SOMD has many wonderful, hidden gems, and PTPLAYERS is no exception. My wife and I have seen many productions at this playhouse, and left impressed time after time. They are ambitious in choosing which productions to take on. Currently, they are running RagTime, a play that I first saw many moons ago at the National Theatre in Washington DC. Let me just say this... RUN, DRIVE, JOG, UBER, LYFT, TROT if you have to, but get there. This production was excellent from the acting, to the singing, to the costumes, the staging, the sets, etc... were all fantastic!!! I grew up in the theater, and this performance was Broadway quality for sure. So, in general, PTPLAYERS is small but a good size playhouse. The staff is always kind and helpful. The building, although recently renovated, still has that Old Towne feel. Here's the best part. In lieu of the typical movie night, treat yourself to a live performance for almost the same cost of movie tickets. Also, I had the pleasure of speaking with one of the Board Members and Director of Costumes, Janice Sagers. Her passion about the arts and this theater confirms my thoughts that this playhouse is indeed a SOMD gem! One last thing. Make your evening complete by dining at the farm to table restaurant across the street, The Charles. (See my review of The Charles)

We heard of the play but never seen it so we said why not. The cast was awesome. The theater is spacious and decorated nicely. I would suggest getting there 30 minutes prior to show start time. The play runtime was from 3pm - 6pm with a intermission. Parking was a little difficult but not a real problem. Next year we will go see a raisin in the sun and the wiz. We are excited about that. Stay tune for the review of the plays in 2024.

I was running a little late, about five minutes after showtime, but somehow luck was on my side because I found street parking right on the same block, winning . I definitely would not count on that every time though; there are parking garages nearby that are probably a safer bet if you are cutting it close. Since I arrived just after the show started, I was expecting a hassle getting in, but it was actually super smooth. I did not have to deal with a long line at all, and the staff were really helpful in getting me seated quickly. I did not grab any food or drinks, so I cannot speak to pricing or options, but one thing I will say is avoid the bathroom lines during intermission if you can. They get very long. Try to go right before the show, after, or sneak away at a less obvious time if possible. As for the show itself, I loved it. I was seated in the very last row at the top and still had a clear view, which says a lot about the layout. Since there is no recording allowed, it really lets you stay present and enjoy the performance for what it is. I went solo and honestly it was the perfect solo outing. Super grateful for the experience and would definitely do it again.

Either I think it is too far for me to go or its performance dates just don't work for me or it just never made it on my radar screen. But last week, I got tickets to "Safety Not Guaranteed" and I am really glad I did. The experience at Signature Theatre was great as was the show. The facility is new and modern. The seats are comfortable. The ushers and others who worked there were knowledgeable and pleasant. The whole audience experience was a complete A+ for me! You know, so many of the other area theaters have become unpleasant in my experience. I used to be a big fan of the Studio Theatre on 14th Street in Washington DC until all of its shows simply preached at me about moral topics, political issues and how I should lead my life as a better person in their opinion. I did not like it and, as a result, they lost me as an audience member. But I am pleased to say that Signature Theatre has gained me as an audience member. I liked everything about it. When I look at the season, I see plays that I actually want to see. And, from the performance I saw of Safety Not Guaranteed, I have experienced a theater that I want to be a part of. Everyone involved with Signature Theatre should be proud of what they have built. I know that I am happy to have found this place. Thank you!
