We bought a foreclosure in Beacon Hill that was a disaster. It was totally unlivable and everyone…read morethought we were crazy for thinking we could renovate it except Matt. He was confident he could pull it off and his assurance was a relief. It seemed like every corner we turned there was a problem with asbestos, old pipes, structural floor damage or wiring in the way. Matt was extremely adaptive and creative on the fly. His communication through everything was our saving grace. From steam pipes in the way or the floors caving in, it was extremely impressive to watch the solutions come into play. He had pipes rerouted or removed altogether and completely re-framed portions of our floors. One part of the floor was a brick floor over a basement that had started to cave in. Matt knocked out all the loose brick and poured a slab that tied into the solid brick. I had no idea how a giant hole in our brick floor was going to be fixed but he adapted seemingly without a hitch in the entire project. I would highly recommend Matt and his company Exedra!

He worked closely with me in designing our space, and then handled every single aspect of our renovation - from sourcing materials, to demolition, to coordinating with the plumber and electrician, to installing our kitchen cabinets and appliances, and re-tiling and re-grouting both of our bathrooms with new fixtures and lighting. My apartment is pre-war and therefore a little tricky when it comes to making things look level and even, however, Matt figured out how to make everything look flawless and brand new. His name is a Chris…read moreMcDonagh- Not Erick While I would love to come here and rave about the fantastic work that was done by this company, unfortunately, that will not happen. There was so much that went wrong with the ENTIRE job that I ended up having to buy additional materials and pay the hired workers to finish the job for me, because the owner simply abandoned the job. He never paid his own workers for the work that they performed either. He took advantage of these guys and me as well. I want to say that the actual workers did a fantastic job, but it was no thanks to the owner. I had to negotiate a price with them to finish, what he hired them to do. From the very beginning, he came up with every excuse in the book. The start date was delayed, then he needed additional monies to continue (not finish) the job. Then if that wasn't bad enough, he then asked for yet another advance on the payments. I reminded him that he and I had a contract and that he was breaching it by not holding up his end of the deal. When we booked a consultation, his representative came out to my house and assessed the job. He then offered to do the job for 15% less than the lowest bid I had gotten. I saw this as a great deal considering that I had a few projects that I wanted to get done and was working with a limited budget. After reading his reviews and looking at his previous jobs posted here (which I am now convinced are ALL FAKE), I agreed to the terms and conditions, the contract was signed and the work began. He didn't start the job on time and by the 2nd day of work, he was telling me that he had fired his rep complaining that he had underestimated the job. I reminded him that, HE in fact sent me the contract, which I modified and sent back to him to update since the original left off a few items- which he did. There was never any talk about any under estimates at that time. On the 3rd day, the crew of skilled laborers (who are very hard working guys) came to me to ask me if he was coming to pay them and that he owed them more than $1,500 for their first couple of days of work. I told them that I had nothing to do with how he conducted his business and encouraged them to reach out to him. At that point, they pretty much told me that they were not going to finish the job until they were assured that they were going to be paid. That made all the sense in the world to me. I then reached out to the owner and asked him what was going on. He told me that he had run out of money, he would need more to finish and that he wanted me to ALSO pay HIS workers and that he would pay me back. I told him absolutely not. I had given this guy almost $10,000 and not one of the projects was complete. To put things into perspective. These were the projects: -2 walkways with pavers on both sides of the house leading to the backyard. -An L shaped paver pad for a BBQ area and Fire pit seating area. -A Fire-pit. -Downspouts to go underneath the walkways to drive water away from the house. -A cement pad under the deck area, later to be enclosed and used for outdoor storage. I got none of these even close to being completed. I ended up having to pay for additional materials myself and his workers to finish the job. After all of this, I was in contact with him and he agreed to repay me what I paid out, but now he has gone ghost. I contacted my attorney and he told me that this guy is doing some very shady business. We do have a plan to recoup my losses, which I will not discuss here. However, I would tell anyone who is even considering this company - DO NOT. This man and his company is a complete SCAM. His website doesn't work and his information is hard to find. Virtually impossible. We all work hard for the things that we want and this was a terrible experience. I am left (for now) paying back all of these erroneous expenses that I shouldn't have had to. PLEASE Don't let this happen to you! His estimate was reasonable for the amount of work to be done and very competitive with estimates I had already received from five other contractors. Andrew and his assistant Matt took about two days to transform my kitchen into something really sharp. Andrew was very thorough and even took care of some odds and ends that were left by the builder (and previous contractor who installed the counter top). Also, Andrew was very neat - he covered the counter top to avoid any damage or stains and swept the floor after both days of working. After they left, you would never know that two people were sawing tiles and working with grout and tile adhesive all day. I wouldn't hesitate to book Andrew for any other jobs I need done around the apartment. It was a five-star experience from start to finish and I'm glad I found the Handy Andy Squad.
