This happened today, store #1314 Yuba City My wife had a pet grooming appointment today at 8:00. She arrived ten minutes early to a line of people and employees. After waiting about 25 minutes and the store not being open, my wife walked and asked an employee what was going on, and the employee said the manager wasn't there to open the store and it happens "more often than you would think." My wife left, not wanting to wait god knows how long for the store to open. She then got a call telling her we missed our appointment. We didn't miss it, the store was closed. I then tried calling the store to get the corporate office number. The woman on the phone told me it was Melissa's fault. She told me me MELISSA IS THE STORE MANAGER AND SHE WASNT THERE TODAY!!!!! I repeat, she told me #1 Melissa is the store manager, #2 Melissa was in charge of opening the store this morning and #3 she wasn't there today. After I asked why she was in charge of opening the store, if she isn't there today, she admitted that she was Melissa. The woman on Phone told me she, MELISSA, was the store manager, and she, MELISSA, wasn't there today. Wouldn't be surprised if her name wasn't even actually Melissa the pathological liar she is. So CLARA, the actual store manager (if you exit and aren't another made up lie.) I was at this Petco today, 4/27 a bit before 6:40pm and I am so disappointed. One of the birds does not look good at all! It says right on their cages, that a healthy bird is lively. This poor animal was shaking, pressed up against one side, and with such dull colors. He'd open his eyes and shake when a person walk by. My heart goes out to this poor animal locked in that small ass enclosure. read more

This has NOTHING to do with the groomer herself.. I'm a Vital Care Rewards member and today would have been a free grooming service because I reached my 10th "free" service . However!!!!! Because my husband doesn't have the app on his phone, they charged him the regular grooming price. Stay away from the grooming department. They are very unprofessional and immature children. Worst experience ever and will never step foot into this store. I contacted management and was told I would get a call back but have heard nothing. But it's okay we found an amazing groomer that our girls love and we are very happy now. read more

This review is for Kai. When I dropped my dog off for grooming, I let Kai know that she needs time to warm up to new people, otherwise she can be very snappy towards them. She assured me that she would take her time with my dog and get her all cleaned up. I was barely gone for 10 minutes when I got a call from Kai telling me that I needed to come and pick up my dog because my dog wouldn't let Kai pick her up to put on the table and that my dog had bitten her. When I came in to get her, Kai was standing there, almost disgusted with my dog, with NO bit on her hand, despite what she told me on the phone, and also let me know that I wasn't allowed to bring my dog back, and I needed to find a place to muzzle her. Kai, you scared yourself into believing that my 8-pound Pomeranian was a Tasmanian Devil. read more

Jazmin is very nice and seems good with my dog. The problem was that my dog had a 11:30am appointment and I was told it would be a little longer than last visit (as they had multiple walk-ins). My dog wasn't finished until 4:00pm. I asked why I made an appointment if I could walk-in at 9:00am and be first. She said it would probably take just as long if I did. It seems to me if someone has an appointment you would tell the walk-ins you had to take the appointments when they arrive so their pet may have to wait. Simple scheduling issue that should be resolved by Petco or the grooming department. I did cancel my dogs next appointment. read more

Doesn't know why this place has a lot of negative ratings, which I begged to differ. But man, I love shopping here. I save a ton by combining manufacture coupons and Petco Coupons, on top of another discount for being a PetPals rewards... can't beat the best lowest price in town... I prefer Petco over Petsmart, no offense.. and the selection of Treats and Rawhides by the pound, can't beat that! I sofa king love it bro.... Only thing that Petco needs to work better on, is a reliable person behind the cash register to ring up my coupons... cashier had to request for back up because she doesn't know what's she's doing. Some won't scan! And the manager did the magic and punch in my discount w/o even using my coupons... considering I'm a repeat consumer to Petco... Horrible service. My kids left crying because the employee wouldn't sell me a hamster cage for a hamster. Said they only reccomend aquarium tanks with lids? Why do you sell hamster cages then? Perhaps if you want to only sell aquariums for small animal homes have those available in the small animal area? read more

We took my son here today for his 13 th birthday to choose a hamster, and the customer service was terrible! After 20 Minutes of looking at hamsters there were no associates to be found. I found one female employee lying over the register counter on her phone. I asked if we could get some help seeing one of the hamsters and she seemed very bothered. She called for someone, a male employee came out looking very put out and inconvenienced. He opened the cage and my husband asked how old are they? He replied I have no idea, they don't tell us. I went to pet the hamster and he said I dont recommend you touching it. I replied well aren't these pets? He said no they aren't good pets and stood glaring at us...I was quite surprised as I was physically standing in a PET store, surrounded by about 40 potential "pets" along with cages, toys, food, and other PET SUPPLIES ‍ My husband quickly said let's get out of here, and my family and I walked out. As a retail worker and supervisor, I get the pressures that come with the job, and I NEVER leave bad reviews. However we were the only customers in there! We waited for someone to help us over 30 minutes i finally found someone and they told me I had to wait . 3 employees liters went in back room. We waited another 20 minutes. Nobody helped us. They were not busy there was one other customer waiting to be helped. It was terrible. It was Friday dec 9 th around 3:00 pm. Service was awful. Decent selection and decent prices. Here's the positive - some times the sale priced merchandise is worth picking up and saving a trip to a competitor. I like the cute selection of bulk doggie treats and my doggy likes them too... Now, for the negative...what my doggie and I do not like is their grooming services. I brought her here, several years ago, with appointment and was promised she would be ready at a certain time. I returned, only to be curtly told that they are so busy and that they had not even gotten to her yet....what? OK, so I asked if they can call me when she is ready. They agreed, but I never got a phone call. I went back several hours later and she was ready to go but I when I asked where her bows were, as that was included in the price, the lady rudely handed me two write bows and told me to put them on when I got her home as she might rip them off. Let's flash forward to yesterday. My son and I went in for some fish supplies and a few new fish. Several employees were kinda loitering around the store. We finally flagged down a lady and let her know we needed a few fish. She proceeded to lecture us about every single fish we tried to get and just made the experience rather uncomfortable. After she had finally bagged a few fish, she acted very put out that there were no labels for her to mark the prices on. She huffed and puffed around and then finally just said, "oh I will just write it on a piece of paper." Um, okay. Thanks? Not sure if it is worth the hassle to go back there, again. The employees at PetSmart seem much more enjoyable and excited about their jobs. read more

Welp, brought Lou in for a grooming, was told it'd take maybe two hours. So, three hours later I show up kinda worried because I hadn't heard from staff... lo and behold, Lou is sitting in the dryer kennel, where I assume he's been since shortly after he got there. When I asked what was going on, I was told they "got busy", and would finish him up shortly. I said no, I'll take him now, thinking all they needed to do was brush him, which sucks because I had requested extra brush because he's high shed. I get him, he's bone dry, covered in hair, no ear cleaning, no tooth brushing, nothing done, aside from a basic bath and left in the dryer kennel for who knows how long. And, to top it off, he had raging diarrhea from literally getting the sh*t scared out of him from the dryer. Won't be back. read more

I was looking for a pawprints keepsake to help memorialize my little guy & even though it was available in-store online I just wanted to double check because sometimes it isn't. One of the women working (short blonde hair) just seemed really bothered that I was even asking if they carried it. Online it showed that the keepsake was discounted for half the price and when I asked her if they carried it she just flat out said no without even looking. After I showed her that it was available online she then said that they had received the box with the inventory but that every single one was shattered? How does wet clay that hasn't even dried shatter? She didn't even bother to look it up in the system or guide me towards where it might be in the store so I might find it myself and so I had to leave with a more expensive version. I want to be clear that it's not even about the discount, it's just the blatant lying followed by the pure laziness and inability to just simply do her job that sucks. Horrible customer service and employees who lie because they can't be bothered, hard pass. Just shop elsewhere for your pets needs, this isn't the only place in town. I'll also just quickly mention that as of today the product is still showing available in-store SMH. read more

Simba went in for his full service treatment with an extra de shedding brush out and he came home looking so handsome. His coat smelled wonderful and it was soft, all of his excess coat he has been shedding was gone. Great job! read more

Went here in search of a cat after the death of our family cat. Ended up leaving with a Chinchilla! Is it just me or does $140.00 plus tax seem a little pricey for a rodent?!?! Anyway, staff was very helpful and patient while I contemplated the purchase. They have a lot of supplies for small animals, and love to sell them to you! The first day I walked out spending more than $300.00. I go back for all of our pets needs and supplies because it is right down the road from where I live. The only downfall is they don't have cats/dogs for sale in the store. They host "Adoption Days" on a monthly basis. BTW-Love the Chinchilla! They are great pets. Don't smell, low maintenance, and entertaining. Very satisfied with my daughters choice. They only negative is they only live 5-7 years. read more

I used to like shopping at Petco but the people working there don't seem interested in helping customers. About 3 months ago I took my Mini Boxer in for a toenail trim. The Lady we got was very nice and quite professional. First off, I let her know the shelter's description of Cooper on the Rabies Certificate was accurate. I had his DNA ran and it turned out he was a Mini Boxer with some Maltese. I don't remember the lady's name but she treated Cooper kindly and Cooper liked her. Yesterday I took him back to get his nails cut and the girl, not the lady that did Cooper the first time, was not at all professional and Cooper did not care for her. She did not do a neat job on his nails. One nail was jagged. Since I don't remember the name of the lady that did his nails the first time, I will be taking him somewhere else for future grooming. read more

Their grooming team is incredible. I have a very difficult dog both in attitude and in hair type, and they took care of him better than any other place I have gone. The first time I went in they gave me confidence that with time and TLC he would get better with being groomed. They were so incredibly patient with him. They are concerned with the comfort of the dogs they groom and truly want them to have a good experience. They are flexible with appointments, nearly always have an appointment time available but they don't over book themselves. They also have very reasonable prices, and always go over how my pooch did but never ever make me feel guilty if he gave them a tough time. I just love them so much and so grateful for everything they have done for me and my pup. read more

I love this store! The selection of products is great. The customer service is excellent. I always get asked if I need help. They have a great return policy if something doesn't work out well. My dogs didn't like a toothpaste that I bought and they gave me a full refund. I took my 2 mini Australian shepherds to Jonathan for training. He did a great job helping me change my barking babies into well-behaved dogs. We earned the AKC Canine Good Citizen certificates. My mom uses this Petco for grooming her dog. The groomers are so kind and sweet with him. It's a fun place to shop with great customer service. read more

This review is overdue as my experience occurred in August, but it's well deserved. I went to Hawaii for a couple weeks, leaving my 50 lb golden doodle pup at my parents house. My dog is an inside dog but theirs is an outside dog so he was outside with him. Needless to say, when I got back this dog was freaking filthy. Down to the skin covered in dirt. Matting in his fur. It was a mess. I will mention I'm pregnant and was freaking exhausted because I must have called 20 groomers from Yuba city to Sacramento and all said the same thing (including this Petco) - there are no appts available on short notice for a dog this size. I resigned myself to the inevitable hassle I was going to have cleaning him myself and went to Petco after leaving my parents to use the self wash. I walked in and Alicia G greeted me and after I showed her proof of his vaccinations, asked me if I wanted her to do it. I was shocked and simply said, I called earlier and they said there were no appts- she replied with she had a no show and she'd be happy to do it for me before she went home. I paid for a few upgrades (extra conditioning) and waited. She put in the work. The amount of dirt this dog accumulated ... it would have take me a year. She got the matts out and trimmed his hair and nails. He looked amazing and she was so patient and kind. She told me to call her anytime I want to go again and it's no surprise she's always booked when I try. She's amazing and to this day I still appreciate so much what she did for me because I've bathed and trimmed my dog's hair on a good day and it's a hell of a lot of work. This review is solely based on the grooming facility. We brought our golden retriever in for a groom/ear and nail trim. Any professional and educated groomer would know this breed cannot be shaved down - they have an undercoat that can be shaved/cut. Much to our dismay, we picked our dog up and saw that he was shaved nearly all the way down (except for his tail). On top of that not being good for our dog, the shave job was shoddy. Shaved way too close all around but then some areas were shaved down to near skin. Here we are in the middle of winter with an unevenly shaved dog - that should have been groomed with a slight trim. We hope his coat bounces back - it is not good for their coats and it affects the growth going forward. Very disappointing. DO NOT RECOMMEND THEIR GROOMING FACILITY. read more
