When we first got off the train, we didn't look at the signs and just exited to the street so we ended up walking a lot more the first day but once you realize all the demarcations, you'll be fine. We actually found an exit closer to our hotel, without having to walk up hill. SCORE!!! The station looks clean and feels pretty safe. I agree that it's a bit dark but I kind of think it adds to the charm a bit. I love the monitors that let you know when the next train is coming. The escalators are interesting to say the least. They do take forever but they are very long and better than having to walk up 4 flights of stairs, especially with baggage. And once we found the exit that didn't involve a hill, the escalator in that area was a bit shorter.

There were a lot of people wandering by the exit asking for money. There was also a wandering street lunatic who seemed potentially dangerous. Don't linger around the exit. The signage here was good for alerting you about inbound trains. I had purchased a round trip ticket earlier, so I did not have to deal with ticket vending machines here. My earlier experience was confusing, mostly due to the machine's UI.

This cuts out the $50 a day for hotel parking, the Doraville station has surface & parking deck areas, two nights was $16. Lenox station is cheaper FYI. I had only rode Marta one other time before this and it was over 10 years prior, I was mainly traveling solo on Marta this time. For the Doraville station be sure not to park in the front parking as this is NOT overnight and you will be towed. The ticketed parking is just beside with minimal security. Doraville is the gold line that goes into Lenox where the race starts; our stop was Peachtree center. The trick to going from Peachtree back to Lenox is to know that both red & gold run on same track, which I didn't. I got on the train saying North Springs and ended up at Medical Center before realized, rode back to Lindbergh then gold to Lenox. The train itself is minimally occupied unless a big event is going on. It was somewhat clean as meaning no visible trash. There are homeless persons all around the escalators underground and you may get accosted on the platform but just be smart. I put the Breeze mobile app on and bought 3 day pass for $16, my main issue was the QR code picking up on the scanner. Every time I dreaded it because would never scan on first, 2nd, maybe 3rd try if was lucky. Overall IMO, Marta is a deal at $2.50 to go all over the city pretty quickly. It can be a little sketchy at night but just be aware of surroundings.

I usually come here when I don't want my mom to come all the way to the airport to pick me up. The Doraville Station is exactly what it is -- it's one of the safer stations I would say. But it's really nothing special. MARTA itself needs a lot of work and it's really outdated. The last time I was here, the elevator was broken so I had to carry hella luggage down the stairs and that was pretty disastrous. But it is what it is. If you're looking for affordable transportation to the airport and you don't wanna ask for a ride or can't find a ride, at least find a ride here so you can go from here.

Marta just replaced eliminated bases and DID NOT THINK TO TELL PAYING CUSTOMERS. Marta said for months there would be better routes, and that routes would change. There was no communication that they were eliminating buses at the station. This effects how people get to work, it that they care. Me and another customer asked why the bus was LATE, And he said it was because the route changes (so much for more frequent rides/times). Also, the imbecile who is driving the route does not even know how his schedule has changed. And didn't care about the people who were paying to ride his bus (they make you pay via credit card now). The customer service is atrocious, as is the homeless people who ruin the experience. If you are an visitor, DO NOT TRUST MARTA to get you where you need to go (or communicate adequately to assist you).

Unfortunately, the location of a station usually determines the level of upkeep & cleanliness. For the most part, the stations from Buckhead to North Springs are in pretty good condition with ample places to sit & such. Station Highlights: *Daily & long-term parking - free for less than 24 hours *Local, regional & shuttle bus connections *Surrounded by Perimeter Mall, the central business district, numerous restaurants & multi-family residential areas. *Outdoor platform with various sheltered seating. Horrible Experience. Incompetence at its highest!…read more If you are an out-of-towner, trying to catch a train to the airport for the first time, be aware of hometown incompetence. I missed my flight because I could not get past the gate. Is it a simple task? By a ticket somewhere? That ticket allows you to pass the gate to board the train. Seems logical. However, Atlantans, I've found, get hedged in this. You have to be in the know to know what is happening. If not, you are just an outsider, and you will pay the price of inconvenience and not knowing. I get to the Dunwoody Train Station to catch a train to the airport. First problem I see is I see the gates to enter, but first question that pops up is, where do I go to purchase the ticket, pass, or whatever it is that I need? Am I to guess? I see three (3) electronic screens to the left, then to the right, some 20 ft away, I see some more - maybe four huge electronic boards. So, the first question I ask is why there isn't a huge sign that says TRAIN TICKETS to the airport purchase here. No, I went to the left, trying to figure out from those screens - wasted 15 minutes and had to press the intercom only to find out these screens are for PARKING ONLY! Why doesn't a sign say so? Go to the right only to be met with a barrage of silver buttons - 50 of them. Okay, what should I press and what should I get? A paper ticket? A pass? All I want is a train ticket. I put the credit card in to get what I thought was a train ticket to the airport, but it wouldn't take my card. I tried cash - it didn't work. This big confusing board of silver buttons. All that is needed is a simple label to the left or right of the buttons saying TRAIN TO AIRPORT. Later, I learned there are videos showing you step by step how to get Marta Passes or buy tickets. But remember, I am an out-of-towner--NO ONE TOLD me there was a video to watch prior to getting to the confusing station. It should be simple enough for anyone who gets there to follow the simple steps. And, that is the other thing - absolutely, NO HELP. Where is the person on the Intercom to help me figure it out and press the right buttons to get a ticket? This is southern Atlanta, and they don't think about how to make this process easy for out-of-towners and first-timers. They assume everybody's watched the videos!

Looking at the official train map/route, it gives you a multitude of options in terms of getting around the city of Atlanta and beyond. I arrived at the ATL airport and found it very pleasant that I could purchase a pass before exiting the airport and even board the train to my final destination. MARTA has various prices for one way, round trip, and multi day pass. I paid around 23 dollars for a unlimited seven day pass and it was totally worth it! Yes, you may hear that it is outdated and possibly dangerous, but what city does not have a cringe worthy rail system experience. From my experience, I did not run into any issues, even after 10 at night and very early in the morning. If you can figure out the routes and lines, you can pretty much get anywhere in the city in 30 minutes or less. In conclusion, I would gladly ride the MARTA the next time I am in Atlanta as it is quite simple, affordable, and much better than walking and or taking a taxi/uber.

They are chronically late, there are not enough workers to operate the busses or trains, and their customer service is atrocious. if you lose something, do not expect the marta police or Marta customer service to help you. They may acknowledge you, or they may blow off your inquiry. If you call Marta don't be surprised if they never call you back, if you send an email, do not be surprised if the email is ignored. If the system overcharges you, don't be surprised if you never get your money back. I have lived in Atlanta my entire life, and candidly, Marta's human resources just gets worse every year. They may come out with a new train, and new gates, and new systems, but don't expect it to be perfect. Also, if something goes wrong don't expect the supervisors to assist you. Atlanta also has a homeless problem. So, if you visit, don't be surprised if you see various homeless people taking up space, begging for money, and trashing the bus or trains with food or empty containers. Marta has policies against this, but no one cares to enforce it. Finally, if a route is changed due to Atlanta streets being blocked off, inclement weather (snow, hurricanes, etc), or anything else, Do NOT expect Marta to communicate that to you (the paying customer/consumers). A few years ago when it was snowing, a bus dropped people off at a random spot and made people fend for themselves after they had paid (as opposed to having clear communication with its customers hours beforehand). This is a terrible business. If you can get another way around town, do not choose to rely on Marta.
