As someone who asked for leniency in a time of struggle, I'd like share my upsetting experience. While attending this gym, I was struggling through abuse from men. I was also struggling to make ends meet, and I just wanted a place to put my head down and work. I was not left alone. Multiple fighters at this gym mocked and made fun of me in front of other members at this gym. I heavily avoided interaction. While sitting in my car on the side of the freeway, I texted and asked; "Could I possibly pause billing and attending for a two week period and then resume?" The response from the gym owner was; "Our system doesn't hold for less than a month." Luckily, God provided and my ex boyfriend offered to pay $200 for me to keep training. (That's the monthly rate.) I will provide a screenshot of this conversation. I asked in person to a kind instructor, and he told me that sounded very reasonable. There are a couple people at this gym that are genuine. After leaving a comment on a recent instagram post relating to this GuardianGym, I was contacted by the owner. (This post was requesting donations for those struggling financially.) She attempted to apologize, and in the same breath she asked for the deletion of my comment. Also while apologizing, she was attempting to blame and deflect the responsibility that she denied my request for a freeze. She then deleted my comment herself. This inspired me to share my experience. I want to add that in the screenshot she asked for me to add my card on file. I added my card. As seen, she later reached out to me to say "my card" was declining. She was instead attempting to charge my ex boyfriend's card, as mine ended in 3899. When opportunity to be rude presented itself, it was taken. I also experienced rude interactions with her daughter who is the 'pretty blonde girl' who works the front desk referenced in an honest review below.

I've been coming for a year and the gym is always clean with positive energy from competitors, children and casual participants alike. I have trained at numerous academies in my life and I can say confidently that Kru Rad and the growing coaching staff are focused on skill development as well as that community vibe that keeps me coming back. For all of my advancement tests, I have fallen outside the scheduled testing period. There has never been an issue with scheduling a private test. It has allowed me to relax about preparation, going at my pace to ensure I am developing my skills. This community extends beyond the four walls of the gym. I'm also on…read morethe fence on writing this review because I actually enjoy the smallish class sizes, but I also want this place to succeed. This place checkmarks all the boxes that I'm looking for when joining a striking gym: 1. Experienced coach(es) that are current or former amateur/professional fighters. 2. A good mix of different skill levels from students. 3. Facilities are that well-kept. 4. Encouraged sparring. Everyone gets a killer cardio workout and learns techniques that are tailored for Muay Thai or real-life self-defense (there's a reason why Muay Thai is considered one of the best bases for MMA striking). The best part of this gym is truly in the diverse experience level of students. I've trained for a while, but my cardio and clinch work are abysmal, and I've never seen anything but smiles and encouragement from everyone. There is no "UFC Bro" culture here -- everyone is disarmingly welcome and supportive. There's no ego either. People show up and work hard with their fellow teammates and there's a real sense of community here. I'd strongly recommend giving it a shot if you're interested in the sport of Muay Thai on a competitive level, just trying to lose pounds and get fit, or even just learning self-defense for those real world situations.

After being a member here for almost 2 years I have decided to update my review…read more I left because I feel like I have outgrown this gym. The coaches that I liked no longer work there so there was no need for me to be there anymore... I have found a new Muay Thai gym that I am very happy with, and that has also inspired me to update my review. My review for the coaches is specifically for the Adult Muay Thai program. Reasons for Stars: Front Desk: The front desk staff member is amazing. She will definitely make you smile no matter what. Prices: They are cheaper than most other gyms, especially if you start taking private classes. Coaches that are not mentioned below: They have coaches that are great, funny, and helpful and will give you a good workout. Members: The members that go there are pretty great and fun to talk to. No one is there to win a belt and they are very respectful fighters. I've been to other gyms where I have been terrified to spar people or partner with someone because I am worried that they will knock me out. No big egos here, except maybe some of the coaches. Reasons for Lost stars: Coaches: There are certain coaches there that have very bad attitudes. They are either in a bad mood and like to show it or just feel like insulting you for no reason. There is A LOT I can say about certain coaches, but I won't go on for sake of length. There are other coaches that are very talented in Muay Thai fighting, but as instructors, talk WAY too much and don't let you actually get a work out because they spend the whole time talking. Classes and class schedules: The advanced class is from 7-8:30 which is kinda late for someone that works really early in the morning. There are also a lot of beginners that jump in the advanced class that shouldn't be there. It happens a lot. I can't blame them though because the only other class in the evening is at 5:00 which is the beginner and its hard to get to. They also don't do enough sparring in my opinion. They said they were going to start sparring classes on Thursday nights but that didn't seem to happen. Cancellation: I got charged a 1 month cancelation fee instead of just having a membership for an extra 30 day once I gave notice. The owner said "The 30 day notice a.k.a. A one month cancellation fee is always scheduled for the day the account officially closes" and tried to argue that the cancelation fee and the 30 day notice are the same exact thing... In my history at every single gym I've ever been to, you give a 30 day notice, and you either roll over to another pay period but during that 30 days you have access to the gym. A 30 day notice and a cancellation fee are NOT the same. So expect a fee when you cancel, not just giving a notice...If you want the words exactly from their contract it says "If you have fulfilled the "initial period" of your membership contract, and your membership is currently month-to-month, only a 30 days notice applies as a membership cancellation (one month cancellation)." So take the BS statement with a grain of salt as well... If they would have told me flat out that I would have had a cancellation fee, and not try to be sneaky with their wording then I wouldn't have been as upset. Reasons I've outgrown: I don't think this gym does enough sparring. I also don't think there are enough women at the gym to spar with. The master coach is not in town a lot so its hard to get a fight if you are not one of the coaches. Personally, I think it's a good starter gym, but if you want to grow beyond that I am not really sure if its possible. But who knows. To each their own.

But after a few seconds later, I was like, "But what if I like it?" That tiny amount of curiosity pushed me to sign up while I was still hoping that I would not get in (LOL!!) While I was driving to get to the place, I was still nervous. Doubting myself heavily, I reluctantly dragged myself into the studio. AND THE REST IS HISTORY! Did I like it? No, I LOVED it! I had never thought kickboxing was this satisfying! Yeah, I used to work out at the gym having a personal trainer and all that but ever since I quit it, my middle-aged body had been rotting in my hell-like home office chair for my day job. I guess I was looking for a way to get out of the unhealthy lifestyle I had kept for years so today's session at Kickhouse became my wake-up call that I had waited for so many years. The instructors, Casey (hopefully I spelled it correctly) and Mike (I believe) were so engaging (you guys were awesome!!) And they weren't intimidating; they uplifted us mentally (not just physically.) Their contagious energy got us going and the 45-minute session flew by like the Japanese bullet train! I wish the session was a bit longer was the only complaint I could think of (well, I'm not really complaining!) I know I will be sore tomorrow. But it will be a joyful sore. A BIG "THANK YOU" to Yelp for organizing this wonderful event tonight!! Being part of this Yelp community is not all about food; it's about being physical as well! I'm totally sold for kickboxing; I'm HOOKED!!

So how did I come upon KickHouse? Well, we'll rewind back to this morning and afternoon…read more.. basically, it was a long, rough, and stressful work day. To give my mind a quick break, I checked my messages and received an invite to join tonight's Yelp Elite event. And what better way to relieve stress? Punching and kicking the heck out an oversized bag that won't fight back with a bunch of strangers. Duh. Tonight's instructors were Casey and Mike. Both were incredibly informative at demonstrating techniques as well as keeping an eye out on participants' forms. Their enthusiasm was contagious and they kept it fun throughout the entire event. There was never a dull moment. And despite having done leg day prior to attending, all of the energy in the room made it impossible to not want to continue. If you're looking for a place to frequent to release pent up stress/energy whilst gaining a new hobby or lifestyle, then I highly recommend trying out a session at KickHouse.
