The best store in town to get your fish!!!! So long as you want to get sick fish that will ruin your tank. I read all the reviews and still chose to give them a shot because it's locally owned. Well the sick fish from here got my fish sick and wiped out my tank in a matter of two hours. They think everyone is dumb and they can spew bullshit out their mouth and tell you it's your fault. Blake said our nitrates our out of control and our test stripes that we bought from HERE are not accurate. Lol what kind of a clown show is this ! I urge you, drive to Sacramento and go to aquarium depot ! This place is worse than Petco! Paws and claws is an awful rescue and should not be allowed to sell their animals in your store. They do not conduct themselves in a transparent manner, my experience with them was her trying to make a profit on a dog they did not put a nickel into and took from the owner for a quick flip at 350.00. I am so disappointed with this store! I had high expectations and heard a lot of good things and looking forward to meeting the tortoise that greets all the customers. Unfortunately, when we took the drive up there from Sacramento, my husband told me the tortoise died because somebody fed the tortoise food. So sad. We were greeted at the front door when we entered and left to look around with no assistance after. The store was lacking in quality of products and there was not much to see especially in the saltwater aquarium department. **The dog and cat lady needs to go. Paws and claws go's to at least CL and others for free pets then poof, flips them for a profit. I got told that she had called the day I picked up the puppies I got, but I had already made pick up arrangements. So, I beat her out of the two cutest little things. A brother and sister small pair of puppies. They are house pets now. Not for resale. Not for adoption. AND no small cage torture sitting in cages all day waiting to get adopted. I had to get help from the front desk because one puppy had been hanging there by 1 leg. How long? She wasn't there it was lunch time. I know the little dude couldn't even sit down. It was caught up in the torn blanked covering the top of its crate shielding it from the sun in the Big front window. In stacks with cat's and cat box's under them fully loaded with cat poo. Nasty smelly and sad. I don't know how she gets away with it. **Second a working Websight would be nice, this is the year 2025. Would be nice to see what the store actually has, so I don't make the trip 3 towns over to find out there is nothing there. A couple times of that and poof, Game over.. Back to Roseville. It's just as far the other direction; beside the fact I won't come home empty handed x2. This place could be a really nice place but the animals in their care should come before all. Staff is now a bunch of young girls who dress extremely unprofessional, provide terrible service & appear to have No interest nor Any enthusiasm about helping the people who provide profits to their employer who provides their paychecks... let alone taking care of the poor animals they sell. I recently came in and purchased a fish with my son, he was very excited. We were impressed with the variety of fish and animals available, and they all looked fantastic, but what was best was the crew working that day. It was the 4th of July, but they all had great attitudes and were extremely helpful. The young man in the fish room was very patient with my son, answering his questions, and there were many! This is a locally owned business that has been around for many years, they have a knowledgeable staff and a respectful understanding of how and what to do when treating and taking care of each pet. I had the pleasure of dealing with Blake ; He was very helpful, and respectful. It is very difficult to get the proper information when looking for it but when you come across someone who knows what they're talking about and who can assist you properly. I'd say Gaiser Pets is the way to go if you need any amphibian, fish, and even dogs and cats! I have been coming here for over 10 years now. Love the products and looking at the animals. However I dont know if anyone else is annoyed with the rudeness of the the older lady the cashier with the curly bleach blond hair in pig tails most days. I don't know why or how she has been employed there this long or why they would chose to keep her as the face of the business when she is horrible and rude to customers. Her attitude and mannerisms are the absolute worst. I hate having to engage with her when checking out and needing to ask her for roaches or mice behind the counter. The poor girl looks like and acts like she hates life, her job and everyone around her. I think being a cashier is definitely not her cup of tea. read more

I go here every two weeks to get snake food. They r the cheapest i have found in a 100 mile radius for live feed and almost always have a full range of age options. I purchased a fish for 32.00 two days ago and now the fish is dead. The manager said there is ick in the tank it came out of but my purchased fish may or may not have been affected. They did not refund my money however because I don't have a receipt....even though the manager remembers me from a few days ago. Bottom line...Gaiser puts donated fish into the same tanks as fish for sale WITHOUT any quarantine process. How irresponsible is that. Lots of improvement. Great job team. The livestock appear much healthier and their tanks are a lot cleaner. The fish room has been upgraded and is looking great. Freshwater fish selection is pretty good and I'm hoping the new saltwater tanks will allow for a better variety of livestock in the future. The main staff are friendly, knowledgable, and have excellent chemistry as a team. I'll give the (what appears to be seasonally hired or volunteering) teenagers the benefit of the doubt as they are doing honest work. I used to love coming to this store! They had a variety of birds and reptiles that all seemed very healthy and well taken care of. Went in today and was disappointed at no employees wearing masks. Their reptile area is super crammed with enclosures, whereas it used to have ample cage space for each species. The topper for me was an employee walking around with what looked like a panther chameleon, loudly talking about how the store just paid $400 for it and now it's dying. The store has changed.....it's very sad that it lost the mom and pop feel it had just a few years ago. read more

We travel from Chico because of the service and variety of salt water fish and supplies. We recently purchase 2 8wk old Guinea Pig brothers from them. They came with the entire setup. Great selection of reptiles and amphibians. Some item pricing that didn't seem too bad at first. I did however get charged incorrectly for 3 items because of "incorrect labeling". I was able to get a return for the difference of one item because it actually had a price tag on it. The other two items were per pound, and the cashier told me they were priced correctly. I asked if she could go correct the signage In the back of the store, since I felt mislead. The cashier didn't give me my original receipt back and didn't seem like she loved her job (but in defense the poor lady had her kid at work with her probably because she had no choice). We adopted two kittens from a cat rescue that operates out of here and found it to be one of the most interesting pet stores we have experienced, especially compared to the corporate sterility of Petco and PetSmart, which dominate the Sacramento market. The joint was jumping with animal life - a couple-dozen rescue cats and a few dogs; wonderfully vocal young conures; a terrific display aquarium featuring a large and beautiful catfish; and an enormous rhino iguana that climbed out of its open enclosure and wandered outside to hang with passers-by as it basked in the sun. I may drive-up from Sacramento once in awhile just to spend time with all the critters. read more

I made an order for 4 electric blue acara cichlids and when I did I was told that they were 12.99 each and would arrive within a week. However, I had to wait two weeks for my order and then I was charged 15.99 each when I was promised a price of 12.99. When I went to pick them up they told me that the 12.99 price is for the fish in the original bag however they ordered five when I specifically ordered 4. Therefore, they tried forcing me to purchase 5 acara cichlids and if you crunch the numbers, they still charged me for the price of 5 acara cichlids at the price of 12.99 each which is 4 acara cichlids at the price of 15.99 for each. They intentionally mislead their customer, took advantage of their customer, lied to their customer, and scammed their customer. This is not how run a business. I would not do business with them there are many other places that won't rip you off or take advantage of you based on you appearance or presumed knowledge. read more

When I got in the car I realized the painted turtle had a white spot but I didn't think anything of it cause they didn't say anything about it. We love this place. They have an excellent assortment of supplies and so many pets to choose from! The cats and dogs that they have in store are up for adoption as they allow a rescue to house animals there to increase chances of adoption. We adopted 2 sweet cats last year from here. They are very helpful after the adoption process and are always willing to assist you should any problems occur down the road. The fish selection is phenomenal and the tanks were well maintained and the fish all appeared healthy. They also have a great variety of reptiles, amphibians, birds, and rabbits. read more

This place is probably the coolest pet store I've ever been to! They have a lot of different stuff. And the fact they have a big tortoise roaming the place that you can greet makes this place a memorable experience. They also have a lot of other cool things to see! I can not believe that in a global pandemic none of the employees, as well as the "pet rescue" they run through the back, can not seem to enforce mask wearing or wear a mask themselves. I will be reporting this shop as well as the Deb's Paws and Claws to Butte County as well as the Yuba City Health Department as it is a state and county mandate to be masked (at the minimum) at all times in public. Over 300,000 people have died in less then a year due to the coronavirus and at this point I refuse to "let it slide" when people refuse to simply wear a mask and keep their hands clean. read more

Boyfriend bought me a snake from here as a surprise gift and it had mites, when he asked about the dark spots a woman working said it was a pattern that would go away with age.... literally just embedded mites. This is the best pet store for miles. The owner is such a nice man and very generous. The workers are all knowledgeable and helpful. Huge fish selection and they are always healthy. They also offer free water testing and reliable tips. The reptile selection is huge as well and they are well cared for by Richard and he knows absolutely everything about them.
