Shoot GTR is one of the best ranges for your money. They have reasonably priced ammo, the fee is to shoot for the entire day, and the staff is always incredibly helpful (Alex is the best). If you're looking to get into shooting this is the best place to do it since you can rent several different guns and try them out before you buy them. They also have a good selection of guns and accessories that you can pick up or buy last minute if you forgot yours. The range is outdoors so the noise isn't as bad as shooting indoors and the area is shaded against the sun. I highly recommend this range to all level shooters! read more

Surprisingly had a lot of fun here! The staff is very knowledgeable, many with military and first hand experience, and serious about safety. After the mandatory orientation, beginners can rent handguns, shotguns or rifles, buy bullets/targets, and start shooting! If you don't have a membership, you can only shoot at one of two ranges but that was enough for me. One is shorter and for handguns while the other is longer and for shotguns and rifles. Other people onsite (not staff) were also extremely friendly and helpful, giving us tips on what to do. Also liked that they took safety very seriously and rebuked those who seemed to make small mistakes. Learned a lot about guns, safety, and terminology like bern and cold/hot range. Would recommend to anyone who has curiosity and hasn't tried yet! read more

Nice facility that's not really usable. Former/active Military/LEOs should avoid this range. Might be great for the kids or inexperienced shooters. The mandatory safety class you take before ever stepping on the range briefly covers some of their rules and very basic firearms safety to their standard, and I thought it was a very well done Power Point. The "pro-shooter" class is a joke to people who have even minimal training/experience and is expensive. Different employees interpret the rules differently, so one month you're good doing -fill in task here- and the next month you're not. ALL weapons must be fully cased going to/from you're vehicle, to include holstered pistols. No open carry unless you work there or are a LEO in uniform with badge displayed. No drawing from the holster unless you pay to take the ridiculous "pro-shooter" course, and only on 1 range unless you pay extra, even with a membership. Don't wear a kit or carrier or anything they consider "equipment" unless you carry it, not wear, carry it to a "bay" range and pay $20 hourly to practice with your "equipment". Overall, even with the year long membership, it's extremely expensive, the employees aren't on the same page, there's no "exception" to the "basic" rules for trained LEOs or Military who have the proper IDs/badges/in uniform with issued equipment, without paying on top of your membership dues. read more

Shoot GTR was my first experience at a gun range. I was very nervous, having only shot a shotgun at a skeet range before. However, Shoot GTR requires ALL shooters new to the facility to complete a 30-minute orientation class, which covers range safety, rules, and other details. It also includes a brief tour of the different ranges. Range A is for long guns and extends 100 yards, Range B is for handguns and .22 rifles and extends 25 yards, and Range C is a steel range that is also 25 yards but requires a special class to use. They also have private ranges for various purposes. The orientation made me very comfortable with range procedures and alleviated any anxiety I had been feeling. The range shop also offers eye and ear protection that you can borrow for free, target papers for a low price (they provide the target stands for free), and a host of other guns and accessories. I had a great time and spent 3 hours shooting on Range A. Instead of having an employee moderating the ranges, they leave it up to the shooters to handle it among themselves. This may sound sketchy, but everyone on the range has taken the orientation course and is familiar with the procedures. In my experience, this worked quite well and I never had an issue. For $20 for all-day shooting, this place is unbeatable. I ended up purchasing a 1-year membership because I loved it so much. The staff are incredible and very knowledgeable. This "members only" range has everything the gun enthusiast needs. I went here as a guest just last month. Absolutely no one at this facility had an attitude or chip on their shoulder. It was as if I had been a member here for years. They take safety very seriously. No open carry on the facility except by the staff. CCW is respected. No one gets on 2 of the ranges without a safety briefing. The 3rd range, a metal target range, is restricted to those who take their formal gun safety course. This, in my opinion, makes this range a total class act. Likewise, the other members on the range encourage communication and back each other up. It's southern hospitality at it's best. My wife was shooting for the first time in her life (that's her on my the profile with an AK at this range). The range operators and other members were helpful, encouraging, and very patient with her. They were just as excited to see her learn new skills and try new things as she was doing them. It's because of this experience that she wants to continue to learn and challenge herself as a target shooter. If I lived full time in the Gainesville area, I would be hands-down a full time member of this range. Good job, GTR! read more

My son and I went there to shoot, but as soon as we walked in we were informed we had just missed the 11:00 am training class, it was 11:15, and the next one wouldn't be until 3:00 pm (about an hours prior to closing). I just wish we would've known this prior to traveling there. They said it was on their web site, and they showed us, but you had click a specific link to get to that page. Looked like a nice place, but not very user friendly, I think they are geared more towards getting you to join the club and pay annual dues than being open to the public. I don't have a problem paying for a membership, but at least they could make it easy to try the place out. Never did get to shoot. read more

I had not shot before so I took the basic handgun course at Gainesville Target Range. Honestly I am not a gun enthusiast and so I was a little nervous about what to expect. But I was pleasantly surprised by the professional attitude and safety ethic of the staff. The course covered a lot of material in one day, probably too much to absorb at once, but I felt I got a good basic introduction in the classroom followed by hands-on practice at the range. I have since been back a couple of times and I've found the staff friendly and helpful each time. This place is well run and I would recommend it to anyone who wants to learn to shoot. They offer a variety of rental packages, depending on what you want or need. You can buy a day pass or rent a gun or hearing protection if you need it. So you don't need any equipment of your own. You can just show up, rent what you need, and have fun for an hour. It's kind of like going bowling. My only complaint is they really need a proper sign out front. I drove past the place about four times looking for it on my first visit. read more

The only game in town for a 100m outdoor rifle range. They have three ranges in all, a 100m, a 75m, and a 50m with reactive targets. It is a members only facility with rates at $250 a year. The place is very clean, well built, and very private. Members can bring guests for a $10 badge. read more

GTR is a great, low-key range that also has firearms sales and can handle FFL transfers. Also, their CCW class rocks -- seriously, the instructors Mark and Steven provide a awesome FULL-DAY class for your concealed carry training requirement. Sure, you can monkey around and go take some low-rent 2-hour class and meet the FL requirement, or you can be a little more diligent and take the full day class with Mark and Steven and actually learn tangible things that can make a huge difference and save your ass...ets. Mark and Steven from GTR are also reserve police officers, and their training shows. These instructors really do a great class -- especially outstanding in terms of safety and maintaining situational awareness of everyone in the class -- I'll tell you, being on a gun range with a dozen-plus folks I don't know at all, and all of whom are armed and actively shooting...well, you want instructors with eagle eyes ( and who also conduct full safety checks of all firearms and range bags at the beginning of the class!). Even if you're not planning on a CCW, or simply want to get more familiar with shooting, I recommend this class. When I was there, a 16 year old was taking it with parental permission. I'll just say this -- regardless of ones viewpoint on firearms, it's a smart parental move to get ones child training on firearms safety -- at some point in that child's life, with the number of firearms in the US, he/she is going to come across a firearm and will need to make it safe....a friend's house, a party, somewhere...why not be pragmatic about it? Wrapping this up, I've been around firearms all my life, and I can say this with certainty -- from my full day in the class, the most important thing I learned is how much more practice and work I need. I look forward to going back to the range and am looking into their more advanced training (2 day class). read more

Never had the pleasure to visit or shoot here, but I've had a great experience with their Pro Shop/Customer Service and felt compelled to write. Most gun stores usually fall into one of two categories; good, polite service OR just plain rude (to the point where you wonder why they're even in the business). But Brian (pro shop), and the rest of the crew, displayed a level of patience and courtesy that I have never experienced before. They take pride in their customer service and seem like they genuinely enjoy their jobs. Just recently became a new member and I'd definitely recommend for shooters around the Gainesville area. Facilities are great and the staff seems very knowledgeable. They have a small store within called the "pro shop" for those who forget any equipment or are interested in buying new firearms. The membership rates are interesting in that there is almost no such thing as a guest. Being an outdoor range, $20 is the normal fee for a day of shooting while a monthly membership rate is $30 for a minimum of 2 months. The ranges are between 50-200 yards for the ones available initially and with the option of an additional $100 you have access to the steel target range which you can only fire handguns but can move around while doing so. The orientation class is mandatory for all shooters and mainly harps on the safety of the range which lasts about an hour. Otherwise the faciltiy is great and I'm excited to be apart of the new shooter community. read more

Dealt with a few of the classes offered, most of the ranges and gunsmithing/shop. All have been smooth and straightforward. Well worth the effort to secure the right to shoot there (have to first take an orientation class) and, I think, become a member. I would much rather shoot outdoors - even in Florida heat - and am happy to be able (after requisite class) to have a range to do needed drills to help responsibly carry concealed (may draw from holster, etc). Website is kept up to date and staff easy to work with. Much of the charm is fellow shooters working well with one another to have a good experience for all. Not too far out of town but a safe distance and free from any distractions. Often used for competitions for good reason. Happy to have it in the area! read more
