    House beer

if you're staying on this side of town this is a fantastic place to check out the English-speaking menus and the wait staff spoke very good English and was very nice. The house beer is a pale style which I thought was great. We had a antipasto salad which was some grilled vegetables of a lovely bit of greens with mushrooms etc. And the pork knuckle. The pork knuckle wasn't cooked long enough so it wasn't that tender. But they must finish it with a blowtorch to make the skin crackly and crunchy. Which is super fun! They serve with a lovely side of pickles and pickled peppers and pickled onions and shredded horseradish and mustard. it is a giant dish that even split by 2 with a side of sauerkraut in the salad we didn't finish.

We had the pork knuckle to share between 2 and we got a ton leftover. It's very tasty and rich, we suggest getting the side of sauerkraut.

We really liked it, food was good, staff helpful, they have an "international" menu (translated into english & french). One of the few traditional places that serves late dinner. We (a couple) shared the beef tartare as starter and then shared the pork knuckle (pictured, giant portions, beware!).

This was the best food that I have had in Salzburg. I ordered the pork cheeks and was amazed with how tender and flavorful the meat was. Also the potato noodles were incredible. The beer was good as well. I just can't get over how good the food was. Also great service as well!

This was the outdoor patio area, they had a little fire going when I came in.

If you like local beer and wine and restaurants that feature them, this is the place for you. I came in winter so the outdoor area wasn't an option, but if I come back in summer I will definitely visit Fuxn again. I would call ahead to make a reservation, especially on a Friday/Saturday night. You won't regret eating here!

Stopped in at 10:15 based on their opening time of 10:00, but the kitchen isn't ready until 11:30. We couldn't hang around because we had to catch a bus out of town. This caused us to miss breakfast. English was no problem, and we had some nice coffee drinks, but if you're planning on eating early, you should call ahead. The atmosphere is trendy and blends classic wood with a new, stainless look.

Super friendly extremely fast service. Ordered Gnocchi and friend has Pastrami sandwich. Yum!

We pretty much tried all of the beers and they all were great.

The schnitzel, innviertler dumplings and the desserts, (panna cotta and a chocolate cake) were all outstanding.

Dinner here was fine, but not the 4.5 star experience Yelp led us to believe. Yelpers so…read morerecommended this place that we tried to go our first night in town, and were advised that it might be a 30 minute wait -- but the staff *also* told the 7 parties ahead of us that it might be a 30 minute wait for them, too. So we went elsewhere. We went back the next night at an off-hour and while the food was fine, I would have been highly disappointed had we waited in line for 30 minutes, let alone 2 or more hours. This restaurant has a prime location and a strong online reputation. And perhaps our experience was impacted by the fact that we went at an off-hour. Still, there are much better options, with equal character, available across the city. Consider branching out -- and check my other Salzburg reviews for other alternatives.

We came in around 5pm for an early dinner before our train back to Munich and was able to grab a table for 4. We got incredibly lucky because the restaurant really filled up and by the time we left, there was a long line down the block. Of course we had to have their Original Wiener Schnitzel, which was so crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. We also had a Salzburger Nockerl, which is a classic Austrian soufflé dessert that is considered a culinary symbol of Salzburg. You do have to order this about 20 minutes in advance, so we ordered it when we made our entree orders. This was really good and honestly, more than enough for our group of 4. I also highly recommend their house beer, which was one of the best beers I had during our 10 day trip.

During our first visit to Salzburg in 2009, we asked our hotelier to recommend a genuine Austrian…read morerestaurant - one that did not offer "Menus for tourists" and that prepared authentic dishes. He recommended the Bärenwirt. Returning to Salzburg with our 11 adult children and grandchildren, we wanted them to have a similar authentic experience so we made a reservation at our old haunt, which has been in operations since 1663. Things have changed over the last 16 years. On our first visit, the menu was only in German and our server spoke to us in German until we threw in the towel and admitted, "Ich spreche nicht sehr gut Deutsch. Englisch, bitte?" (I don't speak German well. English, please?) Now, 16 years later, English has become the default and today, the menu is presented in four languages. But the food is still just as authentic and delicious. Taking grandkids who range from 10 to 15 years of age, we were bracing for a few refrains of, "I don't LIKE that! It's weird!" or similar rants, but we heard none of it. All the kids (and parents, too, for that matter) dove gamely into the menu and found things that were to their liking. The menu is large and varied. Main dishes include roast pork, pasta, sausage with roasted potatoes, dumplings, goulash, schnitzel, fried chicken, boiled beef and (of course) bratwurst. The food was good, there was an excellent variety, and it was brought out quickly. Prices for main dishes were quite reasonable, with most under €20. Wiener Schnitzel was the most expensive, at €28,90 but it was an outlier. The only issue I had was the price of the soft drinks. Between our grandkids, they had 10 Cokes - at €5.90 EACH. That was €59 for sodas; more than we paid for all of our beers. My wife was determined that, for dessert, the kids and grands would all taste Kaiserschmarren mit Zwetschkenröster - cut-up pancake with raisins topped with powdered sugar and served with a jam for dipping. A truly Austrian experience that everyone enjoyed, though some more than others. On the night we visited, we encountered several other parties of Americans. I have no way of knowing whether the place has become that popular with visitors or management simply corralled us into the same room. Regardless, it was a very pleasant evening and one I'm sure we will repeat the next time we're in Salzburg.
