The food is average and somewhat greasy. The staff seems uninterested in making sure the order is correct.

Pizza was very good. Thin slice pepperoni pizza could have had more pepperoni on it but the sausage pizza was great.

Nice people but I'm sure the crust is frozen and it feels like you're on a picnic even when you eat inside...throwaway service ware

Ever on the hunt for the best bbq, we found some time to try Donnie's Friday afternoon. Open only…read moreThursday - Saturday, this little carryout spot is very much off the beaten path. In a blink and you'll miss it structure (it almost looks like one of those prebuilt sheds you could get at Lowes) in a residential part of New Hope, Donnie's offers traditional bbq meals with a wide selection of sides and desserts. My parents and I got two pulled pork meals, both with macaroni and cheese as a side. I got sweet potato casserole with mine while my parents opted for the hash brown casserole as their second side. Each plate was served with a small, soft white roll. We had banana pudding and chocolate fudge pie for dessert. Drinks include canned Pepsi products and bottled Milos tea. The young man taking orders was polite and helpful. We stood around by our car while we waited and then took our food to the nearby park to eat at a picnic table. There's nowhere to sit and eat at Donnie's, which is fine - just something to keep in mind. Just be ready to make the drive home or head to the park like we did. Overall, the food was okay. The weakest link was the sweet potato casserole, as it didn't have a ton of flavor. The bbq itself was next up -- a decent smoke flavor and texture, but unfortunately pretty dry. The sauce was slightly sweet and very tangy. Rolls were storebought but were a nice enough addition; I always like a little bread with my bbq. The macaroni and cheese also wasn't super flavorful, but was good enough -- just didn't stand out much. I'm confident the chocolate fudge pie was not homemade but it actually tasted pretty good: kind of Oreo-ish crust and a sweet, slightly-denser-than-pudding chocolate filling. The best two things were the hash brown casserole (very cheesy and creamy) and the banana pudding - made with real vanilla pudding, plentiful Nilla wafers, and nice, ripe bananas. Those two items are keepers. Overall, it's a worthwhile experience to check off if you're dedicated to trying out all the bbq the wider Huntsville area has to offer, like me. Personally, it's not a particular favorite, but I have certainly had much, much worse and would encourage you to visit and form your own opinion.

Like I said, this operation is drive-through only, so all meals are made to-go. I got mine shortly after work for a late lunch. City harbor is a short drive away, so I toodled over there for a view of the water while I ate. The drive through line moved quickly enough. The menu has bbq, the less fancy bbq sides (beans, slaw, chips), family pack meals for a variety of crowd sizes, as well as loaded potatoes and nachos. I selected a pork loaded baked potato with a Diet Pepsi (iirc - don't think it was Coke). I think my lunch ~$12, which isn't too bad for the serving sizes. The lady at the drive through was polite and welcoming. My pork tater was quite large and came with liquidy butter, cheese, and dollops of sour cream and bacon bits on top. The bacon bits, while the pre-packaged salad garnish kind, are a pleasant surprise - you don't often get those on bbq taters without asking. The potato was cooked nicely, still warm and soft. I genuinely enjoyed the Que, enough so that I'd get it on a sandwich or on a plate without the goodness of a potato there as backup, lol. I don't like bbq sauce on my taters but I did dip a small piece of pork in the cup they gave me. It's a more vinegar based sauce, but it had enough sweetness to it that I still enjoyed it. Thanks for a quick, easy, and tasty lunch!

We had the pulled chicken sandwich, noting the portion options (5 oz small and 8 oz large). The small was very generous and more than satisfying. We paired it with a side of onion rings, which were cooked perfectly. The white sauce was excellent, and the vinegar-based BBQ sauces were thin and authentic classic Alabama-style BBQ. I ordered the pulled pork sandwich basket with a side salad, and it was excellent. The pork was served hot (not just warm), clean, not fatty, and very moist. The lightly toasted bun added great texture and pulled everything together. The kids had chicken tenders and fries, and everything came out fresh, hot, and delicious. The staff really stood out, friendly, welcoming, and happy to explain the food and sauces. You can tell they care about both their food and their customers. Overall, Boarhog's BBQ offers generous portions, authentic flavors, and great service. Highly recommended, and we'll definitely be back.

It's a humble restaurant, the inside isn't going to wow you - cabin like appearance and very simple seating. And you can smell the smoke as you pull up. I've been to a couple barbeque places in Scottsboro, and this is my favorite so far. The parking lot is a little bumpy / pot-holey so be careful pulling in. I rolled into the restaurant and immediately felt that this was a local-type spot. The man operating the cash register was engaged in a very friendly, familiar conversations with someone eating there. However, he paused his conversation immediately when I walked up to him and taught me about the different sauces they offered. I'm glad he did, because I definitely have bbq sauce preferences, and he steered me in the right direction! Their fairly large menu is handwritten on the board behind the register, but I opted for a lunch deal they had running - a small pulled pork sandwich with chips and a drink for only $5!! Now granted, it was a small sandwich -- if you were starving you'd likely need a little something extra -- but for how delicious the sandwich was and for that cheap, you really can't do much better than that! The pulled pork itself was really, really good - honestly some of the best bbq I've had in north Alabama. Tender, moist, moderately smoky, not too fatty. Really, really good stuff. The sweet sauce the man at the register set me up with was good too, also faintly smoky and tangy on top of the usual sweet tomato flavor. It was a delicious sandwich, and the sweet tea I got was good too, though maybe not quite sweet enough for me. I plan on coming back with family so we can try some of their other bbq. If the pork stays consistent and the other stuff is even 75% as good, this could definitely be a 5 star spot. Check it out if you're in the area!

Kars Char

This! Place! Needs! More! Hype!…read more Okay, back to typing normally. Kar's Char is a relatively new Texas-style bbq place inside of Lowe Mill. It occupies the full restaurant space that used to belong to The Veggie and belonged to Happy Tummy before that. It's to the left of Piper and Leaf as you face P&L from the parking lot. I only belabor this point because some folks do have a hard time navigating Lowe Mill and no one should miss out on giving this place a try because they can't find it. I saw a few posts about Kar's Char when they first opened and have had them bookmarked since then. Recently, I was in the area after work around 2 PM and looking to kill some time before a doctor's appointment. I was feeling hungry and figured why not give them a go and enjoy a little time at the Mill while I waited. I arrived and took a few minutes to look at the menu. I am, admittedly, freakishly obnoxious and snobby about barbeque and was determined to have a positive experience, so I decided not to play with fire that day and instead decided to order one of their burgers, which I'd seen a few people rave about online. I selected their hatch green chili cheeseburger and placed an order for that. It comes with one side and I decided on macaroni and cheese. They have bottled drinks available next to the register and so I grabbed a water out of the cooler to round things out. My burger was cooked fresh just for me so I had a few minutes to hang around and take in the fun, nerdy, classic Lowe Mill ambiance. This is a truly local business and they seem very dedicated to supporting and uplifting their fellow businesses in and around the Mill. The service I received was incredibly kind and welcoming -- they really do seem like lovely folks here. My burger came out piping hot and cooked perfectly, with slightly crispy, charred edges and a juicy center. It was a delicious burger, slightly spicy but nothing scary, and I especially loved the chili lime aioli -- added a nice creaminess and moisture. To my pleasant surprise, the soft, lightly toasted bun held up to all the goodness pretty well! Next time I will probably ask for no pickles -- I found their flavor a little overwhelming -- but I am also hot and cold on my feelings about pickles so your mileage may vary! I say keep them on if you're a big fan, and take them off if not. :) The macaroni and cheese was enjoyable but not as good as the burger. Next time I come I will probably try out a different side. Overall, 4.5/5, with extra high marks for the hatch green chili burger and the charming, welcoming staff/owners. I'll be back to try the actual barbeque, and certainly to have another burger!
