If you can imagine walking into a friend's house and there in the corner is the bar just knocked together with a few bits of wood and a couple of tables and stools to sit at, well this is what's here. What you see is what you get not a great selection of beers but the Theakstons went down a treat (well actually several did). We sat in the garden overlooking the countryside unspoiled by any sounds other than that of the birds and sheep in the fields opposite. If you are after Juke Boxes, slot machines and the other trappings of modern pubs give this a miss, if you are after visiting the Scarborough area try and find this one you shouldn't be disappointed after all they way the pub trade is going at the moment it may not be here for many more years. I will probably get bought and turned into someone's home, shame if it ever does. The pub doesn't do food (only a few sandwiches) just a traditional pub.

Walking into the mill inn is like walking back in time to the 1970's! When you order a drink the bar man Disappears down stairs to his underground cellar to fetch it. The bar is about 3 foot long and if 5 people stood in there you would feel like a sardine. Fortunately there is another room at other side of the shop if the weather is unpleasant where your beer is served through the hatch in the wall. There is a beer garden which has ample seating, they offer their own brew as well as Black Sheep Bitter. This is a lovely spot to stop off if you are thinking of wandering from Grosmont to Goathland about a 4 mile walk the North Yorkshire Moors Railway stops and picks up at both stations. They offer sandwiches and pies so if you're hungry a snack is also an option.

It offers a bar, restaurant, function room and accomodation. The Sunday Carvery, like many othes in the area, is very popular and reasonably priced. Away from typical Sundat roast fare, the bar meals are very good and come recommended, and theres a wide choice of drinks - both traditional and a little more special - to compliment and accompany your food. Service at the car and at your table is always friendly and quick, and theres a real family feel to the pub. Its certainly family friendly and children are welcome. Its a few years since we stayed there, however at the time the rooms were very well maintained and comfortable. Having taken a look at their website this still looks to be the case and the prices charged are among the more reasonable in the area. It'd be an ideal place to stay and use as a base for exploring the area as its not central to anywhere and is quiet. Recommended.

It had but a little to the better in that the room we occupied had been 'upgraded' with a jacuzzi bath. As was usual in this great inn were the toiletries, bathrobes, tea/coffee making facilities.....I could go on for ever as there is so much in the rooms. Alistair and Karen are perfect hosts and will do anything to make your stay perfect. I have carried on, somewhat, about the room but one thing that mustn't be missed is the food. Alistair is rarely away from the kitchen. The food that comes out is beyond description. All locally sourced. In the evening we started with a seafood platter for my partner and an awe inspiring lobster bisque for myself. My mouth still waters thinking about it. Main course, for both of us, was a dressed crab. A perfect meal. Breakfast in the morning was a full English for myself. The black pudding has to be tried. My partner had scrambled eggs with smoked salmon. Those plates filled us up for the day and the drive to Edinburgh. If you are in the area, this is the best place to stay but book early because it gets filled quickly. Thanks K & A, and your wonderful staff, for another great nights stay.
