I hadn't been to The Sound Garden yet, but since we were at the MOST in downtown Syracuse anyway,…read morewe decided to stroll over. Everyone had told me it was the best record store around. I can definitely agree, there are records from all kinds genres, even a Creepshow Soundtrack one that just came out! I had already pre-ordered it for my partner, though... What surprised me was that they also have CDs, and stickers and pins and patches and even board games! There was a large selection of vinyls that were on sale that day, which made it seem like a great deal could be had here. I'll have to check it out on Record Sale Day I think they call it.

It's very rare to be able to shop in person for boutique labels such as vinegar syndrome, arrow, criterion, cinematographe, and A24. The selection is unmatched and I end up spending a good amount of time and money on every visit because you can't get this experience anywhere else. While I love the movie selection in particular they also offer vinyl, books, games, apparel, and more! The staff is always kind and helpful. Love coming here and am happy to support a store that keeps physical media alive. Small parking lot out front and street parking available. I've never had any issues getting a spot

I have been looking for a good record shop in my area since I moved to Oneida in October. I went…read morehere for the first time today and I've got to say that I am impressed. I have been keeping up with their Facebook page, where they post new items regularly. Yesterday I saw a Brian Eno LP I have had my eye on and I knew that I was finally gunna stop in. I asked if they could hold it for me until the next day and they said yes, no problem--very accommodating! I stopped in and they had my record for me. I talked with Michelle and she is very friendly and welcoming! Scott was kind as well. I looked around and found some awesome stuff--Boards Of Canada's "Geogaddi" 3LP and a cassette tape of Melissa Etheridge's "Yes I Am" as well. The prices were awesome, and she gave me a discount too which was so kind. I will definitely be coming back!

I'm one of those folks who could tell you that Todd Rundgren was all over Grand Funk's "Loco…read moreMotion" (...well he produced it), but can't remember what I had for dinner three days ago. The owner of Reimagine Records is one of those who understands your musichead quirks and has equally obscure music facts in his head...along with a very good array of music in his shoppe. If you like bands like Marillion or Gentle Giant or even the Shins, he knows about them and can speak intelligently about them. Places like Utica and area can support these businesses because the rent is much more reasonable, and gives these indy shoppes a chance. Fairly priced and a good vibe here...support these folks. One of the ultimate used record Shoppes in the Northeast that I have been to.

Whenever I'm in Rochester, I make sure to stop here to get my fix. It is HUGE. You could easily spend a long chunk of time here perusing through their collection of records. But that's not all they have. They've got CDs, movies, books, vintage clothing, posters, and lots of great "gift" type items. They even have a little bar area that serves as a venue for musicians to play. The inside is quirky and everything I love to see in a record store. I really resonate with the posters they have hanging and all the random decor they have throughout the shop. The staff is super friendly and eager to help if you're looking for something specific, which is a plus since there's so much terrain to cover. Record Archive is definitely what I'd consider a top tier record shop.

In the back, there's a cool space where they host live concerts and yes, you can grab a libation while you enjoy the music. Cheers to that. The selection? Ridiculous (in the best way). Vinyl and CDs from just about every artist on the planet. They'll even buy your old music. You'll also find some local goods, and the moment you walk in, you're hit with the comforting smell of incense. It's a vibe! The staff? Helpful, friendly, and chill and zero snobbery. It honestly reminds me of Wax Trax and Vintage Vinyl in Chicago... but way bigger. I'll be back.

I fell in love today…read more With a bookstore, that is. We're vacationing in Prince Edward County (in Ontario, Canada) for a few weeks and the nearest town to where we are staying is the quaint, marina town of Picton. In order to do our grocery shopping, we take the 10 minute drive into this charming town and I've been exploring Main Street's numerous shops. I happened to be running an errand at the other end of Main Street and of course, a store called "Books & Company" caught my eye. (I love bookstores!) I walked into a very welcoming and very large space that appeared to house a few different groups. It seemed like it was part 'big bookstore' (reminded me of Indigo and Chapters), part independent bookstore (think 'Book City'), part used bookstore (my favourite), then, off to the side....wait, was that a hallway to the next door coffee shop? Yes , this establishment was a blend of my two favourite types of stores. A coffee shop attached to a bookstore! And this isn't one of the big, commercial coffee shops that are partnered with a just-as-big- bookstore, it was a small town, family run coffee joint, which in my opinion, are the best kind! (['ve reviewed Miss Lily's separately) While I waited for my coffee to be made, I meandered across the small hallway that joins Miss Lily's to Books & Company. The small ramp also serves as a community pin-board for the area. I actually found out via the board that there is a Harry Potter camp in the area. (My elder boy may go!) After picking up my coffee I wandered around the book store, which was exactly what I thought it was: part new books like Indigo (with a great children's section in the back) and part old and used books (I was in that section for a while). There's even a great stationary area and community space upstairs, which happened to be hosting a local art collection that can be browsed for $3.00. I bought an old book for my measly old-book collection that I'm thinking of starting. ("Over the Ocean to Paris" by Franklin W. Dixon...I'm a bit of a Francophile) And I also picked up a blank greeting card with a photo by a local photographer of a scene from Prince Edward County, for my penpal. (You read right, I do have a penpal!) The lovely lady behind the desk was great to chat with and after I told her that it's a lovely place, she said that it was an even lovelier place to work. I made my purchase for $4.95 and walked out into the sunshine. What an amazing start to the day. If you're in Picton, ask a local where "The Bookstore" is. They'll know exactly what you're talking about.
