I had heard plenty of great things about Boarhog's and finally got the chance to give it a try. I got the combo plate with brisket and smoked wings and for my sides I got the mac & cheese and the potato salad along with a piece of texas toast. The brisket was phenomenal. It was extremely tender and melts in your mouth! You don't need a knife because it falls apart on its own and it was seasoned to perfection. The smoked wings were delicious as well and paired perfectly with the white sauce. The mac wasn't the greatest but I enjoyed the potato salad. The Texas toast was a great addition and was perfect for creating a little bbq sandwich. My total came out to around $32 which I felt was a bit pricey when I had paid but after getting my plate I realized how large the portions were which totally justified the cost. At most BBQ restaurants I usually finish all my food but here I had left overs so I basically got 2 meals out of the one plate. Another thing I liked is that they have a variety of sauces and they aren't stingy with them. Overall this is a great spot with friendly staff that provides wonderful service. I've been on Boarhog's kick lately. Decided to try their catfish during my most recent visit for lunch. I had the vinegar slaw and baked beans as my side. The fish was fresh, seasoned well and cooked crispy like I requested it. I love their vinegar slaw and the baked beans were good. Not going to lie, I was a bit shocked how small the pieces of fish were considering generous portions of other foods I've tried here. We had a great experience at Boarhog's BBQ. Everything we ordered was outstanding, hot, and clearly made with care. We had the pulled chicken sandwich, noting the portion options (5 oz small and 8 oz large). The small was very generous and more than satisfying. We paired it with a side of onion rings, which were cooked perfectly. The white sauce was excellent, and the vinegar-based BBQ sauces were thin and authentic classic Alabama-style BBQ. I ordered the pulled pork sandwich basket with a side salad, and it was excellent. The pork was served hot (not just warm), clean, not fatty, and very moist. The lightly toasted bun added great texture and pulled everything together. The kids had chicken tenders and fries, and everything came out fresh, hot, and delicious. The staff really stood out, friendly, welcoming, and happy to explain the food and sauces. You can tell they care about both their food and their customers. They call your name over intercom to walk up to get your food. Comes out on baskets/trays that you take to dispose as you walk out. They have brews and normal soda/tea options. Boarhog's BBQ is an absolute gem! From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with warm smiles and top-notch customer service that made us feel right at home. The staff went above and beyond to ensure our dining experience was perfect. And the food--wow! Every bite was a flavor explosion. The BBQ was cooked to perfection, with tender, juicy meats that were packed with smoky goodness. The brisket sandwich was delicious and not Smokey in flavor at all. The loaded baked potato was amazing then topped easily with a pound of pulled pork. The meats were so tender and flavorful. The bbq sauce was nice and vinegary and added the right amount of flavor on top. The sides were equally delicious, complementing the main dishes perfectly. The baked beans were sweet and tangy. The Mac and cheese definitely needed more cheese or perhaps we got some from the end of the tray. Their sweet tea was easily some of the best in the area. You can tell they take great pride in what they serve. I loved all of their wall decor with named hogs and quirky signs. We were excited to try this place, as I was told it was the best BBQ in the Huntsville area. Y'all. No. Now, I will give them this: service is on point, the place is clean, and there are ample tables and parking. For the food, here's what I/we tried: Pulled chicken: just no. It was just overwhelmingly sweet and dry. Brisket: overly fatty, but not awful. Pulled pork: serviceable. Fried okra: good! Too small of a size for an upcharge, but woot? Onion rings: decent! Again, how dare you charge us this much for like 5 onion rings but okay! Potato salad: good lord, how do you mess up potato salad like this? It tasted like baked potatoes mixed with sugar and mayo. Baked beans: the sweetest, most toothachingly awful things I've ever tried. I didn't get past one bite. Hashbrown casserole: came to us cold (seriously?) but is your usual you can google recipe. White sauce: might as well have been mayo and sugar mixed together--c'mon guys, put some vinegar in there. Texas toast: also cold. Overall, this was not a great experience. I get that it's a small joint, but they really need to fix the whole "get sauces in small cups, put trays here, put trash there," etc. as it's confusing and no one who hasn't been there knows where to go. Also, the food just wasn't great. I like that the staff is lovely and I'm sure that they may have food that is appealing to some but, as someone who does not want diabetes, this didn't do it for me. I was actually embarassed that we brought my mother here telling her it was great and even more embarassed that we served my father this food at his rehab facility. I'm sorry; this is a long review.  Bottom line: food is OK, price is kinda steep for portion size on some dishes, restaurant is awkward. Detailed review:  Tried this place after church on Sunday afternoon.  Almost no wait when we got there around 1145 but it got super busy round noon after we got our food. There are a lot of logistical issues at this place - stuff that usually goes smoothly at other places that doesn't seem to work right here. They have a giant TV with the menu but it was difficult to read for both my wife and kid (it was a little blurry for me but I could make it out OK).  Not sure if it's the resolution of the image or the Vizio TV).  If you have trouble seeing it they've got paper menus at the front.  The ordering area/front counter can get kind of congested - the drink machine and the BBQ sauce (one bottle for the entire restaurant to share, don't take it to your table) is located - there is usually a knot of people as people stand in line to place their order, people come from across the room to pick up food when it's called and people standing in line to get a refill or sauce. They serve all the food on metal plates and put them on big black trays.   Going off the half printed, half hand written signs on the wall, they would like you to return the trays and plates to a cart... which is right by the front door.  This requires you to lug your dirty dishes down the same hallway where everyone is standing in line to order and jump in front of people who are just entering the store.  Normally, when restaurants want you stack plates and trays, they use a wax paper liner on the plate so it is easy to slide your food trash into the garbage.  This place doesn't do that so you're trying to push a bunch of ketchup, baked beans and BBQ into the trash and not make a mess.  It is not optimal.  I don't mind bussing tables but this was not a well conceived operation.  There are three exits - one is the front door by the trash, one is in the main dining room but is partially obstructed by a table and chairs and doesn't get used and the other is  through the line of people waiting to order and looks more like an employee/delivery driver entrance.  This place could really use a Lean Six Sigma consultation or some fung shui tuneup. Food was OK.  I ordered a $17 brisket plate and received the most fat I've ever gotten in a brisket order.  I think about 40% of the plate was fat.  The sides were very small - I got potato salad and baked beans.  The beans were good, potatoes salad was very dry and seemed like too much mayo (which sounds contradictory but welp that's the way it was).  French fries were considered a premium side (which is weird, because they're usually cheap and the default) with a $1 upcharge if you are so inclined.  The Texas toast was delicious and one of the better I've had. BBQ sauce was vinegar based - I lived in NC for quite a while so I'm used to vinegar based BBQ sauce.  This one had quite a tang but was good.  They also had a spicy Buffalo sauce that was OK. Kids meals seemed decent.  Oldest kid liked her pulled pork sandwich with chips (a large bag of chips was a plus) and the younger one liked her chicken tenders and fries.  I thought the chicken tenders weren't overcooked, but not a lot of seasoning there. Wife got a pulled pork sandwich combo and though the sandwich was huge even though she got the small version.  She didn't like her squash but that's why you should never order fried squash :D. They have a Pepsi fountain and beer is also available. Ambiance is OK and plenty of seating to handle the crowds. No risk of this place going under -- very popular with the locals. Employees were nice enough from my interactions with them. $48 for a family of four with two drinks and two waters.  Not bad for BBQ but not the best I've had.  I feel like this place is definitely a resto with a learning curve- could be a lot better if you know what to order and management fixes some things. So delicious!! We got a combo plate to share between two people and it was more than enough food. Brisket, ribs, coleslaw (mayo!!) and hash brown casserole (I thought this was alright - really soft and I wish it had more texture). The meat is DELICIOUS and juicy; highly recommend. Get the Alabama white sauce - tart and creamy. Texas toast is nice and thicccc and buttered. We got here 5 minutes before opening and it was a short wait, but when we left 30 minutes later, there was a huge line of 10-15 people! Plan accordingly. read more

My parents live nearby, so I've passed this restaurant countless times and hadn't tried it. That recently changed when I finally ordered a to-go meal for me and my parents one Saturday. I went inside to place my 3 orders, and it probably took no more than 15 minutes for all of the food to be prepared. There are plenty of space on the benches to wait for the food and there plenty of tables available for small and large parties. I ordered the brisket stuffed potato. It was stacked full of meat and no piece was wasted! It was delicious, and definitely high on my list of stuffed potatoes. Definitely would recommend this great, local business. read more

I was in the Huntsville, AL area and wanted some Southern barbecue! I consulted Yelp as I usually do and found Boarhog's Barbecue not only close but highly recommended. It is sort of a dive, you order from a window, get your own drinks and find a spot to land in either a booth or one of the long "community" tables. After a little wait, your food is freshly made and ready for pickup. I say all of this not as a criticism but just to warn unsuspecting customers that this is not a white tablecloth type of restaurant. But the staff is very friendly and helpful and makes you feel like you belong there. As to the food, I just tried the large pork sandwich and fries. The sandwich comes with vinegar based coleslaw to use as a topping. Their signature sauce is also thin and vinegar based. The meat itself was tender and moist but not overpowering with smoke. All of those elements make the perfect barbecue in my book but may not be everyone's cup of tea. The fries were very good but not the best I ever had. Never disappoints! When vivisting hsv I always make a point to head out 72E towards Gurley, JUST for the potato Technically it's NOT "just a potato". It's a $12 too big to eat make it a 3-meal extravaganza! I keep wanting to try somethin else, but that durn potato just calls my name every time! Chicken or brisket: you can't go wrong. Moist and seasoned. Heaps upon heaps of meat, it can't be good to put all that in your belly in one sittin! (I try. But never can!) You won't be disappointed. First of all, the service is great and the girls are helpful and chatty! Great atmosphere for a BBQ restaurant and the locals definitely support it. The food was unbelievable...the bbq sauce should definitely be bottled and sold!! I came late in the day and they were out of chicken and ribs.....I don't have a problem with that! It means you aren't getting microwaved food. The brisket and pulled pork were fantastic!!! The Mac-n-cheese....I could eat a plate full of it.... We stopped over in Huntsville and decided to try a local joint! Glad we did, too. This is the place to be, the line was non-stop out the door. The line moved but seating seemed sparse or a lot of people took their food to go. We came in at the right time and got seating for 6. I had the pulled chicken baked potato loaded, while husband had the brisket baked potato loaded. Definitely good brisket for being outside of Texas. It was a little fatty but the flavor was solid. Chicken was flavorful and not salty, would definitely get it again. Both potatoes were swimming in butter - so that could have been adjusted but didn't take away from the meal. Did I say the potatoes were stuffed with meat?!! So much meat!! Kids both had chicken tenders and fries - a little spice and could be a little juicier but the flavor was good. We were a little disappointed in the fries but we are foodies apparently!! We all had a side salad and wanted more, it was a small cup. (No green beans, no collards, or mustards). Located outside of Northern Huntsville off of Hwy 72 in seemingly nowhere, Boarhog's serves great BBQ at affordable prices, humongous servings, and they honor Veterans' service with a discount! I was visiting an old Army buddy and he drove - if he did not drive, there is no way I would be able to find the place. Do not judge Boarhog by the simply decorated décor (with boar hogs mounted) with the ambiance of a diner because the BBQ (and food) and friendly service more than makes up for it. I ordered the pulled pork sandwich with cole slaw, my buddy ordered a sliced, fried, pulled chicken plate with cheese - sort of like a nachos with a potato instead of chips; and we ordered for take-out the catfish plate and pulled chicken plate (with Alabama white sauce) and fried okra. All were awesome, tasty, juicy, and portions humongous. If dining in, beer is available - draft (Bud, Bud Lite, Shock Top, and Ultra), cans (similar selection + one or two additional options). Wanted to have real southern BBQ and Boarhogs appeared to be the best choice available. Glad I went. BBQ pork was tender, juicy, smoky and flavorful. French fries that accompanied the basket were crisp, hot and delicious. Bottomless sweet tea. What could be better. I tried all the vinegar based BBQ sauces; none were not to my taste. I am not from here, so not trying to be judgmental - just not for me. Service was fast, friendly and welcoming. The place is comfortable, lots of tables, TVs and wild boar head mounts on the wall.
