to get off the floor. BONUS: I was able to come in the rink with my little one in regular shoes and help her go around. That was great since I don't know how I would of done it if I had to wear skates. Definitely worth checking out. It's a different experience. read more

Music was inappropriate for my young children. When I complained to the manager she said she doesn't listen to it. She lets her staff pick the music. I have four kids it's an expensive treat for us to go to the skating rink they insisted I buy their water. When I said we would get the water from the car when thirsty they said we would have to pay the entry fee each time we entered. The movie theater, museums, etc didn't treat us this way. read more

The employees are friendly, they have snacks and drinks, and cheap lockers are available (bring quarters). Fun music, too. So, it's been nearly 4 decades since I had been on skates & decided that is how I wanted to spend my birthday. Went on "Flashback Thursday", I have to tell you, the staff made it the best night ever. Walking in the door, we were greeted by Ty, who was absolutely awesome. Travia was at the register & greeted us with a smile, & she was so nice. Putting on my 50 yr old skates, things didn't roll quite like I had remembered. I made several trips into their pro shop & was amazed at the customer service from the staff. Kyle & Joseph spent so much time getting my skates adjusted to allow me to re-live my youth at least 1 more time. I even contemplated just buying new skates and Kathy told me, "they really don't make skates like they used to", made me feel wonderful and not so ancient. My jaw dropped when I heard how inexpensive new skates were. Incredible Prices! The music was great, the people on the floor could skate their as---s off & I just wanted to get in that line & shuffle with the crowd... not quite yet.
