I worked out, explored, shopped at The Shop, drank a lot of sparkling flavored electrolyte and vitamin-infused water, etc. Danielle helped me as I shopped for merch and I don't recall the names of the other 5 or 6 other Equinox team members onsite on Friday, July 5th but they were all so nice and helpful. I even asked for advice on which beach I should hit up. Every single member of the team Equinox x Hamptons is so friendly and helpful! :D I was genuinely ecstatic to be a visitor. I had read alot of complaints online so I didn't know what to expect but it exceeded my expectations and I can't wait 'til next summer for this pop-up when I return to the Hamptons. I loved the new machines and weights and the dry sauna. The cold plunge was the only lackluster thing there, otherwise everything and everyone was wonderful and it's a beautiful location in lovely Bridgehampton. While nowadays almost any mid-level trader or PR twentysomething has a share house in the Hamptons during the summer months, it's only a certain kind of family that owns out east. And within that already ultra exclusive club, there are only a certain echelon that belong to the private beach clubs stretching along the white sand beaches on the Eastern edges of this long island. Fortunately for me, I managed to meet a few of these fancy folks and through their generosity I gained access to the notoriously snooty and closed access golf compound and private family club in East Hampton. The Maidstone is one of the oldest golf clubs in the east and boasts an 18-hole course. Since I'm more beach bum than caddy shacker, I indulged in the water sports and beach cafe on my visit. The cold bar offers made-to-order salads freshly chopped before your eyes. The grill had some tantalizing sandwiches and burgers, but again being a private club you can only dine here with a member so leave the cash at home. The private beach is perfectly serene, complete with chairs and umbrellas ready for a day of lounging while the massive pool seemed more family friendly with children splashing away. Be sure to order up a signature Maidstone cocktail (basically a rich man's Long Island Iced Tea) and check out the upper deck views of the Atlantic and surrounding beach. The clubhouse itself is nice, classy and pure Hamptons style. We didn't really meet anyone new, and the only diversity you'll find is in the kitchen. It's clear that families have been coming out here for generations and they are wary of strange faces. It was fun to live like the 1% for a day, but in the end I think I prefer a sandy day brown-bagging it in the Rockaways. For those looking for a more exclusive experience, and some of the world best golf spots, then perhaps you can wiggle your way in here.

I attended the mens' final around 1967 when Gene Scott beat Chuck McKinley. This was still the era of Amateur Tennis a couple of years before the sport went from sham amateur to pro in the summer of 1969. The transition from amateur to pro was sudden and universal. The Meadow Club was a spectacular retreat for the WASP rich. It offered grass courts exclusively. There were more grass courts in America then than there are today, but they were still a rarity. This club, as I recall, rotated42 courts for play once a week. So, in total there were only 6 courts available for play one day a week. Picture them at their manicured best with many fronting the Atlantic Ocean. This was grass court heaven. Each one was manicured perfection rivaling an excellent putting green. In order to keep them in top shape play had to be limited to just a few hours a week. So 4-5 hours play in a single day was followed by 6 days of attentive recovery for each one. Even back in the '60s this club was extremely exclusive and cost a fortune to become a member. Not sure if they still have all those courts, but I'm sure the club is still private as private can be for a country club. No golf, if I recall correctly. Racist and anti-Semitic from the start, I'd be very surprised if it still hasn't remained "restrictive", as golf and tennis clubs were once referred to politely.
